Volume 11 Chapter 9 Nokin Vs Thelma
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I’m already too close to dodge…
I block the [Flash Ray] with my greatsword, but the shock hits my guts and I stop breathing.
Even blocking, this power…
”If you thought it was over, you’ve gotten pretty quiet! Take this──[Summoner of Purgatory]!”
Thelma moves closer while I’m still frozen from blocking [Flash Ray].
I’m already in her range, and my belly is wide open.
She puts both hands on my bare stomach.
At that moment, a fierce heat burns there.
”Ughhh!!”
Flames burst up from my belly where she touched, burning my skin.
The pain from the burns twists my face.
”Got you now! [Aerial Spiral Spear]!”
Seeing a chance, Beatrice jumps high with her spear pointed down, twisting like a drill to strike from above.
My body is already slow and hurt from Thelma’s [Summoner of Purgatory], so I can’t dodge Beatrice’s attack.
Suddenly, a shadow flashes across Beatrice as she dives down.
It’s Garo, kicking Beatrice away.
”Mr. Nokin! Playtime’s over. If we don’t fight seriously now, it’ll be disrespectful to you.”
Geronimo rushes over and helps me up.
”Yeah, fighting seriously is the right thing to do with this opponent.”
”…Can’t help it. I wanted more fun, but as a warrior, I must keep honor. So, I’ll fight with all I’ve got.”
I stand up and take the stance for a move my body knows from thousands of trainings.
Then, swinging my greatsword fast, I release a huge shockwave toward Thelma and the others.
Three members of the ‘Silver Wolf’ who couldn’t dodge my [Great Wave] fly back and crash into the wall hard.
”No way… You can’t normally get a [Sword Flash] with a greatsword!”
Matthew stared in disbelief, his face a picture of shock.
The crowd murmured in confusion, unable to grasp what had just happened.
”Never let your guard down! This is a battlefield, after all.”
Garo charged at Matthew, who was still reeling from my attack.
”Ack! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Matthew raised his great shield, parrying Garo’s spear tip to prevent a fatal strike.
Meanwhile, Geronimo struggled against the swift Beatrice, using his formidable defense to wear her down.
”This is bad… I intended to finish them off before the troublesome ones showed up… but now, I might just capture the General.”
Thelma led the remaining members to challenge me.
Thelma seemed to be using Body Enhancement Magic, not just her [Fighting Spirit Technique], but her abilities were also enhanced by the glow of magic.
Her fists were even faster than before.
Then, my head throbbed painfully.
A fragment of memory floated up in my mind.
In that memory, I was fighting monsters alongside Thelma and Matthew, and behind me was a woman, covered in blood from before, slicing down a monster with her sword.
…Who is this woman?!
Ugh!
My head feels like it’s going to split open…
Disturbed by the emerging memories, I froze, and Thelma’s fists pummeled me one after another.
Her serious punches made my body scream in pain.
”Oh dear, can’t even dodge an old lady’s punches? Freyria would be disappointed to see you, a toothless Nokin.”
At the mention of ‘Freyria’, a deep, dark emotion surged up from the pit of my stomach.
That emotion consumed my spirit, driving my body to move on impulse.
”Don’t you dare say that name in front of me!”
I brushed aside Thelma’s punches and grabbed her neck.
Then, lifting her high off the ground, I squeezed her neck tightly.
The suspended Thelma struggled to break free, but soon she lost consciousness, unable to breathe.
”Big sister Thelma!”
I tossed the dazed Thelma to a ‘Silver Wolf’ member.
As a frantic member tried to catch her, my spinning kick hit and sent him tumbling to the ground.
I gave a guy next to me a whack with the hilt of my greatsword too.
”Damn it! I surrender! I surrender! Referee, could you call an ambulance, please? I’m worried about Thelma’s guy!”
Matthew, who had been fighting Garo, decided the situation was unfavorable and admitted defeat.
”Uncle Matthew! Bea and the others haven’t lost yet!”
”Beatrice! We’re monster hunters! Running away when things look bad is supposed to be our iron rule! We’ve got no chance against the Nokin team now! Monster hunting doesn’t have the aesthetics of certain death. If we’re gonna lose, we run!”
Beatrice, scolded by Matthew, reluctantly dropped her weapon and agreed to surrender.
The referee acknowledged their surrender and rang the bell to signal the end of the match.
”The winner is… the Nokin team!”
Cheers erupted from the stands as the outcome was decided.
Before Matthew rushed to Thelma, he said something to me.
”Nokin! It’s not cool to be angry, but that was overdoing it. There was nothing we could do about the Freyria incident… just forget it.”
”…Don’t you dare say that word again.”
”Oh, oh uh. Got it.”
Maybe sensing my fierce aura, Matthew flinched and hurried to tend to Thelma.
”Lord Nokin… It’s over now… There’s no need to worry. It’s better not to remember.”
Garo was also being careful with me since I was attacking with my emotions laid bare.
…Yeah, that’s right.
I have Alonsa.
As long as she’s with me, I don’t need anything else…
And so, I defeated the ‘Silver Wolf’ Thelma team and won the tournament.

*Kent’s Perspective
When Nokin’s match ended, I was drenched in cold sweat.
That’s because Nokin, one of the top 3 hunting groups, had won a decisive victory over ‘Silver Wolf’ after a bit of a struggle.
”Milly, do you think I can beat Nokin…? I’m starting to feel like it’s impossible.”
”The power to effortlessly defeat most of the ‘Silver Wolf’ main force is amazing, even for an S or A-class Hunter. But this is a Garuda Clan competition, and any means to win is fair game. As long as you win, that’s all that matters. Talia should understand that too.”
Milly sat in the VIP area, casually sharpening her claws.
”Is there some secret deal? With Nokin’s personality, I don’t think she’d be bought off.”
”Well, it’s okay. More importantly, it’s Lydiane’s team’s turn next. There’s no chance of winning against Hendric, but it’s good training if she fights with the intention of borrowing his strength.”
Milly seemed to know something, but for once, she wasn’t acting overprotective and was calmly watching the match.
In the arena, Lydiane’s team stood in line in their usual athletic wear, and the audience seats were filled with loud cheers.
As Milly had predicted, the match ended in a decisive victory for Hendric’s team.
Lydiane and Giuliana were quickly defeated, leaving the other team members’ struggles in vain as they were silenced within the first 5 minutes.
Hendric secured a complete victory without being disturbed by the booing from the audience or his flashy gym outfit.
Thus, the next match was set between Nokin and Hendric.
