Volume 3 Chapter 19 Leave the Magic Book Alone and Move to the New Floor
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
We found a treasure chest in the dungeon.
Inside, there was a book.
The cover had a strange magic circle on it, looking very much like a “spellbook.”
But the book was cursed, and I needed to purify it before I could use it.
”With my skill ‘Love Hotel,’ maybe I can do it…”
With that faint hope, we walked into the Love Hotel.
Before, the laundry service skill had perfectly fixed broken swords and dirty clothes.
So, I thought maybe it could help with this cursed book too.
I opened the menu screen and chose the laundry service option, tapping it.
Then, a small door opened with a sound in one corner of the wall.
Inside was just enough space for a laundry basket.
I gently placed the cursed book inside and closed the door.
Then, I tapped the button that said “Start Laundry Service.”
A clock icon appeared on the screen, counting down the remaining time.
Hmmm?
This is different than usual.
Normally, the laundry service finishes in an instant.
Dirty clothes and broken gear become like new right away.
But this time was different.
It was taking time.
Is the curse that troublesome?
I just watched the clock’s hands move.
I wondered if the purification would succeed, feeling a mix of hope and worry.
I had no choice but to believe in the power of Love Hotel.
Maybe I waited for about 3 minutes.
The clock’s hand completed a full turn, and then a cheerful “pong” sound rang out.
With that sound announcing the completion of the laundry service, we opened the door with excitement.
There, the spellbook shone as if it was brand new.
The black leather cover had a deep luster, and the magic circle drawn on it sparkled.
The metal parts gleamed in beautiful gold.
The eerie atmosphere that once surrounded it vanished completely, making it feel mysterious.
”Lifia, how does it look?”
When I turned to Lifia, she carefully looked at the book.
”It seems fine. Moo-Moo isn’t cautious anymore.”
Lifia’s clear blue eyes looked at me and smiled.
Hearing this, I let out a sigh of relief.
The curse is completely purified, no doubt about it.
As expected from my Love Hotel.
I’m surprised myself, but I can’t help but admire how useful this skill is.
Now, what secrets does this spellbook hold?
I feel my heart race just a little as I take the spellbook in my hands.
I unfasten the belts that bind the spellbook and open the cover.
The spellbook, made as good as new by laundry service, no longer feels old at all.
The black leather cover shines beautifully, and the metal parts sparkle like new.
The luxurious look makes me gasp in awe.
As I flip through the pages, I see complicated ancient characters and detailed magic circles drawn on them.
Each page is filled with mysterious patterns.
”The contents are ancient characters too, huh?”
I mutter with a wry smile.
It’s frustrating that I can’t read it at all, but I can still enjoy the design and atmosphere.
The lines of the magic circles are so intricate, they look like pieces of art.
I show it to Lifia, Tifi, and Kéa, but they all shake their heads.
”This… I can’t read it either.”
”I’m sorry. I don’t understand at all.”
Lifia and Tifi each reply apologetically.
”It’s impossible!”
Kéa answers immediately.
She doesn’t even try to read it.
Tifi continues with a sigh.
”The guild has a dictionary for ancient characters. You can borrow it, but it takes time to decode. I’m not sure how far we can get in a day.”
The next day, we borrowed the ancient character dictionary from the guild and started the decoding work, with Tifi at the center.
Tifi points to the letters in the spellbook and checks the dictionary, confirming the meanings one by one.
”This character… I think it means ‘light.’ And here is ‘magic essence,’ right?”
I can’t help but be impressed by Tifi’s skill.
She expertly uses the ancient character dictionary, carefully decoding each letter.
But still, our progress is slow.
We only managed to decode one small page in an entire day.
I lightly sigh as I pinch the thickness of the spellbook between my fingers.
How many hundreds of pages are there in total?
How long will it take just to translate?
Tifi also smiles awkwardly as she closes the book.
”Translating everything is probably not realistic.”
She tightened her expression and continued speaking.
”And even if we could translate everything, there’s still a problem.”
”There’s more…?”
As I tilted my head, Tifi lightly tapped the spellbook and began to explain.
”You can’t just read the text in a spellbook like this and activate the magic.”
”What do you mean?”
”You have to fully understand the content you decipher and elevate it in your mind as a theory. Just being able to read the words isn’t enough.”
At her words, we exchanged glances.
It’s not only difficult to decipher, but there’s an even higher hurdle to master it.
The book’s title is ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories.’
Maybe it’s a spellbook about light.
It seems I need to understand this.
’Light moves in a straight line and holds infinite power.
Yet, seekers of wisdom, understand well.
Light, unbound by its form, desires to move in a straight line, transcending infinite space,
leaving countless traces.
But that is merely an illusion.
What appears infinite is actually just a finite extension──’
I closed the book with a frown on my forehead.
