Volume 1 Chapter 16 The Next Prey
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I stepped into the Adventurer’s Guild and headed to the reception counter.
Behind the counter, several staff members were busy with their work.
Among them was Tifi, the receptionist who helped me yesterday.
Her chestnut hair was tied back just like yesterday.
Compared to the other staff, Tifi had a long line of adventurers waiting.
Many adventurers were probably here just for her.
She is indeed beautiful.
And her breasts are big.
The adventurers at the reception seemed a bit restless, straightening up whenever she looked their way.
I understand how they feel.
But I have Lifia.
I’m not that desperate.
To save time, I joined the line for the less busy young staff member.
When I glanced at Tifi, I suddenly felt like we made eye contact.
Was it just my imagination?
After a short wait, it was my turn.
But just as I stood in front of the counter…
”Hey, John, can you switch with me?”
Tifi’s voice rang out from the next line.
”Huh? Oh, sure!”
The young staff member named John looked a bit surprised but switched with Tifi.
He moved to the next counter.
Tifi smiled at me as she came to the front.
It seemed she came over just to help me.
I could feel the jealous stares from the adventurers who were waiting for Tifi.
”Who is that guy?” “Getting special treatment from Tifi?” “Is he a merchant?” “Why is he at the adventurer’s reception?” “My TifTif…” I could hear their whispers.
It felt nice to be the center of their jealous attention.
I felt a sense of superiority.
But it was a bit scary.
Poor John, having to deal with the grumpy adventurers.
”So, where is that girl with you?”
Tifi asked in a low voice.
She must be talking about Lifia.
”I left her at home.”
I replied quietly.
”That’s probably for the best.”
Tifi nodded, looking a bit relieved.
”After that, those 2 followed you out of the guild. Were you okay?”
”Yeah, I managed to shake them off.”
I smiled and answered, and Tifi looked relieved, her hand resting on her chest.
”That’s good to hear!”
A look of relief appeared on her face.
”Now, about the job…”
Tifi switched to work mode.
”Yes, here it is.”
I took out the horns of the mole from my bag and showed them to her.
There were a total of 22.
”So many!”
Tifi’s eyes widened, and she couldn’t hide her surprise.
”I’m sorry to say this, but I honestly didn’t think you could achieve this much.”
Tifi let out a impressed sigh.
She must have thought it was a really tough job.
She leaned in with a curious expression.
”Did you do something special? If you tell me your method, I can pay you extra as a tip.”
”Well, actually, the elf girl Lifia I was with yesterday can use Spirit Magic.”
When I answered, Tifi’s face lit up for a moment, but then she quickly looked disappointed.
Spirit Magic is Lifia’s special skill, and it’s not something others can easily copy.
After hearing my explanation, Tifi nodded, looking a bit let down but understanding.
”I see… it was her Spirit Magic. She’s quite talented.”
”Yes, without her, it wouldn’t have gone so smoothly.”
If it was just me, I might not have caught a single one.
It was supposed to be a pretty tough job.
Suddenly, I remembered to ask.
”Are moles really that harmful? The field I saw yesterday was really messed up.”
”Not all farms are affected, but a farmer I know has been struggling.”
Tifi explained, furrowing her brow a bit.
It seems that farm has a lot of trouble with moles.
”Anyway, about your reward…”
Tifi tightened her expression and got back to work mode.
”For the 22 moles you defeated, the total is 22,000 Aurum. Please check.”
As she said this, Tifi arranged silver coins on a tray and presented them.
Wow, I made quite a bit!
”Yes, that’s right.”
I check the number of silver coins, take them, and sign the documents.
”Are you going to hunt moles today again?”
”No, next is…”
To be honest, I can’t expect to level up with moles anymore.
The earnings were okay, but MP is more important than cash.
Tifi might be looking forward to hunting moles, but I really want to prioritize leveling up.
Next, I need to hunt some stronger monsters.
I also think in the back of my mind that it wouldn’t be so bad to hunt moles again if I get the chance.
”I’m thinking of challenging a stronger monster. Is there something just right?”
Tifi puts her hand on her chin and looks deep in thought.
”I see… I have a few options, but they’re all more dangerous than moles, you know? Rather, moles are the exception for being safe.”
Her words make me a little hesitant, but I can’t give up here.
Leveling up is essential for a better life with Lifia.
”I guess there’s no help for it, please tell me.”
