Rising Monk V3c13-2

Volume 3 Chapter 13 The Message

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Stop. Please. If you fall, a lot of people—including me—will be in trouble.”

”It’s fine, just one more time, Guildmaster. If we send Mr. Kian, I swear I’ll take a nap this time.”

”No. Even so, I can’t push you any further. If you really want to help, could you call Vestacia? She can open the gate, right?”

 ”Ah… um… she…”

”What? I know her personality, but surely she’d lend a hand if I explain the situation?”

 ”No, Guildmaster.”

Lyritisse looked away, reluctant to speak.

Come to think of it, she had joined up with Vestacia and the others after returning last night with Rean.

After that… Rean went on a *date* with Vestacia in the brothel district.

She should naturally know the situation between them.

As expected, Lyritisse continued, looking troubled.

”Well… yesterday, Ms. Vestacia invited Sir Rean. So… they’re probably still in bed. It’s a little… difficult to wake them up.”

 ”Hmm… I see.”

Friedrich—and the staff under him—couldn’t call an emergency meeting without considering the circumstances of the *Lion’s Companion*.

After wandering his hollow, skeletal eyes into the void, he exhaled weakly.

The staff members listening in the back smirked.

”People get excited after a Quest. Especially after a long one. I get it.”

 Ruth chuckled.

”Hey, you idiot! Ruth!” Friedrich barked.

 ”…”

Lyritisse’s brows drew together in clear pain.

 Not physical pain—but something deeper.

She often made this face watching Rean and Vestacia get along, even back then.

 Lyritisse… loves Rean.

 Just like Vestacia does.

 Maybe even more than Vestacia.

But this brilliant woman was good at hiding her emotions.

She quickly returned to a resolute expression and addressed Friedrich.

”Guildmaster, don’t worry~ Just leave it to me. After sending Kian, I’ll sleep like a log to recover my strength.”

 ”…If you insist. Fine.”

 He turned to Kian.

”Kian, if Lyritisse looks like she’s about to collapse during the incantation, make sure to take care of her.”

 ”Understood.”

Nodding as he took the letter from Friedrich, Kian continued,

”When we arrive, I have a few acquaintances who can handle teleportation. I’ll leave the replies to them. Besides, Her Excellency Maribel will handle things appropriately.”

 ”Indeed.”

”Kian, let’s head to the back where we won’t be disturbed. I’ll open the gate.”

 ”Please do, Ms. Lyritisse.”

Lyritisse nodded and began to walk toward the entrance with a brisk demeanor that belied any emotional damage.

Kian quickly followed her after giving a slight bow to Friedrich.

As he walked behind Lyritisse, the sweet scent of a woman’s sweat reached his nose.

It was the kind of smell that filled a woman’s room right after waking up.

He didn’t get hard immediately, but he felt excitement.

Even a beauty has the scent of a human──.

Kian, just in case, slipped his hand into his pocket to adjust the position of his p**is.

(Despite having climaxed multiple times, I’m already fully charged. Must be because of the vampiric transformation. Good grief.)

’I told you before, don’t touch this one with those hands.’

(Being told that makes me want to touch.)

 ’Stop it.’

As they exited the guild building and moved to the empty back, Lyritisse immediately began the incantation for the teleportation gate ritual.

Kian leaned against the wall, watching.

Before long, the black gate opened without issue.

A strong scent of summer grass wafted through the air from beyond the gate.

It was the smell of the lush greenery thriving in the Izerland hills.

* * *

Thanking Lyritisse, he jumped into the gate.

A second later, he landed on the verdant, blooming hill.

 ”Take care.”

Lyritisse’s businesslike voice echoed from beyond the gate, and soon the distortion in space vanished.

She, the spellcaster, severed the magic of the gate.

It seemed she hadn’t lost consciousness after the activation, which was a relief for now.

 ”────”

Kian bowed to the space where the gate had vanished and turned on his heel once more.

The first thing that caught his eye was the massive fortress floating above the undulating green hills.

The political center of the Margrave Izerland territory── Izerland fortress.

 It was still enormous.

The great wall, which had withstood the invasions of McCutchen and Oswald, still displayed its imposing grandeur, unchanged from a few months ago.

However, a closer look revealed the fortress’s weakened state.

The area around the drawbridge was still seeing little foot traffic today.

No one was left waiting halfway across the drawbridge; everyone flowed smoothly toward the checkpoint.

In stark contrast, the flow of people and goods was stagnating.

The previous congestion felt like a lie.

Maribel’s letter had mentioned that since the commotion caused by McCutchen and Oswald last month, the citizens’ economic activities had significantly declined.

 ”────”

Descending the hill toward the town street,

he hurried along the winding path, reaching the front of the drawbridge.

The drawbridge was a metal structure crafted from the essence of earth magic.

Two carriages could fit side by side as they crossed the large bridge.

Below, the water’s surface sparkled, reflecting the morning sun. Occasionally, the tail of an aquatic monster would break the surface, sending up splashes.

The scent of water wafted up to his nose.

”──Oh, Kian! Is that you, Kian?”

As he approached the checkpoint beneath the arch of the castle gate, a guard standing next to the entry examination window raised his hand with a broad smile.

It was Liam, the former guard attendant of Maribel.

Due to recent vacancies, he had been promoted multiple times and was now the Guard Captain near the east gate.

The sunlight reflecting off the water danced and shimmered around him.

Kian adjusted the backpack slung over his shoulder and smiled back.

He raised his voice to be heard over the cool, strong wind whipping across the drawbridge.

 ”Good morning, Liam!”

”Good morning! When was the last time you came by… you seem to be visiting quite often. What brings you here today?”

 ”A message for Her Excellency.”

I stepped under the arch, avoiding the wind that rushed up from the surface of the water.

Kian drew closer to the stone wall alongside Liam and pulled a letter from his pocket.

Liam, illuminated by the reflected light, leaned in to peek at the letter.

 ”What is it?”

”It’s an urgent letter from the Guildmaster of East End.”
