Volume 7 Chapter 13 (Unwanted Story) Defeat

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Kent’s Perspective

When the dust cleared, a figure identical to Orphée Bleu from the Magician Guild appeared before me.

 O, Orphée Bleu!

 The actually real one!

”You don’t stand a chance against me now!”

As soon as Orphée Bleu appeared before me, he slammed his fist, enhanced by Body Enhancement Magic, into my abdomen.

 GAH!

The impact of the punch to my stomach took my breath away.

At the same time, sour liquid surged up from my stomach.

”Whoa there, gotta be careful not to hurt you too much. After all, this is my precious body. I’ll just erase your soul in an instant.”

Orphée Bleu began chanting a magic composition formula I’d never heard before.

”Gather, magic element (mana)! Become a cloud that weaves death and stop my enemy’s heartbeat! ‘Death Cloud’”

A black mist emanating from Orphée Bleu’s hands began to boil up around me, and the black mist seeped into every mucous membrane in my body.

”What the heck is this! Ugh! AHH! It burns like fire!”

As the black mist was absorbed through my mucous membranes, my breathing became more and more difficult.

”Just a little more suffering, and you can return to your world. Once you’re back, don’t you ever come back here again!”

Orphée Bleu looked at me with a leering grin plastered on his face.

Meanwhile, my breathing became increasingly labored, and my consciousness began to fade, and my heartbeat weakened.

This is rough… No way… I’m no match for him at all… I should have gotten stronger… Not aiming to be the best… That’s what brought me to this end… I was never meant to be able to stand up against him… Sorry, Milly.

I decided I would die in bed, but it doesn’t seem like I can keep that promise…

In my fading consciousness, I was confessing to Milly.

Next thing I knew, I woke up in a familiar room.

It was cluttered with old video game boxes and used DVDs, with a half-eaten convenience store meal left on the desk.

I was in a reclining chair meant for a computer.

Headphones were still on my ears, playing a light background track.

The computer screen showed the “Hunter Life” game, with my character, Kent, defeated.

The screen displayed a countdown timer, steadily decreasing.

 What the… !

 A dream ending?

After putting everyone through such a fright, it was just a dream? No way!

I was overcome with sadness and my vision blurred.

This world without Milly, Annabella, and the others felt empty and bleak.

I belong in the other world, with Milly and the others.

Damn it, I wish this dream wouldn’t end!

 Ping!

The moment I thought that, a loud sound effect blasted from the headphones.

Startled by the volume, I stared at the monitor.

The countdown timer had reached 0, and the screen displayed “LEVEL, JOB, SKILL, EQUIPMENT will be carried over. START AGAIN? YES/NO”.

 Without hesitation, I clicked YES.

’You will not be able to return to this world. Are you sure? YES/NO’

This world means nothing to me.

I clicked YES without a doubt.

’Therefore, the gate to Another World Grimoire shall once again open. May you vanquish Demon Lord Orphée Bleu.’

And so, I was once again destined to be summoned to Another World.

* * *

I woke up deep in the forest.

In my line of sight was a familiar menu screen.

I quickly displayed the card information.

The jobs and skills I had when I got beat by Orphée Bleu were all listed in the system.

However, some of the titles I had before were gone because of the new start, and my contract dragons, Rosvita and Ludmila, were also gone.

After checking my abilities, I opened the location map.

I didn’t use this feature much last time, but I opened it to see if it had been carried over.

The map showed the places I had moved to in the previous game, and according to it, I was currently in Darvis Forest in the Southern Region, where I first met Milly.

It said “New Game,” but is this the starting point?

…But this time, if I die, it’s game over.

If I don’t get stronger, I’ll probably lose to Orphée Bleu again.

Then, I heard a rustling sound coming from behind me.

I remember this place was a devilish realm teeming with “another world monsters”.

When I turned around, a Silver Mantis was swinging its scythe at me.

”Hmph! I’m not the same weakling I was back then! I won’t lose to someone like you!”

I parried its attack with my shield, then pulled out my Elitzina from my inventory and fired a few bullets at the Silver Mantis’s abdomen and head.

 BANG! BANG!

With those 2 shots, I ended the Silver Mantis’s life.

I start dismembering the Silver Mantis’s body as it collapses with a thud.

My Guild card carries over my previous playthrough, but only my Hunter rank.

My personal assets weren’t transferred, so I’m starting from scratch.

Even my room and board are out of my reach!

Of course, if I use my Handsome Guy Carrier to drop off Milly and the others, I wouldn’t have to worry about money, but this time, I’m determined to become a strong S-Class Hunter on my own and then meet up with them.

I need to become strong enough to protect them… So I have to keep hunting monsters in this Southern Region…

Thinking about it, “another world monsters” give a lot of experience points and their materials sell for a higher price than regular monsters.

I figured that training here would be a good idea.

Godard Village, where Akebus lives, is the closest to Darvis Forest and it’s within a day’s travel each way, making it a perfect base of operations.

I might be able to trade some materials for food.

Then again, maybe I could even get something for helping to take down the surrounding monsters.

I recalled that the Southern Region was fertile, and crops grew well, so they weren’t short on food, but the problem was monster attacks, which were hindering development.

I was contemplating my next move while disassembling the Silver Mantis I’d defeated.

 CLANG!

Suddenly, the tip of the disassembling knife hit something hard.

”What’s this? Did I hit bone?”

The hard object turned out to be a square, chip-like piece of metal.

”A chip? Come to think of it, Hector mentioned that Flesh Doll chips for controlling Love Dolls are sometimes found from ‘another world monster’.”

I thought it couldn’t be, but I took out the Flesh Doll from my inventory and compared the chip slot on its head with the chip I just found.
