Volume 12 Chapter 4 The End Of Gwain Haydon

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”I definitely shouldn’t push too hard.”

I waited in a tent at the back of our formation, looking at the giant castle walls and waiting for the traitor’s movements.

”Your Majesty Yaalan! The cleanup of our spies inside is finished. There should be no more disruptions.”

The soldiers holed up in Kranschtaat were shaken by Lynthia’s betrayal, and their numbers had dwindled to below 2 thousand.

Most of their territory was already lost, and since they couldn’t expect reinforcements from outside, those remaining were like dead men walking.

If we cornered them too much, they might strike back hard.

”Alright, signal the traitor! Once the main gate opens, charge in and capture Gwain!”

 ”Understood.”

Yuri stepped out of the tent and shot a signal arrow with a loud whoosh.

 Whoooosh────!

The arrow flew toward the castle gate with a big noise.

Upon that signal, the flag atop the gate began to wave, and the sounds of clashing swords and angry shouts echoed.

”It’s a traitor!! Lady Lyla has betrayed us!!”

”No!! It was Lady Rhea who betrayed us!!”

The traitors Yuri had coaxed were Rhea and Lyla, the sisters.

Neither of them intended to serve Gwain, and when offered a new master, they readily agreed to betray him.

According to the succubus code, they should obey the master they were contracted to, but a master also had the duty to regularly provide the succubus with semen.

If they failed to do that, betrayal would be allowed.

Gwain had [Sexual Prowess], but it seemed he had little desire, only able to provide a meager amount of semen.

Since Rhea and Lyla only knew of Gwain’s rare [Sexual Prowess], they might have had no choice but to serve him.

The castle was filled with chaos, and soon the main gate creaked open.

 ”Now!! All troops, charge!!”

Under my command, Claude, Denise, and Mild led the soldiers rushing into the main gate.

The sisters Lyla and Rhea, who had opened the gate, knelt before me, offering their swords and bowing their heads.

”It seems that Sir Yaalan will be our master now, sisters.”

”I bet you’ve heard from Yuri, but our previous hierarchy is void. Lyla, Rhea, show me your abilities. If you do, I’ll be nice to you.”

”Haha, I’ll do my best to be of use to Your Majesty.”

I, having taken the two of them under my wing, decided to walk my horse towards the commander’s room where Gwain was said to be holed up.

 *Gwain’s Perspective

”It seems my bad luck is finally over… Calling myself Demon Lord was a mistake… I wasn’t meant to be a Demon Lord…”

For a time, I had the True Demon Dukedom, my original territory, and the newly acquired northern region, gaining a third of the continent.

That was fine, but the rise of Yaalan, son of the Puppet King Rashid, the sudden attack by the Black Serpents’ Daracallia, and the failure of the coup in the Capital City leading to the weakening of the intelligence organization──all these countless mistakes led to my current situation.

”Sir Gwain… Rhea and Lady Lyla have betrayed us. They opened the castle gates with their forces.”

With no possibility of reinforcements and facing only starvation if I stayed here, I had no intention of questioning their betrayal.

After the defeat of Lynthia, who I sent out in a last-ditch effort, and being surrounded by Yaalan, I realized my fate.

”All I have left are the men trapped here… Our allies have been picked off one by one.”

A man in deep robes reported to me with an apologetic tone.

 That man was Sven.

He was a man who had worked tirelessly to make me the Demon Lord.

”I see… You’ve worked hard, Sven. Georgia!! I’ll give you my last order!! Take this sword to my daughter, Miriallia Blackdagger. And tell her to avenge her father!!”

I handed over my beloved sword, a masterwork of Dalmoth’s craftsmanship, to Georgia.

”But I must protect Sir Gwain!!”

”This is a Master Order!!! And after I complete this order, I will be free! You need to find a new master.”

I didn’t plan to let Georgia die.

If I send her to Miriallia, people will think Georgia belongs to Kent.

He’s not the type to abandon a troubled woman, so he would take good care of Georgia.

”Sir Gwain… Let’s run away!! If we beg Lady Miriallia or Sir Arbalest, we might have a chance!”

Georgia was trying to save my life by suggesting an escape, but I had no strength left to do that.

It felt better to die than to bow my head to Miriallia or Arbalest.

”Then, let’s seek protection from Kent Blackdagger!! That man has a strangely sweet nature. If we play our cards right, we could take over…”

Before Georgia suffered defeat in the Gertroud campaign, she was a low-level spy doing dirty work, but after she rescued me during that big loss, she became the woman I cared for the most.

I shook my head silently at her plea.

”Sir Gwain! The enemy soldiers are approaching this room!!”

Sven warned with a face full of urgency.

”Georgia!! Go!! It pains me, but let them know that the Demon Lord’s throne will be passed to Shifa or Kent! I’ll be waiting ahead in the land of the dead!!”

I took the sword from Sven and started attacking the enemy soldiers.

”Sir Gwain… Once I fulfill my mission, I will come to see you!! Until then, please take care of yourself in the land of the dead!!”

Georgia successfully broke the glass of the command room and escaped.

Seeing that, I slashed through the enemy soldier in front of me.

Sven came closer to my side.

”You should escape too. With your skills, you’ll find a good owner.”

”You underestimate me! I said my dream is to make Sir Gwain the Demon Lord!”

Sven dodged the enemy soldier’s attack with Martial Arts, then stabbed his heart, killing him instantly.

”Then, I must wake up from this dream. There’s no way I could become the Demon Lord in this situation!”

The hallway leading to the command room was already filled with enemy soldiers, and Sven’s side had already lost a few men.

”No, let’s have you become a Demon Lord in the land of the dead. Dreams are meant to continue.”

Sven pushed back his hood, revealing his wrinkled face, and laughed wickedly.

At that moment, the enemy soldiers in the hallway fell silent.

A man from the True Demon Clan walked calmly down the corridor.

”This is Your Excellency Gwain. It’s been a while.”

The True Demon Clan man greeted elegantly, but his face showed no sign of relaxation.

”Yaalan, huh? You’re Rashid’s son… I didn’t know you were hiding such competent abilities… So you were acting like an incompetent recluse.”

”I’m older than you, so I was actually a better actor.”

Sven circled behind Yaalan and took out a dagger to stab his heart.

In that instant, a blade shot through Sven’s own heart.

”Did you think a lowly spy like you could touch Sir Yaalan?”

It was Yuri, the previous Demon Lord’s Dream Demon, who stabbed Sven with the Black Dagger.

”Uuuuuuugh!! Yuri!!! Sir Gwain!!! I’m heading out first!!”

Sven fell to the ground, gushing blood from his heart.

Yuri shook the dagger, splattering blood, and kept close to Yaalan.

”Your Excellency Gwain. Have you decided what to do now?”

Yaalan drew his sword and took a steady stance.

I couldn’t help but sigh at his flawless form.

”So you can use a sword, too.”

”Before I shut myself in, I was secretly hunting monsters for my father. So, what did Your Excellency Gwain say?”

 ”My answer is this!!”

I gathered all my force and launched the fastest strike at his neck.

Just as metal clashed, warm blood sprayed from my neck.

”…To counter with your sword… what a skilled user… ugh… but let me tell you one thing. You will never become the Demon Lord. Because that fool Kent will gain great power and surely get in your way! I will laugh at your downfall from the land of the dead!!”

When Yaalan’s sword glimmered again, my consciousness faded away.

 *Yaalan’s Perspective

When I severed Gwain’s head, his body fell heavily into the hallway.

”I have defeated the traitor Gwain Haydon!! This battle is our victory!”

My voice echoed in the hallway, and the soldiers cheered.

Yuri, who stood next to me, stepped closer.

 ”Don’t take Gwain’s nonsense seriously.”

Gwain’s words seeped into my heart like a curse, and with the side effects of [Soul of the Overlord], my heart raced fiercely.

I am the man who should be king of this land… Whether it’s Shifa or Kent, all who get in my way will be crushed.

”I know. The words of the dead hold no value. Now, let’s make his head a nice gift for His Majesty Shifa. It’s the head of a great villain, so make the decoration flashy.”

 ”Understood.”

Yuri leaped to the end of the hallway to collect Gwain’s head.

Thus, the northern fortress city of Kranshtadt returned to my control, and aside from the areas ruled by the Kingdom Retro Brigade, Gwain’s territory fell under True Demon Dukedom’s rule.

By absorbing the noble factions loyal to Gwain and the small lords scattered in the northern region, the dukedom’s direct territory increased by tens of times, dramatically strengthening the authority of the king.

I used my increased power as king to banish the elders who control True DemonDukedom, and I focused all authority over politics, economy, and military into my hands.

Because of this, the idea that the True Demon Clan is the only true ruler effectively ended.
