Volume 1 Chapter 10 The Girl’s Circumstances

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

In the capital city, there is a famous merchant guild with many shops.

Lifia’s mother was born as the daughter of the guild leader.

Since she was little, her beauty and cuteness made her family and everyone around her spoil her.

Even the strict guild leader was very soft on his daughter.

Soon, her mother enjoyed a free and fun life in the capital’s social scene.

One day, an elf man traveling appeared before her.

The elf’s beauty, like a foreign wind, captured her mother’s heart instantly.

For her, it was a fateful love.

But for the elf man, it was different.

To him, the relationship with her mother was just a temporary game.

Her mother was crazy about him, but the elf prepared for his next journey and left her easily.

However, by the time he left, her mother was already pregnant with Lifia.

After giving birth to Lifia, her mother continued her free and wild life, getting involved with new men.

This time, he was an adventurer.

Adventurers are people who hunt and gather outside the town where monsters roam.

They choose dangerous jobs that stable citizens avoid.

Of course, some adventurers are serious and trustworthy.

Successful ones earn respect and sometimes catch the eye of powerful people, building their social status.

 But many are just troublemakers.

Adventurers who ignore rules and cause problems are everywhere.

The man her mother chose was one of those troublemakers.

From the guild leader’s view, he was not a suitable match at all.

He tried to convince her to return to the right path, not allowing his daughter to make the same mistake.

But her mother refused and ran away with the adventurer.

 Leaving little Lifia behind.

After that, there was no word from her mother, and she was lost to time.

Left alone, Lifia was taken in and raised by her grandfather, the merchant guild leader.

He adored her like she was the apple of his eye.

But as an illegitimate child, she rarely appeared in high society.

Being half-elf also meant while loved at home, she was treated like a disease outside.

Still, Lifia remembers being “happy enough.”

Her grandfather gave her all the education she needed.

Reading, writing, history, geography – even trade knowledge.

Her cultured mind came straight from this upbringing.

But time passed, and grandfather died of old age and illness.

The merchant guild went to her uncle.

But he was bad at business, and the guild declined.

Unable to compete, he sold guild assets to stay afloat.

 Every decision backfired.

 The once-great guild neared bankruptcy.

 Then came seizure day.

Uncle had piled up debts he couldn’t repay.

Everything – house, property – was repossessed.

 Including Lifia herself.

Her uncle used her – a beautiful young half-elf – as valuable collateral.

 So Lifia became a slave.

* * *

 ”So… yeah. That’s my story.”

 ”You’ve had it rough.”

Walking home from the merchant’s house, I listened to Lifia’s tale.

Pretty harsh life for a teenage girl.

Yet strangely, she didn’t look sad.

”I miss grandfather, but he lived long. I barely remember mother’s face.”

Lifia spoke about her past almost casually.

 ”Besides, I had Moo-Moo.”

 ”Moo-Moo?”

”This is my spirit. My dad was a spirit user, so I can use a little magic too. It’s been with me since I was born, like a friend.”

Lifia smiled and placed her small hands on her chest.

I could see how much the spirit, named Moo-Moo, healed her loneliness and supported her.

Even after losing her family, she stayed strong because of that spirit.

Speaking of which, Lifia’s info said she had Spirit Magic skills.

I think the spirit’s name was something like Murun…

 It was a long name.

 So, Moo-Moo for short.

 ”Is the spirit still nearby?”

I looked around, but of course, I couldn’t see any strange creatures.

”It seems normal people can’t see it. It doesn’t have a shape, just spreads like air and wraps around everything.”

I imagined something fluffy like a Kesaran Pasaran, but it seems I was wrong.

”Spirit Magic, huh? What can it do?”

I was excited to finally hear about magic, something I had been curious about since coming to this fantasy world.

 My heart raced.

 Lifia answered happily.

”It tells me many things about people around me. Like if they are kind, scary, neat, or messy.”

She paused and looked at me.

”And it might tell me about someone who can help me.”

”So, you mean the spirit talked to me because of that…”

”Yes. It told me this person is kind to me and will protect me.”

So our meeting was guided by the spirit.

Maybe it even knew about my “Love Hotel” skill.

”…But I didn’t think you would be so naughty.”

 Lifia blushed and continued speaking.

I did take her virginity on our first day, after all.

 Huh?

Did the spirit see me with Lifia?

 Is it angry?

Or maybe in the spirit’s view, doing that is part of protecting her.

”Lifia, you love naughty things too, right? So the spirit isn’t wrong.”

”W-well, it was you who made me naughty, Master!”

So she doesn’t deny being naughty.

 ”Hahaha.”

I laugh and gently pat Lifia’s cute, puffed-up head.

”So, Spirit Magic is for reading people?”

”Um, no. It depends on the user and the spirit.”

 Lifia looks away shyly.

”I’m half and still learning. I can only know people’s feelings and personalities.”

As she says this, Lifia lightly waves her fingers, and the air around us moves softly.

A gentle breeze dances around my face.

 This is magic wind.

So, Lifia’s spirit, “Muu-chan,” is a wind and personality-reading spirit.

Spirits can create not just wind, but also fire, water, and control trees, among other things.

”Pure-blood elves can use stronger Spirit Magic, but this is all I can do…”

Lifia shrugs, looking a bit sorry.

This little wind isn’t very useful.

Maybe it can dust things off?

A weak wind isn’t good enough for a hair dryer.

”Just bringing us together is enough. It’s more useful than any strong Spirit Magic.”

I say this from my heart.

She brought me such a cute slave.

 It’s the best!

 Thank you, Muu-chan.

I could bow and clap twice for that.

Lifia’s cheeks turn a little red, and she gives a shy smile.

”Thank you. But I want to help you more, with Muu-chan.”

Lifia tightly grips her hands in front of her chest, showing her small determination.

I can’t help but smile at her.

”You can do it. Both of us are just starting out, right?”

 ”Yes. From now on.”

We nod at each other and quietly start walking.

A gentle breeze blows, and Lifia’s blonde hair sways softly.

It feels like Muu-chan is cheering for us too.
