”What is a child who isn’t even an adult saying? As a child, you could only teach me how to wield a sword. That alone won’t make things better. I needed to create some other way on my own.”

 ”Kian…”

”So you are not at fault.”

The arena is quiet with Shin.

Kian’s voice echoes, clear enough to reach Sarah across from him.

Kian twisted his eyes and repeated himself.

”You are not at fault. It’s all my fault. I was stubborn and foolish. It’s my fault for not realizing anything. It’s my fault for making you cry.”

 ”That’s not true…”

”I really appreciate you. I wanted to thank you with a smile when we parted. But I couldn’t say it properly. It ended up like a fight. So I want to say it here. Thank you for not abandoning me, for always supporting me. I am more grateful to you than anyone else from Azrael. Without you, I would have been all alone. Because you were there, I could live in this dry land of sand and rock.”

He raised his right hand to show.

Beyond the audience seats in the arena, the blue sky and the bare brown rock of the mountain peak were visible.

 A strong wind blew.

It was the wind of Azrael, filled with hot sand.

Sarah’s warrior monk gear fluttered as she held her wooden sword, her black hair dancing in the wind.

She opened her black eyes wide and slightly parted her lips.

The tears that had fallen turned into droplets and scattered behind her.

Kian stared directly at his fiancée, 30 meters away.

He thought she was probably giving him a pure smile.

”I didn’t come here today to be defeated by you. If I am still a burden in your heart, then I must cut that away myself. I will save you now. I will show you. Please take my full power, Sarah.”

The ‘domain’ that distorts physical laws with energy (ki) cannot be used within Sarah’s magic resistance range.

If she resist, the laws will go back to how they were.

If that happens, he can’t use super-speed movement or reduce the damage from it inside the ‘domain.’

If he get close to her, he can only bend the physical laws within his body or a few centimeters around her.

(To avoid breaking my body, using ‘Leap’ to only bend the laws inside me is too slow. Sarah reacts. When she gets ready and sets up ‘Wall,’ even my blade can’t get through her flimsy defense.)

 He must not be blocked.

 He must not be dodged.

 Therefore.

He has no choice but to keep bending the physical laws inside and outside his body, even if it breaks him.

(Without giving her a chance to react, I will cut her down in one strike!)

”You want to save me…? You?”

 ”Yes.”

Kian slowly pulls out his wooden sword and steps forward.

 Twenty meters.

If he steps any closer, the battle will start…

Sarah’s eyes, filled with tears, twisted in pain.

”Don’t joke around. You have no power or resolve. You can only be defeated by me here. …Don’t you understand? You are not suited to be a swordsman! You can’t become a warrior monk! You would be much happier living a normal life than being with a clumsy and heartless girl like me. You deserve a kind girl who can do anything and truly cares for you!”

”That’s for me to decide, not you.”

”…If you don’t understand, I’ll teach you now. Your efforts mean nothing. I will show you how pointless it is to add one by one from 0. That is my last mission, to protect you, which I failed.”

She said this and raised her wooden sword beside her right ear, ready to strike.

 Just a slash.

With the signal to start, she plans to cut him down without letting him do anything.

 Just like in the past.

Back then, he was also knocked away by pure speed and strength.

 ”────”

 Kian.

 (Secret Technique)

He faced Sarah and pulled his left leg back wide.

The wooden sword he drew rested against his left side.

He lowered his center of gravity, muscles in his right leg tensing like he was about to sprint.

 He was ready.

The world around him faded to gray.

He could only hear the sounds from inside his body.

He was ready to go at any moment.

 ”────!?”

 He sensed Sarah’s nervousness.

She must have felt his sharpened sword energy.

Even without magic power, even with his weak boy’s body, his skilled technique was aimed at her life.

Sarah, being a genius, could sense that if he held back, he would be the one in danger.

 (But)

 ”──Both sides, begin!”

 (‘Pursuit of the Shadow’!)

As his father’s voice echoed, he kicked off the stone floor.

His heartbeat slowed to a crawl, and the veins in his eyes bulged, making everything move in slow motion.

He burst forward like a beast on all fours, feeling the muscles in his right leg tearing as he pushed his left leg forward.

What he was about to do was the final strike.

 There was no turning back.

A technique that moves forward while crushing his body and legs.

His shadow couldn’t keep up with his speed, trailing behind him.

 Thus, Pursuit of the Shadow.

The swordsmanship of Azrael, the god of death, beyond human understanding.

 The second Secret Technique.

 (Sarah)

He watched as his childhood friend began to unleash black energy (ki) from her back to activate ‘Thunder’ while forming a ‘Wall’ in front of her.

A continuous beast-like growl escaped from between her clenched teeth.

A wild beast ready to pounce.

Since their sword training days, he had secretly envied her sword talent.

 Gratitude and admiration.

Anger, regret, sadness, and hatred towards pity.

All these mixed emotions clashed inside him, forcing him to suppress them.

 (Sarah!)

The distance to her was 23 meters.

He needed 4 steps to reach her.

In his mind, the best path to move forward was highlighted in red, floating before him.

In the place where Kian was about to step with his 4 feet, there was a shadow of memories from Azrael, where Sarah and Kian had touched.

 Their meeting.

The memory of the day they promised their future on the golden sandy beach.

 Days spent training hard.

And the farewell from 15 years ago.

For Kian, these were the early echoes of his youth.
