Volume 3 Chapter 67 The Magic Sword Returns, A New Arsenal
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The last day of staying in Châtillon.
It was noon, just before meeting Priscilla to open the teleportation gate, when Kian arrived at Guy’s private residence with Natra and Rufna.
The sunlight by the sea was dazzling.
The white mansion of Guy and the green courtyard maintained by Lady Fhana shimmered in the reflection, burning the eyes.
With his masked followers behind him, Kian approached Guy and Fhana, Lord Blumer, who were waiting in front of the courtyard tea party space.
Guy was still in his blacksmith’s work clothes.
He had a sooty cloth wrapped around his head, and black stubble peeked through the gaps.
His forehead and cheeks were shiny with grease.
It seemed he had been working in the forge until just now.
Fhana stood right next to her husband, who looked like he might fall over at any moment, and she quickly supported him several times.
Unlike her husband’s rough work clothes from yesterday, the lady was in a luxurious dress with elegant embroidery.
She had a graceful smile on her face, which only froze into a stern look when she had to support Guy suddenly.
Looking at them like this, they seemed like an ordinary noble couple, except for their mismatched bodies.
Kian was not wearing his ‘glasses’ now, but yesterday, in a mischievous mood, he felt like punching himself for committing adultery.
’If you were going to feel guilty, you should have taken off this one before going to see the lady.’
(At that time, I genuinely believed that not eating the meal served on a tray was a man’s shame. There was no way I was going to take you off and exercise self-control.)
’If you got caught, you could just take that seaweed-haired Knight and the guards of this mansion along for the ride. If we all went down, at least one lizard would survive, right?’
(That’s truly the work of a demon. My fault might just lead to the destruction of Châtillon in a single night.)
In that sense, Lady Fhana might indeed be called a beauty who could topple a nation.
”Lord Kian!”
Unaware of Kian’s inner turmoil, the acting lord, who had just finished a long day’s work, greeted him with a beaming smile and open arms.
Kian stood in front of Guy, coming to a stop as he performed the Azrael-style bow.
Natra and Rufna followed his lead from behind.
”Sir Guy. I hope you are well.”
”Hmm. You’re wearing quite the impressive armor. Truly a hero who saves the nation, right?”
”Oh, it’s nothing that grand.”
”Ha ha ha ha ha!”
Guy laughed heartily but seemed to closely inspect Kian’s ‘Silver Ice’ gear.
However, unlike his father, he showed no intention of stripping away the gear, which was essential for an Adventurer’s trade.
Demanding someone to “show” their armor, which is a secret of their life and power, was unthinkable for a noble.
Despite his appearance, Guy was just someone who genuinely respected social rules.
Yet, this ordinary response was a relief for Kian, who was in a weaker position.
He was being treated with respect as an individual, regardless of Kian’s status.
After examining the ‘Silver Ice’ set, the big man turned his gaze back to Kian’s face.
”I’ve heard from Lord Blumer and Priscilla. You are heading to the Izerland fortress, right? Quite busy indeed. Will you take time off once you arrive there?”
”No. After meeting Oswald, I will greet Her Excellency Maribel, and once that’s done, I plan to head straight to East End. As soon as I arrive at East End, I’ll take the next quest.”
If he goes to meet Maribel, he might receive personal requests from the surrounding nobles.
In that case, his return to East End would be delayed.
He would likely wait for Sarah’s Adventurer registration to finish before departing for the quest site.
If not, he would spend his days in East End taking on many Rank 5 extermination quests, tackling them one after the other.
Regardless, he had no plans for a long vacation until he rose to advanced-rank Adventurer.
Guy nodded and said, “I see.”
”I’m really glad I called you this time. It’s rare to find an Adventurer who can solve problems so efficiently. Winning the tournament and subduing the ‘Night Crier’──both were quests that an average Adventurer could hardly even clear.”
”I’m honored, Sir Guy.”
”It seems you’ve found good companions. How is the ‘Night Crier’ that you added to your team?”
”Ms. Priscilla is waiting with her. She’s stable now and won’t attack anyone. From now on, I’ll take her on our adventures and make good use of her until she wears out.”
”That’s fine. If the remains of the ‘Night Crier’ attack anyone outside of Châtillon, I won’t care at all. Use the ‘Night Crier’ as much as you need to rise up.”
”Yes.”
Guy nodded and said to Fhana, “It’s fine. Let go of my arm,” signaling to the guard waiting behind him.
The guards quickly came forward, carrying a large treasure chest.
The big man acting as the lord opened the chest and grabbed a large sword inside, carelessly thrusting it towards Kian.
”Take it. I’ve perfectly repaired the broken ‘Windsong Blade’.”
”…! Thank you!”
Kian’s heart raced with a thump.
He reached out with both hands for the greatsword, which was sheathed in a brown scabbard that Guy had a tight grip on.
Even without getting close, he could hear the whispers of the magic sword.
He could feel the overflowing magic power from inside the scabbard and from the shining silver hilt.
The reliable companion made from the live material of a wind dragon seemed to have fully revived without a doubt.
”Since the sword was broken to the core, almost the entire process had to be redone. Some of the wind dragon’s bone materials were missing, so I used my brother’s teeth and claws to fill in the gaps.”
Guy explained calmly to Kian, who received the sword respectfully.
He told Kian, “Try pulling it out. Check if it feels weird when you shake it,” so Kian moved to the left side of the courtyard.
Standing far apart, everyone watched as Kian drew his sword from its sheath, aiming at the trees surrounding the courtyard.
In an instant, a high-pitched, almost painful scream-like sound burst from the sword, flowing out in torrents.
The silver blade shone brilliantly in the midday sunlight.
The sword’s belly had many holes of different sizes, giving it a rather twisted look.
He used to carry this as part of the ‘Nightshade’ set, but now he wears the heavier ‘Silver Ice’ set.
The greatsword Windsong Blade and the ‘Silver Ice’ set looked really good together, both in looks and vibe.
(Perfect. Windsong Blade looks exactly the same as before it broke. The feeling when you hold it ── the feel when you swing it ── are all just the same. Guy’s blacksmith skill really is unmatched.)
Kian lowered Windsong Blade to his side and poured magic power into it through his gauntlet on the ‘Silver Ice’.
As the magic sword let out a scream, the gauntlet of ‘Silver Ice’ glowed with red magic runes, creating fierce cold air.
Feeling the hot air rise behind him, Kian swung the wind-wrapped magic sword diagonally upward.
There was a loud ripping sound as the air was sliced at super high speed, like tearing apart space.
Fhana and the others watching from behind could be heard murmuring nervously.
Wind swept through the brick-paved ground of the courtyard, and after the sword’s passing, sharp, pale crystals jutted out in waves, just a beat late.
The crystals quickly shattered from the blast and scattered into the air, disappearing.
Kian swung the magic sword through the air a few times with flicks, then sheathed it carefully into his brown scabbard.
”Amazing…”
’With Silver Ice’s ability combined, that magic sword strike is even more deadly. An ordinary opponent would be turned to char before a real fight begins. Or maybe frozen solid.’
(If there were no allies on the plains or around, even a highly skilled enemy would be easy to take down. I had to be careful not to rely too much on my magic sword or ‘Silver Ice’ and let my skills rust.)
Kian returned to his group, responding to ‘glasses’ as Guy went.
Natra praised him, saying, “Well done, Sir Kian,” with a proper bow.
Beside her, Fhana was wide-eyed and speechless.
Blumer and Rufna were silent.
However, Blumer’s dark eyes seemed to grow more cautious.
”How does it feel? Any discomfort?”
Guy asked, his eyes on the Windsong Blade.
”It’s perfect. It feels easier to wield than before. The wind sound is a bit more subdued too.”
”Ah, it’s probably lighter because some of the materials are from Adrian. But the durability should have increased. Let me see… Um, no cracks after swinging it. Good, good. As for the wind sound from the holes, if we can use sound for magic, it’s better to keep the volume down. The loud sound it had before was probably just the old man’s preference. He likes flashy things, but I prefer to cut out the unnecessary. It’s more reasonable.”
”This should make it a bit harder for enemies to notice you when you want to sneak. It might still trigger a reaction from species with good hearing, but it shouldn’t be a problem against humans.”
”Is that so? Even humans use tools to pick up sounds if they’re scouts. Lord Kian, as an adventurer who does covert work, there will be many situations where a single weapon is inconvenient. I plan to pass on the processed materials I received, but if there’s anything you want from my collection, I’ll sell it to you. You’re getting a lot of rewards, right? Being stingy is forbidden.”
”In that case, I would like the mithril saber I used in the tournament.”
”Good. I thought you might say that, so I’ve prepared it.”
Guy said, pointing to one of the treasure chests his guards were carrying.
There, a few days ago, Kian had used a splendidly decorated falchion which now rested, sheathed, in its place.
With a mithril blade, it wouldn’t easily chip or break, and there were a few craftsmen in East End and Izerland fortress who could repair it if needed.
Compared to the Windsong Blade, which would have to be taken back to Guy if broken, it seemed more carefree to use.
”Financially speaking, for Châtillon, it’s a joy to see Lord Kian spending his wealth here. Ideally, we’d like you to extend your stay by another day and lavish your spending in Casino street.”
The gloomy, seaweed-haired knight, Blumer, mumbled these words.
Fhana cast an eager, hopeful glance this way, but Kian quickly shook his head from side to side.
”Unfortunately, I have prior engagements.”
”Is that so? What a pity. If you could stay just one more day, I could have introduced you to a high-paying request.”
”Lord Blumer, what is this high-paying request?”
Guy raised an eyebrow.
Blumer shrugged his shoulders.
”It’s Mr. Boco Halam’s Dacia expedition. That old man, even after being stripped once, still hasn’t given up and is recruiting for another expedition. He’s suffered financial losses due to our mishandling, so as a matter of course, Châtillon must take some responsibility… It’s truly regrettable that we can’t push that old man onto Lord Kian. Heh heh heh…”
”Lord Kian, you shouldn’t accept Boco’s request. He may have money, but it’s a quest that would involve leading the charge into a Griffin’s nest in Dacia. If Boco dies, it would literally be all harm and no benefit.”
”I plan to look for the next personal request in Izerland, so I’m not interested in accepting it at the moment. I will have to decline this time as I have no connection with Mr. Halam.”
”Indeed, that’s good.”
Guy nodded seriously and then changed his tone of voice.
”Next is the work on the ‘Thorn Demon’ materials and the magic tool for the mirror. Personally, I think everything turned out really well. Now, please check it out!”
