Volume 2 Chapter 104 Dawn Of Izerland II

The crimson cursed sword beam sliced through half of the west wing like a sheet of paper, then, not content, it slammed into the cliff face behind it and the Owl’s barrier beyond.

The dark night’s barrier cracked under the crimson flash.

Regeneration began from the cracks, but the destruction seemed to be winning.

 The beam eventually vanished.

Kian was already kicking off the roof.

White smoke rose from the ruins of the collapsed west wing.

In the center of it all, Oswald’s distinctive presence still lingered.

But it was weaker than ever.

He didn’t think it was likely, but he approached cautiously, wary of a feigned death.

 ”Gah… cough…”

 ”────”

Sure enough, Oswald was sprawled in the center of the blast crater, a bloody, mangled mess.

The Holy Sword of the Sun lay nearby.

Surprisingly, the holy sword wasn’t even scratched.

 ”Hah… hah hah… you’re good…, Kian…. Kukuku…”

 ”Sir Oswald”

 ”You win.”

Oswald’s arms and legs were bent at unnatural angles.

 He was in critical condition.

Judging by the blood coming from his mouth, his internal organs might be punctured by bone fragments.

”Ku, fu… When was the last time I lost to someone? …No, now that I think about it, it’s still frustrating…”

 ”……”

”A fool who overestimates his own strength…. I see, …I see.”

 Gurgle──.

The youth of the sun coughed up a clot of blood.

He raised his chin and looked up at Kian.

 ”Now, kill me.”

* * *

In the scorched wasteland that was once the west wing.

The crimson cursed sword vanished from Kian’s hand in a puff of blood-like mist.

In its place, he felt the familiar presence of his small ‘glasses’ returning to his chest pocket.

Oswald was currently creating a pool of blood and seemed to be weakening with each passing moment.

This was probably also due to the shadow of the Owl’s barrier.

Unless one was a creature of the same type as him, their life force would be gradually sapped away within this barrier.

 ”Sir Kian!”

 ”…Master”

Natra and a battered Rufna caught up from behind.

Rufna was leaning on Natra’s shoulder.

It seemed she was facing a life-threatening situation after being struck by Oswald’s holy sword.

”Rufna, shift to spirit form and get inside my coat.”

 ”…I’m sorry.”

The dark elf’s figure faded away like mist.

Natra, feeling lighter, walked unsteadily over to Kian.

”I can’t believe we actually took him down.”

”Thanks to Oswald’s overwhelming firepower, we managed to pull through. If it had been a straightforward sword fight, I would have eventually lost.”

However, Oswald couldn’t afford to take his time, knowing Aisha and the others were left behind.

If he hadn’t known about that cursed blade, it wouldn’t have been surprising for him to think he could win by relying on the holy sword’s brute strength.

He probably never imagined that the holy sword he trusted completely would be defeated.

”…Why not cut off my head?”

Kian and Natra looked down at the softly murmured voice.

Oswald, on the brink of death, grimaced in agony.

 ”Hurry, kill me.”

”That’s not my decision to make.”

”Aren’t you going to kill me? …You fool, you’ll regret this.”

”There’s also the precedent of ‘Thorn Magician (Ms. Aliona).’ …It’s all up to her.”

As Kian said this, he turned to see Maribel, supported by Christy, hurrying over as fast as she could.

Her white dress was torn up to her knees.

She must have ripped it herself to move more easily.

 ”Kian!” “Kian!”

Maribel and Christy shouted in unison.

After confirming the figures of Kian and Natra standing in the wasteland, they spotted Oswald, bloodied and lying there like a rag, and their smiles vanished.

 ”Oswald…”

”No way, did you really take him down…?”

”Your Excellency, he is still alive. ──Shall we behead him?”

 Kian asked calmly.

He felt no particular emotion about it.

He thought if Maribel wanted to kill him, it was fine by him.

He believes that if he’s to be kept alive, it requires appropriate measures.

Christy’s dark eyes were directed at Maribel.

The young blonde princess shook her head without hesitation.

 ──To the side.

 ”No, I won’t kill him.”

 ”That’s ridiculous… I don’t have to obey you, Maribel.”

Oswald spat out from within the pool of blood.

He looked up at his sovereign with golden eyes.

”Don’t you realize that keeping a traitor like me alive will only bring chaos to the kingdom? That’s why no one will follow you.”

”Oswald, you’re the lord ruling over the Northern grain district. You’re also the leader of an army of over a thousand. The townsfolk see you as the hero who saved McCutchen from the fortress. There are better ways to approach this than to kill you here.”

”No way, killing is the only option.”

Maribel shook her head and continued.

”I’ll put silver handcuffs on you to suppress your magic power. Then, you’ll need to sign 2 hundred magic contracts that surpass ‘Thorn Magician.’ ──After that, you’ll be imprisoned in the castle’s dungeon, working with the other inmates.”

 ”────”

Oswald had nothing more to say.

He seemed to be battling the unbearable, excruciating pain that struck him with every breath.

 Maribel continued without hesitation.

”Your existence will serve as a valuable deterrent against Azrael. It could also be a trump card against Renaud. For me, it’s worth keeping you alive rather than killing you. Kian, I’m truly sorry for what you went through to take down Oswald.”

”No, it’s the future chosen by Your Excellency. Whatever it may be, I respect it.”

 ”Yes, thank you──”

 ”That won’t do, Maribel.”

 A sudden voice echoed.

Before he could think, Kian thrust his longsword toward Oswald’s neck.

With a dull sound, a vampire with a purplish-red body appeared.
