Excited, he looks around and sniffs the ground.
I can feel his determination in that action.
No doubt about it.
That orc is targeting us.
The orc is sniffing around, making noises as he searches the area.
His face twisted in a creepy, vicious way.
It’s like he found his prey and smiled.
Then, he just sat down heavily right there.
I messed up.
It was too soon to come out after just an hour.
We should have stayed in the Love Hotel for a whole day or more.
He’s sure we will show up there again.
”Master…”
Lifia’s voice was filled with worry.
”Well, it can’t be helped. Let’s relax inside for a while.”
I tried to sound casual and answered like it was nothing, keeping a calm expression.
After all, I didn’t want to make her worry more.
* * *
The orc stayed there for a while.
He would move a bit away, then come right back, and held something like a nut in his hand and started to eat it greedily.
After finishing his meal, he lay down on the ground and fell asleep, his big body sprawled out.
Eventually, he left again, but when he came back, he was dragging a goblin by one hand.
The goblin was in bad shape.
It seemed too weak to struggle, just hanging limply from the orc’s arm.
Then, the orc bit into the goblin.
Crunch, squish──gross sounds echoed.
The horrific scene made me close my eyes.
I couldn’t show that to Lifia, and I didn’t want to see it either.
That giant has completely claimed this place as his territory, waiting for us to come back.
”Master, are you okay?”
Lifia looked up at me with worry.
I shook off my thoughts and smiled at her.
”No problem. Let’s take a break here for a while.”
Two days passed, and finally, the orc left the area.
Still, just to be safe, we decided to stay in the Love Hotel a bit longer.
And on the 4th day.
I really wanted to go outside.
The Love Hotel has food, baths, and a cozy bed, all ready for us.
Beside me, there’s my dear girl.
Even in this comfortable Love Hotel, hiding for a long time was more cramped than I thought it would be.
If I was hiding by choice, it might have been fine.
But being chased and hiding is not relaxing for the mind.
I miss the sun.
Lifia shows no sign of complaint.
Still, this tense life must be giving her a lot of stress.
I was at my limit too.
So, I decided to go outside.
”It’s okay, there’s nothing here.”
Lifia checks the area as always, making sure it’s safe.
We step carefully into the forest, staying alert.
”Alright, let’s get out of the forest quickly──”
Then, a sudden sound of wind cuts through the air.
Something flies towards us through the trees.
The next moment, it crashes with a loud noise into a huge tree in front of us, breaking the trunk.
A strong shockwave echoes across the ground.
Rocks fly everywhere.
I shield Lifia reflexively.
A dull impact runs through my back.
Lifia and I fall to the ground.
”Ugh!”
”Master!?”
Trampling the bushes, a green giant appears.
It’s the orc.
It has an evil smile.
Did this guy throw the rocks?
”Guggugg”
An unpleasant laugh echoes in my ears.
Was it waiting for us?
For us, not knowing when we’d come out?
And did it attack from outside Lifia’s sensing range?
It read her range?
What a bastard.
We crawl back into the Love Hotel.
”Moo-Moo! Please!”
Lifia scatters chili powder and uses wind magic to send it towards the orc.
The red powder flies towards the orc’s face on the wind.
The orc flinches for a moment, then shakes its arm.
The wind pressure from its massive arm easily scatters the powder.
But it gave us a moment.
I use Lifia’s shoulder to somehow roll inside the door.
It’s bad.
My body hurts, feels heavy.
I can’t move like I want to.
My consciousness is fading.
Quick! We have to close the door!
”Lifia, close the…”
With those words, I let go of my consciousness.
