Volume 11 Chapter 13 Foolish Talk And Quarrel!?

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Nokin’s Perspective

Ever since I fought with Thelma and the others, I couldn’t stop thinking about a woman named Freyria.

After the match, every time I remembered her name, a dark feeling bubbled up inside me, filling me with discomfort.

Garo seems to know about her, but I only have memories from the past year, so I can’t remember what my relationship with her was.

Maybe that’s the root of my troubles.

I tried to ask Garo about the woman, but he said, “It’s better for Sir Nokin not to remember,” and stubbornly refused to answer.

”Sir Nokin, you have a frown on your forehead.”

Terry, my maid, scolded me for being in a bad mood.

She was trying to ease my discomfort by using her body to comfort me while lying on the bed in the dormitory.

 ”Sorry about that.”

”Did you write to Lady Alonsa about what happened? That your memories are coming back?”

Just as Terry said, since coming to the South District and meeting various people, some of my lost memories have started to return.

I was slowly beginning to remember my relationships with Repulus and Bartram, and my interactions with the main members of the ‘Astral Valkyrie.’

”Yeah, I sent a fast horse to let her know. Alonsa is probably worried too.”

”Then, you don’t need to frown. No matter what happened in the past, Sir Nokin is still Sir Nokin. Please return to being the wonderful man you always are──handsome, dignified, and full of grace.”

Terry, lying on the bed, traced her finger over my frown.

It seems I’ve caused her quite a bit of worry.

”Sorry… You’re right, Terry. I can only be myself. Worrying about the past won’t change who I am now…”

I tried to sort out my feelings for Terry and Alonsa, but the swirling, uneasy emotions in my stomach just wouldn’t clear up.

”Today, I will fight against Hendric, the leader of the ‘Golden Apostles’ hunting group. Their team is one of the favorites to win, along with King Kent’s Elite Troops. So, you have to give it your all! I don’t want to see Sir Nokin lose.”

Terry got out of bed and boldly showed her n*ked body before putting on a maid outfit.

Once she finished changing, she took out my clothes and urged me to get up from the bed.

”Ah, I know. I can’t fall behind in battle. That young guy Hendric seems to have a past with me, but if he brings personal matters into the fight, he can’t call himself a warrior. I won’t lose to someone like him!”

Because of Terry, my dark feelings faded away, and a wave of excitement for the upcoming battle began to fill my body.

This is it… I should really only think about fighting.

Even if they call me a battle fool, I feel clearer like I can focus entirely on the intense killing intent around me.

”That look on your face is the Sir Nokin I know. Before you head into battle, let go of any distractions.”

”Yeah. Thanks to Terry, I can concentrate on the fight.”

After Terry helped me put on my battle outfit, I slung my favorite greatsword over my shoulder and headed out of the bedroom toward the arena in the carriage.

* * *

Our match was the first of the day.

The remaining teams were us, King Kent from the Margrave South District, Hendric from ‘Golden Apostles,’ Iska from ‘Rootless Weed,’ and Manon from ‘Black Bullet.’ These 5 teams had already secured the top 5 spots among the Ten Elite Garuda.

But my goal was to claim the top spot, and I had no interest in anything lower than that.

Maybe Kent’s team is the strongest, but Hendric’s team today is also really good.

We could lose if we don’t try.

”Sir Nokin… We have to be serious today. We can’t just play around like last time.”

Geronimo knew how strong the other team was.

 He was ready to fight.

”Lord Geronimo, you’re too worked up. We are 3 strong fighters. We won’t lose. Be confident! Lord Nokin can fight seriously against Hendric.”

”Garo, you’re praising Hendric. Is he that good?”

I asked Garo about before he lost his memory.

He said I trained Hendric and the others.

”Lord Nokin, you’re a natural swordsman. He got his skill from hard work. He always fights monsters and gets stronger every day.”

I got excited about the fight after hearing Garo.

I looked at Hendric and smiled without knowing it.

”Hey! Nokin! Don’t laugh at me! I won’t let you live. I’ll crush you so you can’t even hold a sword!”

Hendric saw me looking at him and got angry.

 He yelled at me.

But I was ready to fight.

His words made me want to fight even more.

”I know. Let’s fight with everything we have!”

Both teams saw us and got ready to fight too.

The place was filled with tension.

”Now, we start the semi-final of the Beast King Martial Arts Tournament! Garuda Principality’s Nokin team versus Golden Apostles’ Hendric team!”

The MC at the venue struck the gong loudly to signal the start.

At the same time, members of the ‘Golden Apostles’ began casting Support Magic on Hendric all at once.

Hendric, surrounded by the colorful lights of Support Magic, activated his Body Enhancement Magic.

Soon, the light around him turned a brilliant gold.

”Sir Nokin! Mr. Hendric is in your hands! Mr. Geronimo and I will take care of the support team, starting with Lakia!”

”Oh! I leave Hendric to you!”

Before I could answer, Garo and Geronimo charged past Hendric, attacking Lakia, who was the vice leader of the hunting group and organizing the rearguard.

Lakia and the others, who were about to support Hendric, got dragged into a chaotic fight thanks to Garo and Geronimo, making it impossible for them to assist.

”I can handle you alone! Die! Nokin Wolffang!”

The golden-glowing Hendric drew his 2 beloved swords and charged at me.

His speed was faster than any warrior I had fought before, and I could barely see him.

Just as I noticed the glint of Hendric’s sword coming towards me, a chill ran through my body.

With murderous intent, Hendric’s sword was aimed precisely at my neck, and by a narrow margin, I managed to swing my greatsword to deflect it.

”Haha! This is interesting! This fight is going to be exciting! Hahaha!”

Overwhelmed by the killing intent, I felt a rush of danger after a long time, and laughter escaped my lips without thinking.

”What are you laughing at! Are you looking down on me!”

With a furious expression, Hendric swung his sword rapidly, sending a [Sword Flash] right at me.

I unleashed a [Great Wave] to counter Hendric’s [Sword Flash].

The Great Wave seemed to swallow up Hendric’s Sword Flash, capturing him.

 ”What!? Is that an afterimage?!”

The shadow that looked like Hendric vanished like mist when the Great Wave touched it.

I couldn’t help but look around in confusion.

”Where are you looking! Nokin Wolffang!!”

Suddenly, Hendric’s voice came from above me.

He was already in the middle of a flying kick aimed at me.

Thinking I wouldn’t make it in time, I instinctively raised my right arm to guard my chin.

His flying kick hit cleanly, producing a nasty crack sound, and a dull pain shot through my right hand.

The pain in my body, after so long, filled my mind with an unfamiliar thrill.

”To think someone could hurt me! The world is so big! This alone makes my participation in this tournament worthwhile!”

I readied my greatsword with my left hand.

Hendric had already landed and was entering his next attack.

I saw his right hand glow, and suddenly, countless sword tips shot toward me, ready to slice.

”Die by my Thousand Swords! Here I goooo!”

I deflected and parried the incoming sword tips with my greatsword, but I was trying to protect my injured right hand.

Soon, it became impossible to defend against everything.

The pressure of the swords grew stronger, cutting through my body.

I could feel my body tearing apart, and blood began to drip onto the arena floor.

 ”Ugh!!”

”You’re weak! Too weak! The Nokin Wolffang I know wouldn’t go down like this!”

Hendric seemed to think the match was over; he stopped his flurry of strikes and approached me to kick me away as I faded into unconsciousness from the blood loss.

Garo and Geronimo were too busy holding back Hendric’s allies to come to my rescue.

”Peh! I haven’t lost yet! Don’t let your guard down, it’ll cost you your life!”

The fighting skills I learned to win, burst out at Hendric, who was sure he would win.

I threw the arena’s sand at Hendric’s face, then slid on the ground and tripped him.

Hendric fell on his butt in a pathetic way.

 ”Ouch! Tch! You bad loser!”

I stood up and stabbed my greatsword into the ground, then swung it at Hendric, who was sitting on his butt.

Along with the shockwave, many pebbles attacked Hendric.

Even though he has magic to increase his defense, I thought Hendric couldn’t avoid damage if he took my big attack at close range.

”How do you like my [Ground Runner]!”

 ”Uaaaagh!”

Hendric, who took [Ground Runner] head-on, was blown away and fell to the ground.

Then, a necklace fell out of Hendric’s armor.

The moment I saw the necklace, I felt memories rising in my brain.

The memory that came up was me giving Freyria the necklace that Hendric was wearing.

I remembered it was the necklace I gave her when we got engaged.

”W-why do you have Freyria’s necklace!!”

I got on top of Hendric, who was rolling on the ground and gasping for breath, and asked him why he had Freyria’s necklace.

”Why?! This is my sister’s memento! I got it as a memento from Freyria Remarque, whom you killed!”

Hendric’s words shocked me so much that my brain went numb.

The memories that had been coming up since I came to the South District connected one after another, and the forgotten memories suddenly flooded my brain.

I was spending my days training in Swordsmanship and Monster Hunting as the former deputy master of the Belholt dojo.

I was engaged to Freyria, the daughter of Belholt, who was also part of the ‘Silver Wolf’ like me, and I had been named the successor of the dojo.

But when Master Belholt got caught up in the Dwade family’s feud and was imprisoned, I started hunting more to plead for his life.

However, the paranoid Lord Dwade ignored our pleas and let Belholt die in prison, then began executing anyone connected to the Remarque family one by one.

Feeling our lives were in danger, we left Abyss Vena under the guise of hunting and headed to Nolans.

But while trying to camp in the Great Forest Nigith, Freyria was killed by an assassin sent by Lord Dwade.
