Kian bent over and met the golden-haired little princess’s gaze.
”You are the future Queen of this Margrave Izerland territory. There is no room for requests. It is either a trade or an order, pick one.”
”But…, I… I have nothing left to give you.”
”There is a contract and a promise. As the King of this land, if you proudly make a contract with me, I will temporarily become your Knight and fight for you. If you meet my requests, that is.”
”What does Kian want?”
”Let me see…….a house. Yes, a house. I want a base to operate from as an adventurer. I would like permission to build a house somewhere in Izerland.”
”────What? Eh?”
”…Is that all?”
Maribel looked at Kian with eyes that couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
Kian gave a small smile and nodded.
”Yes, but, becoming Your Excellency’s Knight is only for the duration of this war. When it ends, I’m free. I’ll enjoy my adventurer life as I please.”
”Are you serious, you’re going to fight to the death for that? You’re an idiot, aren’t you?”
”You’re so harsh, Christy…”
”Kian, are you really going to fight for us just for that?”
”That’s an understatement. Having my own home has been my lifelong dream.”
”You idiot. …really, idiot. …idiot”
”────────”
Christy’s sobbing voice.
Maribel shed silent tears.
Natra, who had been making Liam and the others retreat to the moat, appeared from the door, but stopped in her tracks, sensing the atmosphere.
Rufna shrugs.
”Hehehe, My Master is quite the idiot. A hopeless fool.”
”This time only, special circumstances. Let me off the hook.”
”I guess. Well…but”
Rufna approached Kian and closed one eye.
”You’re a good guy, you know. I’m seriously falling for you.”
”You weren’t already?”
”No, my heart hadn’t fallen yet.”
”Ah, right…”
”Is the story over?”
”…””────, Owl”
Thick fog gathered in the room, shaping into the form of Owl’s Knight.
He leisurely walked over to Kian.
”Eavesdropping is such a bad habit.”
Natra said this as she approached Kian’s side.
Owl chuckled softly, not seeming to mind.
”I’m glad it seems we can confirm Kian will fight with us. If you were going to betray Her Excellency, I would have had to defeat you first.”
”…I want to be friends with Mr. Owl.”
”Mnph♡ Ah, I think of you as my best friend too.”
Owl widened his lips and pulled out a glass bottle from his pocket.
Just an ordinary bottle.
He extended his left hand and, with a swift motion, ran his right claw across it, cutting the skin open.
The bottle filled with a thick, black sludge-like blood, droplet by droplet.
”This is vampire factor. If you ingest this, your physical abilities should improve even more. Please take it if you’re going to fight Oswald. A gift from your comrade.”
”────”
”You didn’t lace it with poison, did you?”
”I mean, giving your own blood to a comrade is just plain creepy…”
Kian silently called out to the magic tool in his pocket.
(‘Glasses’, Is it safe to ingest that blood?)
’No problem. In fact, ingesting high-concentration, high-quality vampire factor is much better than gradually absorbing the Bloodsucking Kind.’)
(Got it)
”Thank you, Mr. Owl.”
”No need to thank me♪”
As Kian took the glass bottle, Christy and Maribel, who had been watching from behind, scowled.
”Kian, Owl is a monster. Drinking his blood… it feels dangerous.”
”As Christy says. …Are you sure? I, I don’t want to see Kian become like Owl──lose his humanity.”
”He’ll be fine, Princess.”
Owl whispered gently, as if soothing a child.
”This blood will greatly strengthen Kian. As for side effects… Oswald’s purification power will have a special attack bonus. But even with a special attack, if you get your head chopped off, you’re still going to die anyway”
”I see…”
Maribel nodded but continued to furrow her brow.
Kian drew the long sword from the Night Wraith in his embrace and offered it to Maribel.
”Kian?”
”With this, will you appoint me as a Knight? Surely, it would be unseemly for Your Excellency to plead, ‘Please help me.’ After all, the reason I have rushed here is to protect your dignity.”
”…….Today, I have seen a god. Kian, you are a messenger of the divine, overflowing with righteousness and justice. More heroic than any warrior spoken of in legend. No matter what happens, I will never forget the name Kian Vahid for as long as I live.”
Saying this, Maribel took out a handkerchief and wiped her eyes roughly.
When she looked up, her eyebrows were tightly furrowed.
The long sword was held in her small hands.
As Kian knelt, a high-pitched voice, almost a whisper, rang out from above him.
”Do not fear, face your enemies.
God loves courage and justice.
Help the weak.
Never abandon your comrades.
Even if it leads to your own death.
Protect the Queen of Izerland.
Continue to be a guardian of law and conscience.
Fulfill your own ‘justice’.
Swear to me.”
”I swear.”
”────!”
A dry thud echoed.
