Tifi smiled quietly.
”But, if you’ll tell me…”
Her cheeks were a little red, and her eyes looked sexy.
It wasn’t just the alcohol, I think.
”Tifi…”
I almost reached out to touch her shoulder──
”Sister Tifi, let’s sleep together!”
A little girl came into the room, rubbing her eyes.
”Oh.”
An awkward silence fell between us.
”Well, I guess I can’t help it.”
Tifi smiled and started taking care of the girl gently.
The sexy look she had before was gone, and now she looked like a calm mother.
”Well then, Mr. Taro.”
She turned to me and put her finger on her lips.
”Let’s continue our talk some other time, okay?”
”Yeah, later.”
Too bad, but it seems like it’s over for tonight.
I’ll have another chance to talk to her slowly.
* * *
And the next day, we were at a field near the church.
Tifi, the priest, and the curious children were all there.
They probably wanted to see how we hunt horned moles.
I was holding my usual spear.
And I gave Lifia a new hunting short bow.
I hadn’t given her a weapon before, but I thought it would be useful from now on, so I prepared it for this.
The other day, after taking this job at the guild, I delivered shampoo and rinse to Mrs. Otis.
With this, the debt was cleared, and I also got new sales.
I used that money to buy Standard Healing Potions and this bow.
By putting the Standard Healing Potions in the refrigerator and registering them, I can buy them with points.
My adventures will be safer from now on.
But today, it’s Lifia’s bow and arrows that will be useful.
With Tifi and the priest watching, we finally started the horned mole hunt.
”Alright, Lifia, I’m counting on you.”
”Yes!”
Lifia started chanting a spell, looking nervous.
Her golden hair swayed in the wind, sparkling in the light.
Her clear blue eyes, like jewels, were seriously focused on one point.
”Oh, Moorum, my spirit,
Find the prey and guide it with the wind,
Deliver my arrow to the beast underground!”
Then she nocked an arrow, aiming not at the field, but up into the sky above it.
”Ex-Dux!”
It was Lifia’s first time using a bow and arrow.
She had practiced some, but she didn’t have the skill to hunt.
Yet, the arrow she shot flew through the air with great speed.
Instead of cutting through the wind, it seemed to ride it.
As it flew, it changed course at an unnatural angle.
Then it plummeted down, stabbing into the soil of the field.
”Pierce!”
A beast’s cry echoed from the ground.
Ignoring the stunned spectators, I walked over and pulled out the arrow stuck in the field.
There was a now-dead horned mole impaled on it.
It worked.
”Oh, how easy…”
The priest was surprised.
I breathed a sigh of relief that our plan had succeeded.
The plan was the same as last time: explore, then use the wind’s power to guide the arrow, hitting the target horned mole accurately.
With Spirit Magic, we enhanced the bow’s skill and power.
The targeting and acceleration were handled by the spirit Mooluumventas.
It was thanks to Lifia’s enhanced spirit sorcery and the increased power of the wind that this tactic was possible.
”Master! I did it!”
”Yes, you did well.”
”Hehe.”
Lifia happily ran over, and I patted her head.
”Big Sis Lifia is so amazing!”
”Awesome! A mole!”
”Today we have meat!”
”Do it again!”
The children gathered around, excited.
”Um, that, the…”
”Show us!”
I spoke to the flustered Lifia.
”Okay, everyone, wait a moment.”
Lifia blushed a bit, but she took out another arrow.
To meet the children’s expectations, she used her spirit sorcery again.
Each time she shot an arrow, the cry of a horned mole filled the air, followed by the children’s cheers.
The children chased after the arrows and joyfully collected the horned moles.
However, being surrounded by the kids made things less efficient.
Between their excitement and hers, Lifia couldn’t focus on the hunt.
”Lifia, can you help me with my spear at the same time? Just like last time.”
”Oh, yes. No problem.”
Lifia nodded and sent the wind to the spear.
The spear’s ribbons fluttered in the wind, showing us where the prey was.
I moved to match its dance, then thrust with a sharp strike.
I caught it without a hitch.
While I was hunting like this, an excited kid ran over.
He looked like a little troublemaker.
”Wow, you’re amazing! How do you know where the moles are, uncle?”
”The spear’s ribbons tell me. And I’m not old enough to be an uncle.”
”The spear does!? Can I do it too?”
I thought for a moment.
Did it have to be me to pierce the horned mole?
Nah, anyone could do it.
If they used Lifia’s Spirit Magic.
I glanced at Lifia, and she smiled and nodded back.
”Alright, give it a try.”
”Thanks, mister!”
…Well, whatever.
I handed over the spear, and the boy accepted it happily, running off to the fields.
He started hunting horned moles with excitement, shouting “Got it!” as he caught one after another.
Other kids chased after him.
Seeing this, other children got eager to use the spear too, and soon a scramble began.
At first, they were taking turns, but soon, fights broke out among them as they pushed each other and shouted.
”Hey, you fools, stop it!”
I stepped in and took the spear away.
It was crazy to fight over something sharp.
Seeing this, Tifi hurried over to break it up, giving them a scolding.
Her voice was gentle yet firm, and the kids calmed down, following her lead.
In the end, they took turns with the spear, and everyone seemed happy to follow the rules.
Meanwhile, the girls were having fun hunting horned moles too, borrowing bows and arrows from Lifia.
They seemed a little unsure on their first hunt, but gradually got the hang of it, showing bright smiles.
One by one, they released arrows, steadily making catches.
And all day long, everyone kept hunting horned moles.
Not just in the fields around the church, but we also went to some fields a bit farther away to hunt horned moles.
In the end, with everyone’s help, we finally managed to catch 50 horned moles that day!
