Volume 3 Chapter 28 The Saint Is Watching I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Kian tied his horse within the monastery grounds and made his way to the church in front.
As he swung open the large double doors, his target was already there, kneeling before a saint’s statue, offering her prayers.
”────”
The Western Church’s white skirt fanned out like petals on the stone floor.
Though there was no light inside, the color of her attire gave the impression of a moon floating in the darkness.
(Ms. Aliona is as beautiful as ever today…)
He moved forward, careful not to disturb her, erasing his presence with each step.
The back of the kneeling woman was motionless.
Yet, the rich golden hair and pointed ears peeking out from under her white and red headwear subtly twitched.
The High Elf sister, chewing on her fingers in front of the saint’s statue, silently stood and turned around.
”──Oh, Kian. You’ve come to visit again?”
”Good evening, Ms. Aliona. I would like to see you every day, but the ways of the world do not allow it. This is a souvenir for you.”
”Mmm…, olive oil? From the Izerland fortress. Thank you, as always.”
”It’s only natural to take care of you, so this is the least I can do.”
Aliona held the bottle of olive oil to her chest and smiled, saying, “I was just wanting oil. Don’t mind if I use this, okay?”
Her neatly groomed golden eyebrows and emerald-like green eyes were like jewels.
Not a single wrinkle marred her face, and her skin was as tight and dewy as a woman in her twenties.
While Elves and witches always appeared young, Aliona, with both heritages, showed no signs of age or ugliness.
Kian couldn’t help but stare at the crushed habit over her chest, caused by the brown bottle.
”You’re not wearing your usual azure outfit today. It looks like the attire of an adventurer monk.”
”Oh, didn’t you know? This is something like formal wear for prayer. What I usually wear can get dirty; it’s my everyday attire. Kian, when you come here, it’s generally after work, right?”
”I suppose so.”
When Kian came to visit, Aliona was usually either in the vineyard or garden, or she had returned to her room.
Occasionally, she could be found in the underground workshop she had set up next to the cemetery out back.
She deliberately scheduled her prayer and choir practice times to avoid overlap, and if such an atmosphere was present, she would wait outside the premises.
Indeed, her figure clad in white was a rare sight.
”Ms. Aliona is so beautiful that you could be mistaken for a goddess no matter what you wear. Being in your presence makes time feel as if it has stopped──”
”Oh, oh, staring at my chest while saying that doesn’t make it very convincing, you know.”
”────”
”Heh.”
”I have the illusion that time has stopped, and I find myself gazing at your noble face for ages.”
”Ah, yeah. Why don’t you sit down? I’ve got time today, right?”
”Yes.”
Directed to the first long bench, Kian plopped down right in the middle, causing the wooden chair to creak loudly under his significantly increased weight.
Aliona, who had placed a bottle right next to him, sat down gently with her knees together.
She gazed in surprise at Kian’s thick arms with her almond-shaped eyes wide open.
”Kian, you’ve really grown, haven’t you? I’m getting old too.”
”Adventures have helped me grow, Ms. Aliona. You, on the other hand, remain as beautiful as ever.”
”You say such nice things. But lately, I’ve been taking my beauty more seriously than ever. This feeling persists because someone out there still treats me like a woman.”
Aliona said this as she playfully winked.
Then Kian told her about his adventures from the past week (of course, omitting the part about flirting with various girls), and Aliona listened with a constant smile.
The sister only opened her mouth to nod in agreement or to cover her lips with her hand and laugh elegantly.
He talked more than he used to.
Conversely, Aliona spoke less about what she had been doing over the past week.
(I couldn’t help but want to whisk Ms. Aliona away from this place. I didn’t know how much she cherished the monastery, but I imagined her freely flitting about, and it filled me with a sense of warmth. I had a feeling that she would smile even brighter than she did now.)
Yet, he couldn’t shake the thought that this might just be his selfish desire──lost in contemplation, his voice slowly faded as he shared tales of his adventures.
”You’ve had so many adventures, Kian. Keep it up and travel to all sorts of places, meeting various people. When you’re as old as I am, those experiences will surely become your treasures.”
”Ms. Aliona?”
”What is it?”
”It might be that I could be granted Dacia from Her Excellency Maribel soon.”
He turned toward the Sister as he made this bold statement.
Aliona widened her eyes slightly and simply said, “I see.”
”Eighty years ago, your dear friend──Ms. Karthana──passed away there. If I can hunt down the monsters and develop the land for people to live in, they said I could become the lord of the territory.”
”That place is teeming with dangerous monsters. I can’t fathom what the Princess’ intentions might be, but I doubt she’s offering Dacia solely out of goodwill. I don’t have the right to tell you not to take risks, but please think it through carefully with everyone.”
”It’s precisely because it’s so perilous that I want to take skilled magicians who know Dacia well with me. Ms. Aliona, what do you think I should do to transfer the management rights of the ‘Thorn Magician’ from the Western Church to me?”
”What can you do? It’s not possible. The cardinal in the royal capital wouldn’t allow it. Besides, Kian, you don’t have any connections with any of the cardinals, do you?”
”Well, the closest person I know in the church might be Mr. Homolka.”
According to Guy, Homolka was set to become a cardinal soon, but as a new cardinal, he would likely just get absorbed into one of the existing factions out of the 20.
He wouldn’t wield much influence.
”Then perhaps you could borrow me, you know. As promised before, I’ll be your strength under various conditions.”
”I’m counting on you. ────Mm…”
”Is something wrong?”
”No…”
He wrapped his arm around Aliona’s slender shoulder sitting next to him.
Then he nuzzled her glossy golden hair.
”────?!?!?”
”Ah, so it was your hair. I’ve been curious about that sweet honey-like scent since earlier. Did you bake biscuits?”
”Y-Yes, but Kian, I don’t think it’s proper to pull a lady in so roughly and sniff her.”
”So, well, that’s just it. Kian, you can’t do that kind of thing, this old lady thinks it’s not good.”
”Wh…?”
Kian gazed at Aliona’s eyes.
Her hair, parted to the left, flowed to the right, framing her face.
It seemed that her hair, more silky than before, was beautifully groomed.
It was evidence that she took care of her hair as thoroughly as Christy did.
”Just a minute, Kian? Are you listening?Such behavior could be offensive. Even among close acquaintances, there should be a sense of propriety and distance… Hm!?”
He silenced her with a kiss.
Her big green eyes popped open, and soon her strength left her slender shoulders.
He felt the soft, plump texture of her lips.
The sweet scent of biscuits lingered too.
When he pulled away again, Aliona was trembling awkwardly.
Her pointed ears had wilted.
Kian placed a wave of golden hair on his palm and, as if showing off, took a deep sniff by her ear.
He whispered softly.
”You seem to be aware of your own charm, just as you said. Didn’t you wonder what would happen when you met me with such a beautifully groomed appearance?”
”I wasn’t expecting you to come today. So, I haven’t even taken a bath yet, and um…!?”
Mid-sentence, he grabbed Aliona’s hand and pressed it against his groin.
Beneath his pants, the sweet scent of a woman excited his rigid member.
Touching that already rock-hard and ready form, the face of the devout and innocent elf sister was flushed with rising lust.
