Chapter 556 Eagle Eye
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
(Hiroya’s POV)
After the battle, we always check our equipment, but this time is a little different.
”We need to carefully check everyone’s equipment, especially Hiroya, Asuka, Simona, Dorothy, and Martina, who fought in the vanguard.”
Indeed, we don’t want to stay long in this teleportation array-type floor boss area.
Liz decided we should wait for Martina to unlock the loot box and then proceed to the next floor──the 20th floor.
”Since we took the salamander’s flames head-on, Aluda and Meluda should check us properly.”
”Especially Hiro, he was right in the path of the flames.”
Aluda and Meluda insisted, and Liz agreed.

”Oh… it’s a bow.”
After the salamander’s body disappeared, the usual ‘loot box’ appeared.
Martina easily unlocked it, checked the contents, and beckoned to Liz.
”Seriously!? I hope I can use it!”
Liz ran over and looked over Martina’s shoulder, so we went to take a look too.
”It has a flashy design, doesn’t it?”
”Yeah. But it seems like it’s a powerful weapon.”
Intrigued by their conversation, we peered into the box…
Inside the box, a black bow lay on a satin cloth.
It’s about the same size as Liz’s composite bow.
As Liz said, it certainly has intricate patterns carved on it.
And next to it is an empty black quiver.
”Black… huh.”
”Usually in games, black items are ‘cursed items’.”
Kazumi reacted to my mutterings.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
”I feel magical power, but I don’t feel any curse.”
Everyone sighed in relief at Rena’s words, who was peering over my shoulder.
”Well, we can’t exactly take our time here… Let’s get this thing out of here for now!”
”Right, Aluda, you take that side.”
Aluda and Meluda carried the box between them.
”Alright, let’s get out of this room first.”
”Yeah. I’ll go ahead and check the door to the next floor.”
Martina ran through the hall and into the corridor that led to the back.
* * *
”Now… the other side of this door is the 20th floor…”
”I checked it, and there are no traps or locks. It’s the same as the usual ‘door to the next floor’.”
When we reached the door at the end of the long corridor, Martina had already finished examining it.
”We’ll open it later. First, let’s check our equipment, right?”
Simona lowered the greatsword from her back and plopped down on the spot.
”That’s right. There might be some malfunctions we don’t know about.”
Asuka also took off the Kansenmaru from her back and sat down next to Simona.
”Meluda, can you appraise this bow? Aluda will take care of the equipment check.”
”Okay! Can RenRen help too? Like what kind of magic is imbued in it?”
Aluda and Meluda put down the box of loot they had brought.
”Well, shall we check Hiro’s equipment first?”
As Aluda said that, I returned to Hiroya’s form, handed him the Yamikirimaru from his waist, and then took off the parts of his armor.

(Meluda’s POV)
While Aluda was checking everyone’s equipment, Meluda took out a bow from the box and appraised it.
(The material is… the bones of some kind of monster? Even Meluda can feel the magical power from this…)
”The bones of this material seem to be from a monster. Also, metal and wood are used…”
”Yeah. It’s a bow made of composite materials. It’s made in a similar way to the one Liz uses.”
RenRen and I carefully examine the bow.
The metal is adamantite steel.
It’s a rare metal that can store more magical power than mithril silver.
It has great resilience and strength.
Depending on how it’s processed, it certainly seems like the perfect material for a bow.
”This… this is probably some kind of monster’s eye,”
RenRen points to something that looks like an eyeball, just above the grip of the bow, in a position that looks at the target.
”What a creepy design… but it’s definitely old.”
”Yeah. Rena, I think this bow is an ‘artifact from the ancient civilization era.’ We won’t know what kind of magic is bestowed on it unless we try it out.”
For now, it’s a shared understanding between Meluda and RenRen that ‘there is no curse on it.’
The quiver is also pitch black, but it has a simple design.
I examined it in my hands, but I could only tell that it was made of some kind of leather.
”Meluda… that…”
RenRen stares at the empty quiver with a surprised expression.
”What’s wrong? ──Wait… huh!?”
Meluda was also shocked to see the quiver.
After all, inside the quiver that was empty… were dozens of black arrows.
”It’s definitely an ‘artifact from the ancient civilization era.’ ──Liz! You can use it without any problem!”
RenRen turned around and called out to Liz-Liz.
”Are you serious?!”
Perhaps she had finished inspecting her armor; Liz-Liz hurried over after just putting on the final piece of leg armor.
* * *
To sum it up… Liz-Liz could not draw that pitch-black bow.
”It’s not that it’s stiff or anything… I just can’t seem to draw it.”
Liz-Liz droops her shoulders in disappointment.
”Do not be discouraged, Liz. It is likely that your strength is just not suited for that bow yet.”
Ms. Lilith, who had materialized without us noticing, took the bow from Liz-Liz.
”I still need to improve my skills… huh…”
”It means you’ll be able to draw it eventually. I believe it won’t be too far off.”
Ms. Lilith said in a comforting tone, examining the bow carefully.
”Oh, how nostalgic… the script──’the Eagle Eye,’ huh?”
Ms. Lilith found the inscription carved into the bow and read the characters aloud.
Looking closer, it was as intricate as the characters carved into GieGie’s “Kaenmaru (blazing flame).”
”Oh, Japanese again.”
Hiro and Kazumi were also peering at the inscription on the bow.
”Lilith can read it… well, of course. You’ve been appropriating Japanese culture and incorporating it into this world.”
”Don’t speak ill of me, Kazumi… I was simply considering practicality and efficiency…”
Ms. Lilith seemed flustered.
Japan…was that the name of the world Hiro and Kazumi had lived in in their past lives?
”Well, anyway… Liz would be better off having this. She’ll be able to use it right away. My guarantee.”
Ms. Lilith handed the bow to Liz-Liz, who seemed a little downcast.
”Lilith…thank you.── Regardless, I need to be able to use ‘mind’s eye’ if I want to reach the top.”
Liz-Liz, having received the bow, muttered to herself as if to convince herself, then *slap!*
slapped both her cheeks.
”Alright! ──Aluda! Are you finished with the inspection?”
”Just a bit more! The armor uses a lot of Grandpa’s alloy, so I was worried about the heat…”
Right.
Grandpa’s alloy is made by refining “Flame Stone,” which is weak to heat…
”Sorry, Aluda, Meluda will help too!”
”Thank you. …But, it’s Grandpa’s alloy after all. It seems to have handled the heat just fine.”
That’s right.
As expected of Grandpa.
* * *
Everyone’s equipment inspection was complete.
Hiro’s right arm armor had melted slightly, but it was just a minor level that wouldn’t affect its protective power.
Everything else was fine.
AsuAsu’s chainmail, which was made entirely from Grandpa’s alloy, had been the most worrying, but it was completely unharmed.
”Alright, then it’s time for the two0th floor. Be on guard not only for monster presence, but also for the ceiling, floor, and walls of the corridor. Especially anything that looks
That’s what Lady Milia said.
’The Adamantite steel marked the deepest part of the labyrinth.’
Then Marti opened the door, and Meluda stepped onto the 20th floor.
