Volume 2 Chapter 14-2 The Misty Forest
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The deer-like beast let out a roar, swinging its sharp horns as it charged at us.
It moved quickly and forcefully, just like a real deer.
I immediately drew my sword and called out to Lifia.
”Lifia, I’ll hold it back! Take the chance to strike again!”
”Understood!”
I grip my sword with both hands, ready for the deer beast’s rush.
The sharp horns rushing out of the mist are intimidating.
But its movement is fast and simple.
”Ha!”
The moment the beast’s charge gets close enough, I twist my body and swing my sword.
My blade hits the side of its belly, carving a deep wound.
The beast lets out a cry of pain and stops in place.
Lifia quickly starts casting a spell.
”Air Sense!”
The wind blade she releases hits the neck of the beast, delivering the final blow.
The deer-like creature collapses to the ground, motionless.
”Phew… I think I got it.”
”Master, are you hurt?”
”No, I’m fine. Good job, Lifia.”
”Yes! Thank you very much!”
Lifia shows a relieved smile.
Seeing her face, I relax just a little myself.
”But these monsters here are tough. Even one of them gives us so much trouble…”
I mutter while looking over the deer’s body again.
”This isn’t just a normal horn… It might be made of metal or something close to it.”
I gently tap the horn with my sword, and a clear ringing sound, like “Clank,” echoes.
That sound definitely makes it seem like metal.
It’s very likely I can use it as a material.
I think I saw similar materials among the supplies of other adventurers on their way back.
After all, parts from monsters like this probably bring in good money for adventurers.
”Can this horn be broken?”
Lifia nods slightly and begins preparing her Spirit Magic.
”Let’s try. Mooluum, Air Sense.”
Her magic hits the horn directly.
But it bounces off with a loud “Gunk!”
It’s got a wound, but it’s not broken yet.
”No good. Try using Air Impetus.”
”Yes. Mooluum, Air Impetus.”
This time, the gust of wind hits the base of the horn accurately.
With a “Thud” sound, the base of the horn shatters.
”As I thought, focusing on a single point is more powerful with the same number of characters.”
”I see… I learn something new, Master.”
Lifia nods with a serious expression.
It’s cute how she does that.
Checking the broken horn, the cross-section has a mysterious luster, almost like a gemstone.
It might be a unique metal of this world.
I’m curious about what kind of processing it can handle.
Next, I observe the remains of the sword deer.
The muscular build doesn’t look too bad, but I’m not sure if it’s suitable for eating.
Either way, we don’t need the skills to process it or the need to eat it.
It might be unnecessary for us, but maybe adventurers use it as food.
And with that, I gained a level.

The experience efficiency isn’t bad.
Maybe we could level up here for a while.
It could also be good practice for Lifia’s magic.
So, we spent the whole day continuing our sword deer hunt.
* * *
On the evening of the third day, we returned from the Dungeon.
We conquered the first floor on the first day, hunted sword deer on the second floor, and returned the way we came on the third day.
If we use the Love Hotel function, we could go on longer expeditions.
But, I’d rather avoid that.
There’s a limit to how much we can level up by hunting sword deer.
I managed to reach Lv18, but I’ve been stuck ever since.
It seems like we’ve hit a wall with the experience points from sword deer.
There are stronger monsters deeper in, and the experience efficiency would improve, but so would the difficulty.
Plus, I’m just plain tired of it.
Most of all, I miss Tifi.
Even though Lifia is here with me, it’s not the same as seeing Tifi.
As we exit the Dungeon, we, as usual, attract the gaze of the adventurers.
It seems we’re quite the spectacle every time.
Ignoring the attention, we head towards the adventurers’ guild.
As we open the guild door──
”Mr. Taro!”
A loud voice echoes.
Tifi, standing at the reception, greets me with a face full of joy.
She was just talking to a young adventurer, but as soon as she saw me, she waved and ran over.
”Welcome back!”
”I’m back.”
Her voice brought me comfort.
I could feel she was truly happy that I returned safely.
”Did you get hurt?”
”Nah, I’m fine. I made it back without any problems.”
It was a short exchange, but her concern made me happy.
At that moment, the adventurer standing next to Tifi looked back and forth between us, confused, and spoke up.
”M-Ms. Tifi…?”
It seemed he was the one she was talking to.
However, Tifi didn’t seem to care much and gave a small smile as she said,
”Oh, I’m sorry. Well, I look forward to seeing you again.”
The young adventurer stood there, stunned by the abrupt end to their conversation, and then he slumped his shoulders.
After a longing glance, he left the scene.
Watching this, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself.
It was clear that I was special to Tifi compared to other adventurers.
Was he trying to flirt with her?
Sorry, but Tifi is mine.
There’s a beautiful girl welcoming me with a big smile.
Just that makes me feel fulfilled.
We waited for Tifi to finish her work and then entered the Love Hotel together.
After showering, we gathered around a warm meal, enjoying a rare night together.
Tifi said with a soft smile,
”Being together like this, it really calms me down.”
Lifia nodded and smiled at me.
”Yes. I feel safe with Ms. Tifi here.”
After 3 days, we finally get to enjoy ourselves together.
Tonight, I’m going to spoil Tifi a lot.
