Volume 3 Chapter 74 The Witch’s Overly Mischievous Prank II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 [Summary of Previous Chapter]

After finishing the quest in Châtillon, Kian added Sarah to his companions and made up with Serena.

With his new titles of Master Knight, he was ready to restart with a new party tomorrow.

But after a dinner with Maribel, he was hit with sudden sleepiness in the guest room she sent him to.

Unable to resist, he collapsed onto the bed.

Despite ‘glasses’ calling out to him in desperation, Kian clearly fell into an unnatural, magical slumber.

’Hey Kian! Kian! Pull yourself together!’

 ”──!”

He woke up in an instant, his consciousness cut off.

His vision went pitch black, and it felt like only a few seconds had passed.

But recalling past experiences of fainting, he felt a considerable amount of time had passed.

His heart began to pound intensely, as if reborn, and an unknown anxiety swept through his body.

 Bad feeling.

He lost consciousness from an unnatural sleep──.

 Poison?

 A magic attack?

The former probably wouldn’t work, but the latter could easily overpower Kian, who had no magic resistance and hadn’t eaten any magic-canceling food.

And if he was hit with a mind control spell, it would be an emergency.

 ”Ugh…!”

He flailed his arms, searching for something to grasp, and finally caught hold of something small in his fingers, managing to raise his upper body.

Like a puppy struggling up a riverbank.

If someone saw him now, they’d never believe he was the man who defeated Oswald.

 He must look utterly pathetic.

Yet strength returned to his upper body muscles.

His lower body was partly numb but still movable.

 ”…!”

 He shook his head.

 His vision was alarmingly blurry.

 He could barely see anything.

 Just light and colors.

 The brightness was quite intense.

The colors were yellow-green and deep green.

But he couldn’t tell what objects they belonged to.

Kian tried to focus his eyes repeatedly, struggling to bring his blurry vision back to normal.

Damn… What was that, the unnatural sleepiness from before?

 His vision is still blurry.

If the sun is already up, he must have lost consciousness for quite some time.

 ’Kian, pull yourself together!’

”I’m awake now. It’s just my vision that’s blurry.”

In response to the unusually flustered ‘glasses’, he took a deep breath.

Instead of the perfume that filled the room, there was a strong smell of damp grass.

 More confusion and bewilderment.

No matter what, he tried hard to blink repeatedly, hoping to restore his vision.

Slowly, the scene before his eyes became clearer.

 ”…!? What is this…?”

As his vision returned, the first thing that jumped into view were thick, lush trees.

 Next, the blue sky.

Not a single cloud floated in the sky’s azure.

 It was a beautiful day.

 ”────”

(Forest and blue sky. In other words,)

In other words, am I outside?

 Without a doubt, he’s outside.

Not in the room’s bed, nor inside the old Oswald mansion.

His senses returned, and he could feel that what he was touching was not bed sheets but grass filled with moisture.

Kian looked down at his lower body again and finally confirmed that he was on a meadow in front of an unfamiliar forest.

 But he couldn’t understand why.

He had blacked out, but before that, he was sure he was lying on the bed in the room.

There was a hint of magic in the air──

It felt like this place had the atmosphere of the memory world Sarah had created.

Standing up, he looked around again.

The meadow behind him sloped gently, and at the top of the hill, there was a fairytale-like house with a red roof.

The house stood alone, between the yellow-green of the meadow and the blue of the sky.

A small, elegant single-story house that seemed to emphasize the grandeur of the sky.

 There was nothing else.

Apart from the deep green of the forest, the yellow-green of the meadow, and the blue of the sky, all other colors had disappeared from the world.

It was a beautiful scene that felt like a painting, but before he could appreciate it, a sense of loneliness and inexplicable unease surged within him.

He thought, if humanity had died out and he was the only one left, this is what it would feel like.

 Kian looked around carefully.

He asked ‘glasses’, who was in his shirt pocket.

”Where am I? What is happening?”

’I think this is another world. It’s like a dream world. You are in a coma in the real world. Only your mind is here.’

 ”What?”

Kian frowned, watching the bugs flying around the grass.

”This is another world…? And I’m in a coma? Is my body okay?”

’I saw your body in the real world, it’s okay. You will wake up when the poison is gone.’

 ”You can see my body?”

’Yes. This one is in your pocket, on your chest.’

 ”Are there any enemies around?”

His heart went BANG! in his chest.

He felt sweat under his arms in the moment before ‘glasses’ answered.

 ’No.’

”No? That’s crazy. The person who made me sleep probably put poison in me to do something! Wait. You said ‘poison’? Did I get poisoned?”

Kian asked quickly, and ‘glasses’ hesitated a little before speaking.

’Magic to control your mind didn’t work. It doesn’t work on you when you are awake. You absorb it.’

 ”The poison shouldn’t work either.”

’But strong poison takes time to wear off. I think the poison was in the almond rice.’

”What kind of poison can make me, a half-vampire, sleep?”

 ’I don’t know.’

”…Damn it. What a mistake. I wasn’t careful about the poison. It was tasteless and odorless. I have to be careful now…”

’Well, you will have antibodies when the poison is gone. You will be more resistant next time, and the enemy will know how expensive it is to use poison on you.’

”Are you kidding me! If an assassin comes into the room before my body gets better, it’s checkmate. I can’t fight back and I’ll die! I have to wake up soon──”

 ’It’s not a problem.’

 ’Glasses’ continued.

’When you lost consciousness, Rufna noticed it and teleported here with Natra. The check-up is done, and Rufna went back to her place to get the Elixir. Only Natra, who is fully armed, is in the room, but no one in this fortress can easily beat that girl with a powerful magic sword. It’s night now, and even if Oswald comes, she’ll take care of it.’

”…I see. Natra is protecting me.”

He felt like his strength was leaving him because he was relieved.

He knows how strong Natra is.

He felt safe, knowing she would definitely be okay.

(It’s not just feeling safe, but trusting her. I trust Natra more than anyone else. …At first, I just thought she was a convenient familiar.)

’Trust this one more too. I’m always on your side.’

 ”Yeah, I trust you too.”

’Say it with more feeling. That’s just a boring reading.’

Ignoring the angry ‘glasses’, Kian quickly started walking toward a house on the hill.

He was told he would wake up when the poison was gone, but he didn’t want to just sit and wait.

This is a different world created by someone who is an enemy.

The danger is the same whether he is in an open field or in the forest.

So, it’s more efficient to keep changing his position and gather information about the mastermind.

 ’You’ve become really active, you.’

”Not really. I was always like this. ──More than that, help me figure out who poisoned my food. I’ve become quite noticeable in the last 2 months, so I might have made a lot of enemies without realizing it.”

To poison the food, you need to trick or bribe Maribel’s cooks, but only a few people can do that.

And only a few people can get their hands on slow-acting, powerful poison.

The people who might hate him are the Head Magicians who were kicked out, like Natasha, or maybe the apostles of the Nakash family or the Vahid family.

But, they put poison in the food at the party.

So, they must know Kian’s schedule very well to do that.

Can Natasha and the other Witches from Izerland fortress do that?

 Or Azrael’s apostles?

Kian decided to go to the party today at noon.

Before that, he was going to stay at a hotel that Natra got for him.

They got the strong poison and even bribed the cook, but Kian might have said “no” to Maribel’s request.

He could have even teleported to East End today.

There are too many things that are not sure.

They would never do the assassination plan like that.

At least, a warrior monk wouldn’t do something so sloppy.
