”That’s scary. Ms. Aliona is a wolf too, huh?”

When Kian said that, Aliona chuckled softly.

After laughing for a while, her expression turned serious as she gazed at Kian’s right hand.

On his right hand was a thorn ring that had lost its magic power.

”You’ve done something dangerous, haven’t you?”

”Thanks to you and Ms. Karthana, I managed to survive.”

”What on earth did you do? I never thought you’d face such a life-threatening situation.”

 ”It’s a long story, but it was a fight I couldn’t avoid.”

He briefly shared how he was targeted at the fortress.

When he mentioned that he had fought the apostle of Azrael in East End before, Aliona narrowed her eyes slightly.

”Is she the little lady with the Kitsune mask? The one who killed my cute Kian?”

”She’s someone else. Right now, she’s pledged her loyalty to me. Natra, stand down.”

He called out to his familiar in spirit form.

Both Natra and Rufna reacted to the malicious magic power radiating from Aliona along with her anger.

They seemed to feel a primal fear.

However, it seemed Aliona had no intention of maintaining her intimidation unnecessarily.

Once Natra and Rufna sensed that Kian was no longer a target, she relaxed her magic power slowly.

”I understand it’s your job, but please think carefully before acting. There was also a way to temporarily retreat with Ms. Serena, right?”

”But in that case, I would have put Serena’s life in danger. There’s no way I could have protected the captured Insect Master, either.”

”Even so, if Kian dies, nothing matters! …I’m sorry for being so pushy. But if you die next time, we won’t have another chance, so I’m really angry.”

”No, I understand how you feel. I’m sorry.”

”Please don’t push yourself too hard.”

 ”Yeah.”

”Still, it’s surprising that Azrael is making a move. I’ve often heard Nene complain that ‘the cleric from that country is spreading their teachings in a guerrilla fashion across the western nations.’”

Aliona picked up a basket of herbs and returned.

She gazed intently towards the east.

”Times change, don’t they? I always thought the balance between the West and East would eventually crumble.”

”I apologize for intruding while you’re busy.”

”No, I’m just glad to see you again. What time is the dinner party tonight?”

”I plan to take about 6 hours of sleep, and then discuss upcoming Quests with Serena at the Adventurers’ Guild. So, dinner will probably be around 8.”

”Ms. Serena might join us for dinner then.”

”I’m not sure, but that could happen. Sorry, I plan to set up a private meeting for the two of us later. I just got back today and I’m not prepared.”

”That’s fine. Just a little attention from you will be enough. More importantly, please be careful. It’s not just Azrael; there were many weird people at the fortress, right?”

”Weird… well, yes. There were many different people.”

”Try to avoid getting involved. It’s no advantage for commoners to entangle themselves in the power struggles of the elite.”

 ”Yes, I understand that.”

 Aliona suddenly changed her expression.

”Well then, let’s save our long talks for tonight. I should get going for my duties now. I’m looking forward to the dinner.”

”Ah, wait a moment. Here’s some wine and sweets. Please enjoy them together.”

”…You really received a lot of money, didn’t you?”

 ”Hahaha…”

”Kian is free to take on Quests, but if there are any suspicious contracts or hard-to-judge profit schemes, feel free to come to me for advice. Also, be very cautious with requests from the castle. Especially don’t take what that little lady Natasha and the chubby kid McCutchen say at face value. Oh, Waterman is serious and good-hearted, so it’s okay to trust him to some extent.”

”Thank you. I have more to say, but I’ll save the rest for dinner. Sorry for interrupting your busy day.”

”No. ──Ah, Nene is calling me. I really have to go now. Thanks for the souvenir! See you then!”

 ”Yes.”

Leaving the herb garden with the sister.

After seeing the kind blonde elf trot off to the back of the monastery, Kian turned around.

After taking a short nap, he went to the adventurers’ Guild to grab a job, as promised to Serena.

The adventurers’ Guild, bustling with people reporting quests in the evening for the first time in over ten days, was crowded.

Compared to the Izerland fortress Guild, it was smaller, but still packed with people.

Kian browsed through several quests aimed at Rank 6 adventurers with Serena.

He accepted a monster subjugation request that seemed likely to earn the most Guild contribution points.

By the way, while Kian was sleeping, Natra and Rufna had already finished registering him as an adventurer.

The receptionist in charge was Miruru, with pink twin tails.

According to Natra, “She seemed the least sharp and was perfect for hiding her identity.”

 Kian agreed with this reasoning.

Since there was no place to sit at the adventurers’ Guild, they decided to move to ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn’.

’The Boar’s Trot Inn’ had a table reserved by Esther, allowing all 4 of them to sit together.

Once seated, Kian ordered drinks and food from Esther, who had come over.

Meanwhile, Serena spread out the request poster she had gotten from the Guild on the table.

Rufna and Natra simultaneously took out notepads, copying the content down.

”I think we should tackle this request first. It’s for a village north of East End by the mountains. The Guild recognized the tracks as belonging to an aged Shield Cain.”

Serena began, tapping the request. Then, Kian glanced over.

”Hmm? Well, that seems fine. But seriously, the reward is pretty pathetic…It’s only 5 silver coins for taking down a Shield Cain. Just the preparation and trip to the village will put us in the red.”

”Yeah.” Serena added, “That’s probably why no intermediate rank adventurers took it. A Shield Cain is a tough opponent. Even an intermediate rank party might end up with injuries.”

”The reward money is the amount that the Guild deducts from funds raised by the village. In a poor village by the mountains, a low amount is inevitable. But the important part is the Guild contribution points. Since the reward is low, the contribution points are set higher.”

Kian rested his chin on his hand, considering.

”While Master was asleep,” Rufna continued, flipping through her notes, “I looked into the local prices to some extent, but… um, here it is. The claws and shell of Shield Cain are said to be ten silver coins per kilogram. If they’re in good condition, they might even give a little bonus. However, due to an oversupply, depending on where you sell them, you might get a low price.”

 Kian looked around at everyone.

”I think the reward money depends on the selling price of the materials. There are parts that must be paid to the Guild according to our agreement when it comes to materials. If the monster we’re hunting is really Shield Cain, we should try to avoid damaging the materials as much as possible when we kill it.”

”Right,” Natra nodded. “If we turn it into chopped-up meat, nobody will buy it.”

”Milady, were you listening? You can’t use the Secret Technique, okay?”

”Are you looking down on me? Even as a joke, that’s unpleasant.”

”Looks like jokes don’t work with you…”

”What we need is fresh meat to lure out Shield Cain. We need something fresh, with the blood still in it. Should we procure it locally?”

”That would be better than bringing frozen meat. If we can’t find good prey, we can at worst ask the village head for a sheep or a pig. They must be aware they’re offering quests at a bargain price. If we negotiate, they should agree to give away one livestock.”

As they discussed the Quest, Aliona, dressed in a green dress, came over.

Her arrival was earlier than expected.

Kian had intended to have Natra and Rufna transform into spirit forms before she arrived, but that plan was perfectly shattered.

”You don’t need to worry. I’ll be listening from the side.”

 ”No, but…”

”I want to hear a lot from you. I can’t get theories on ‘Thorn Magician’ magic anywhere else.”

Aliona smiled in confusion as Rufna closed the distance in a familiar manner.

 ”My magic is all outdated.”

”That’s what I want to hear. So, ten years ago, is it true you made it rain in the desert near the border with Azrael?”

”Ten years ago… Ah, now that you mention it, that did happen. It brings back memories.”

”How did you do it? There weren’t any rain clouds nearby, right? How did you gather the moisture?”

”It was simple. I evaporated the sea in Châtillon and just brought it over like this, whoosh!”

 ”Huh…”

”…Did the lord not get angry?”

”No, not at all. It’s strange, isn’t it? Oh, but when I evaporated about half the port, a big red lizard flew by. I think it was a dragon or something──”

Just as Aliona said this with a smile, the entrance of ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn’ suddenly became noisy.

Kian glanced over and saw the guild leader, Friedrich, with a skeletal appearance, entering the tavern with a few subordinates.

 ”Ah, welcome!”

”No, that’s not it. I’m not here to drink. ──Kian! Is the adventurer Kian here!?”

Friedrich passed by Esther and looked around the hall.

”An urgent quest has come in! Is Rank 8 adventurer Kian here!?”
