Rising Monk V2c88

Volume 2 Chapter 88 Hear My Roar, It Will Burn The Earth To Ashes

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Rufna, having dropped her weapon, is mercilessly struck by the Windsong Blade.

The female assassin hurriedly conjures a barrier, deflecting the sword, but being hit once is no big deal.

She is repeatedly hammered with the magic sword, 2, 3 times.

 ”Guh…”

After about 5 hits, she feels the barrier crack under pressure.

The dark elf kneels, trembling as she lifts her arm in struggle.

 ”Hmph!”

 ”Ah, ug…!”

 There is no mercy.

Shattering the barrier and forcibly breaking her magic drains a huge portion of Rufna’s magic power.

As she stumbles, Kian drives a kick into her face. She crashes onto the cold stone floor. Before she can recover, he mounts her, pinning her down.

His hand closes around her throat—not to choke her, but to twist the collar of her attire, cutting off the blood flow to her head.

 ”……”

 Her last resistance.

A sharp thrust—her right arm flashes forward, aiming for his neck.

But his neck turns to mist, allowing physical attacks to pass through.

The knife that tried to slice his throat misses, causing Rufna to grimace.

 That ends the game.

When blood ceases to flow to the head, no human can maintain consciousness.

 ”────”

Even as Rufna’s body weakens, Kian doesn’t loosen his grip. He tightens the twist of her collar, ensuring no blood reaches her head. Her struggles grow sluggish—then stop entirely.

Only after nearly ten seconds, once he is certain she has fully succumbed, does he release her.

 The dark elf lies motionless.

 The fight is over.

Kian breathes heavily, rolling beside the woman.

 ”…What was that?”

’It was a technique to transform into vampire mist. The most representative skill and the foundation of ability enhancement. Rejoice, you have now taken your first step as a vampire.’

 ”────”

Kian binds her arms and legs with rope, heals her, and brings the Tengu to her mouth.

The Night Wraith enters her body through her slightly open mouth.

Her brown, ample body starts to convulse violently.

’Mist serves as the foundation for a vampire’s transformation ability. At first, it allows one to turn their fingernails into blades or grow wings on their back, but with practice, one can change into another person. It is also possible to become animals like cats or bats.’

”So, this means I can fly? That’s handy.”

Honestly, he’s starting to feel more and more inhuman.

This dark elf, Rufna, probably never imagined the assassination target would be a vampire-like human using bizarre techniques.

She must thought she could overpower him with pure swordsmanship and martial arts even if the surprise attack failed, but that was the error.

(Also, my perceptual ability and physical ability were incredible. The wound on my cheek has already closed.)

’That’s normal for a vampire. The ability to transform requires special training and strengthening through absorbing vampire factors, but if you master it, it may develop into a special ability unique to you as a vampire. This one thinks that it’s difficult at the moment because it requires time, materials, and perseverance.’

”Gaining the ability to become mist is enough. It doesn’t seem like I can completely pass through physical attacks…”

When he placed his hand on his neck, he felt his skin shallowly torn and blood seeping.

It seems he wasn’t able to evade the slash that he was supposed to have dodged by turning into mist earlier.

’The ability for Mist Form improves the more it’s used. Older vampires are better at becoming mist. They can also add unique visual effects or medicinal properties to the mist.’

 ”Visual effects and medicinal properties…”

’Indeed. For example, *visual effects* could change the mist to resemble the scattering shadow of a butterfly or make it look like flower petals dancing──having a stylish aspect. The medicinal properties involve enhancing the mist with various effects. Older vampires who have lived long and gained strength used this to spread diseases or, conversely, to heal. However, to gain medicinal properties, one needs to develop organs capable of creating medicines in their body.’

”Something like a poison gland? I don’t care much about the stylish aspect, but adding medicinal effects to the mist seems like a useful power.”

 Rufna’s body stopped trembling.

 Is the takeover calmed down?

For now, it seems like he can leave her alone safely.

(Alright. Now I’ll leave her to Tengu and head to rescue Natra)

Kian turned his back and quickly moved to the location directly above the room he was in.

Beyond the uneven ground that stopped his fall, the beautiful night view of the casino spread out as always.

Just as he was about to jump off the balcony, a girl wearing a Kitsune mask appeared beside Kian.

 ”Natra, are you alright?”

”No problems. However… I’m sorry, I let the Wolfmen’s man escape. Just as I broke his claws, he turned into mist and slipped out the window.”

 ”Into mist?”

He furrowed his brow at the familiar’s words.

Natra nodded with a serious expression.

”Yes. That man, something about him felt off. He was moving, but there was a stench of death about him.”

”…….Does it smell the same as Owl’s subordinates?”

”Yes, a stench of death is still a stench of death. However, I can’t believe that thing is the same as Lord Owl’s subordinates. I felt his will and techniques in his movements. He fought like a warrior who has survived many death-defying battles.”

”That mercenary was likely someone Shajar specially hired for this incident, right? I’m not familiar with recent mercenary affairs, but are there many who can turn into mist?”

 Natra shook her head.

 ”In my experience…”

”I see. Well, the outcome is quite satisfactory. I apologize for having you fight with a crude longsword.”

”No, a warrior monk doesn’t choose their weapons. I need to get used to these clothes soon.”

Saying that, she looked down at the fluttering sleeves of her white kimono.

”I’ll place an additional order with the kimono shop to tie the sleeves, like, at the shoulder. Also, I’ll cover the bottoms of those red leg wraps with tabi. If I tuck the leg wrap’s ends into the tabi, the fabric will flutter and won’t get in the way.”

”If you can buy them, please do. I’d hate to be in a tight spot when fighting a strong enemy because the clothes get in the way.”

Natra paused for a moment and then looked over at the dark elf female assassin lying face up over there.

”You managed to take down Rufna, huh?”

”In pure martial arts and as a warrior monk, I was at a disadvantage. I was lucky.”

”She is a powerful apostle. If your ability as a warrior monk surpassed hers, you wouldn’t have been exiled in the first place.”

”If that were the case, I’d have been caught in a blood feud with my brother and assassinated by Jibril instead. In any case, I need to focus. When I return, I’ll train hard while raising my Adventurer Rank.”

”…Will the Tengu be able to successfully eat Rufna?”

Natra walked towards Rufna, murmuring with concern.

Staring at the unmoving body of the dark elf, Kian responded with a question.

 ”What do you mean?”

”The Tengu… probably had this trait even in life, but it has a bit of a dazed aspect. To put it bluntly, it’s foolish.”

 ”────”

It was a harsh evaluation, but indeed, although they were large and looked strong, they had mostly functioned as a meat wall in battles.

In daily life, they often didn’t listen to Kian and seemed to stare blankly in another direction.

It was not uncommon for them to irritate Christy’s gargoyles and golems, suffering severe backlash and dropping the various tools they had stored inside.

”Rufna is a strong-willed woman. If she scolds them, the Tengu might be startled and run away…”

Just as Natra finished speaking, the body of the dark elf suddenly trembled, and from her mouth, the Tengu’s black shadow was forcefully spewed out.

With a thud and splat, the Tengu rolled in front of the flowerbed, spilling all of Kian’s belongings it had tucked away inside.

Now lighter, they crawled over to Kian’s feet, almost seeking help.

”──Haah! A mere wraith thinks it can take over my body? No way, weakling! …Guh! I’m bound!? Damn it, let me go, hey! Let me go!”

Struggling vigorously against the binds on her limbs, Rufna bared her teeth and threatened Kian.

 ”Tengu, you…”

Natra frowned and picked up the Tengu.

They seemed to have reached their limit, hiding small within their own face.

They was completely outmatched by Rufna──.

Kian let out a small sigh and approached the thrashing dark elf to harvest consciousness once more.

The windbreak surrounding Châtillon’s fortress gradually deepened, transforming from artificial to a naturally thriving forest.

Although it wasn’t untouched since pigs were grazed during winter, swinging a sword was still difficult compared to the flat terrain.
