Volume 2 Chapter 93 The Circumstances Of The Danofen Family I

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Randy? …hmm?”

”While I was working, I met a handsome Wolfmen mercenary. He had a scar on his face. Could he be one of Serena’s allies?”

”Unfortunately, that alone doesn’t help. There’s no one named Randy among the members of ‘Storm Herd’, and even if it’s a fake name, a description like ‘handsome with a scar’ isn’t enough to identify someone. It seems that everyone thinks all Wolfmen are generally handsome.”

 (Well, that makes sense.)

’If he’s a mercenary, he doesn’t have to reveal his real name. He might have told Lord Shajar his real name when signing the contract.’

 ”Sorry for asking something strange.”

”No, it’s okay. ──But about the payment you provided…”

”Was there something wrong with the armor I gave as payment?”

 ”No way.”

 Serena frowned and continued.

”That armor was a bit too expensive. How many gold coins did you spend?”

”I had my familiar handle the payment, so I don’t know. I also stopped keeping a ledger since the money flow got hectic. It’s essential to keep track of finances if you want to save.”

”Adding the 3 gold coins for the payment, it’s clear you’ve paid too much. I was just doing regular security duty with everyone that day.”

”A contract is a contract. Don’t worry about it. You wouldn’t want to wear armor that stinks from the Vengeful Corpse forever. The leather belt part would deteriorate. Plus, considering you’ll need to engrave the weapon with magic language, you’ll end up spending a lot of gold just on buying and maintaining them. There’s never too much gold.”

”I’m more worried about you. If you’re being so generous, is Kian’s wallet okay?”

”It’s fine, so don’t worry about it.”

 ”I hope so…”

”Once we return to East End, will you team up again for adventurer quests?”

When Kian asked that, Serena nodded immediately.

”Of course. I was planning to ask you.”

”I plan to take on a ton of high-difficulty Rank 6 quests, but──”

”No problem. I’ve been studying magic at Ms. Christy’s house, so I’ll handle the long-range attacks our party lacks. I think Kian will mainly take the vanguard.”

”The challenging Rank 6 quests usually involve dealing with the Bloodsucking Kind or swarms of Spoon Wings. Unlike the Rank 7 quests, we can’t avoid combat, so we’ll need to prepare for extermination quests.”

Serena’s blue eyes narrow at the mention of the Bloodsucking Kind.

She fought against Shield Cain as the boss during the Lower-rank adventurer promotion exam.

It seems they managed to defeat the boss, but the party members suffered severe damage, reaching incapacitation.

Responsible Serena has been regretting that incident ever since.

”Since I learned magic, my options in battle have expanded. Don’t worry, I’m ready.”

”Let’s discuss the details of the quests we’ll take once we return to East End tomorrow. Does that sound good?”

”No problem. I’ll follow the leader’s wishes.”

”Okay. I’m going to the palace now to greet Her Excellency and Christy. After that, I plan to greet the others who helped us.”

”I’ll wait here for Ms. Christy to come home. If she hasn’t returned by this evening, I’ll make a lunch box and visit the palace. I really want to bring some clothes too, but I can’t just open her closet without permission.”

”Shall we meet somewhere and head back together?”

”Then let’s meet at the checkpoint by the fortress. We’ll be walking the town streets at night; is that okay with you, Kian?”

 ”I’m fine with that.”

In fact, he felt that nighttime even enhanced his abilities.

Monsters and beasts would be more numerous, but with Rufna in hand, his magic power had increased even further.

His combat endurance had improved as well, so a bit of a forced march would be just a warm-up.

”Once we arrive at East End, let’s take a break for a while. It seems like we’ll check out the Guild around evening, but high-difficulty Quests always seem to be available, so it doesn’t really matter.”

”If you’re feeling exhausted, should we postpone it until the day after tomorrow?”

”Unless something irregular happens, I don’t think we’ll tire ourselves too much on the way to East End. Tomorrow, we’ll just evaluate the Quests and get what we need, right?”

”If we head to the Guild in the evening, it’ll probably be dark by then.”

”Then I don’t think there will be a problem with our stamina.”

”I see. Well, after we get to East End, we can adjust as needed.”

”Yeah. I’ll start packing my things. ──We couldn’t find ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User’ for the Quest at the fortress, but it was a very meaningful and interesting time. Thanks for inviting me, Kian.”

”Thank you for responding to my request for cooperation. I was able to deal with the enemy attack during the rehearsal thanks to you. I’m glad to have hired you.”

 Serena shook hands.

They parted ways for the time being.

After that, they returned from Christy’s place and reunited with the waiting guard, finally heading toward the palace.

In front of the palace, young guards from Maribel’s entourage and knights from Owl’s subordinates were on duty on the white stairs.

Owl’s subordinates mostly stood in the shady areas, while the young guards protected the sunny, hot spots.

After explaining the situation to the young guards, they quickly granted entrance permission.

It seemed that Owl, who was in charge of the security inside, had anticipated Kian’s visit.

Ascending the stairs and entering the entrance of the southern wing where Maribel was working, the usual Owl, donned in armor complete with feathers, was waiting.

 ”Kian!”

 ”Hello, Mr. Owl.”

”Yes, hello. I’m sorry for the chaos the other day. It’s just that… ah, I’ve been quite busy.”

 ”Was something going on?”

 ”Well, yeah… various things.”

Owl furrowed his brow and spoke evasively.

It seems something definitely happened after the meeting, but Kian, merely an adventurer, probably can’t be told about it.

With the ‘Death Sword User’ incident now cleared, Kian is now completely an outsider.

”Could it be that the missing Lord Guillaume has been found?”

”No, that’s not it. He won’t be coming back. Even if he did return, he wouldn’t have a place since he pledged loyalty to McCutchen.”

 ”I see.”

”By the way, what brings you here today?”

Owl opened his narrow eyes and looked down intently at Kian.

He thought Owl might know the purpose of his visit since it seemed he was aware of his arrival, but it didn’t seem like Liam and the others had relayed their conversation at the drawbridge.

”My duty is over, so I thought I’d leave Izerland fortress… I came to say goodbye. Especially to Ms. Christy, who provided me with a room, for which I must express my gratitude. Mr. Owl, you’ve also been very helpful these past few days. Thank you very much. I considered bringing some sweets, but since I just received 20 gold coins recently, I think I’ll repay with a ‘promise’ instead.”

 ”A promise?”

”Yes. I am an adventurer. I specialize in resolving incidents involving monsters and acquiring rare materials. When you need my strength, please request a personal job at the nearest adventurer Guild. I’ll take it on for a low price. Of course, I won’t cut corners on the Quest results.”

”I see… so you’re giving me a reservation discount voucher for job requests? Indefinitely? Interesting, interesting.”

”That’s about all I can repay to Mr. Owl for now.”

”No. I will certainly accept that ‘promise.’ If anything arises, I shall request a Quest from Kian. It’s great to have a capable adventurer on acquaintance. Will it be in East End from now on?”

”Yes, until I clear the intermediate-rank adventurer exam, I plan to establish my base in East End for the time being.”

”If it’s East End, then it’s close to the fortress. I must tackle various tasks as Her Excellency’s right hand from now on. I won’t be able to visit casually anymore, but I look forward to your continued support.”

”The pleasure is mine. There may be times when I rely on your help again. I hope you’ll assist me then.”

”Ahaha, the only time Kian will need my help is when he becomes an enemy of Her Excellency Maribel. I believe that day will never come. ──Please, come inside. Christina is in Her Excellency’s office. If Her Excellency is leaving the fortress, be sure to say goodbye.”

”I had intended to do so if possible. Thank you.”

 ”No, no. Well then.”

They exchanged bows and passed by the strange knight.

The strong scent of Azrael still lingered around him.

Perhaps he was intensifying the fragrance to mask the smell of blood emanating from his own body.

In a situation where he couldn’t say he had completely won the political struggle, there were surely many figures he had to eliminate as Maribel’s blade.

After parting with Owl and walking down the modest hallway, ‘glasses’ muttered softly.

’Unlike stagnant me, the times change, and people undergo their transformations…’
