Volume 13 Chapter 3 The Cavalry Team’s Activity

The Austronesia forces aren’t getting caught up in the chaos; they’re breaking through the heavy cavalry and seem ready to charge again.
”Rifle cavalry, get ready to fire! Target: Paralyze Spiders. Ammo: Armor-piercing rounds. Fire now!”
The rifle cavalry are targeting the creature that’s spewing out a lot of black mist, shooting their bullets at it.
The Paralyze Spiders that get shot have their legs blown off or their bellies pierced, spewing out even more black mist as they stop moving.
”Light cavalry, charge ahead of the heavy cavalry and finish off the Paralyze Spiders that can’t move.”
As I wave my arm down, the light cavalry regroup and rush forward with their spears again.
The light cavalry charge into the group of Paralyze Spiders, their horse hooves thundering, and they thrust their spears into the dying creatures spurting black mist, then race off one after another.
The group of Paralyze Spiders has already lost control, with some trying to protect the females and others trying to escape, falling into complete disarray without any trying to counterattack.
”Ane! I’ve kept you waiting. This will decide it! Starting the charge!”
With a heavier sound of horse hooves than the light cavalry, Austronesia’s heavy cavalry plunge into the confused group of Paralyze Spiders like an avalanche.
The weakened Paralyze Spiders are pierced one after another by the cavalry lances and die off.
Some try to stab the horses with their poison needles, but the horse armor bounces them off, and they end up getting pierced by the lances instead and die.
The Austronesia forces keep pounding away, annihilating the Paralyze Spiders.
”I guess this fight is over for now. To be able to take down an A-rank monster so easily… Even with His Excellency Kent’s funds improving our equipment, it’s an outcome that wouldn’t be expected from the Kingdom’s army.”
I left Austronesia to deal with the remaining enemies and gave orders to focus on gathering materials and treating the wounded.
We don’t have any army healers, but we’ve been given so many healing items that we can’t use them all, so I’ve told everyone to use them generously on the injured.
Soon enough, Austronesia finished taking out all the paralyzed spiders and joined us here.
”Ane. Big win. This should make Kent happy.”
Austronesia appeared in front of me with a cheerful smile.
I hadn’t said anything before because we were in combat, but her unilateral actions were a violation of military discipline, and ignoring my orders as her superior commander was the same as showing contempt for His Excellency Kent, the one who appointed her.
I gave Austronesia a fierce flick on the forehead as she happily approached.
”Ouch! That hurt, Ane. But I did bring back results, didn’t I?”
”Austronesia, not only did you endanger the heavy cavalry entrusted to you by His Excellency Kent, but you also committed a breach of military discipline by ignoring my orders as your superior commander and challenging the enemy. This behavior is disrespectful to His Excellency Kent, who appointed you as commander, and just bringing back results doesn’t make it okay!”
Austronesia, suddenly flicked, pressed her forehead and looked taken aback.
If I let her off the hook now, military discipline violations might become the norm in future combats.
That’s something I can’t allow as the one in charge of the army.
”Sir Gwain wouldn’t be angry as long as we brought back results. Kent would be happy too, right? Isn’t that right?”
It seems Austronesia doesn’t really know His Excellency Kent’s character; she doesn’t seem to understand how much he hates seeing people die.
”Austronesia. Your Excellency Kent really hates commanders who make people die. Even if he gets lots of wins, if many soldiers die, he won’t praise you. He might even fire you.”
”Is it really? I never heard that. I heard Kent is a great commander, Savior of the Nation. I can’t believe a man like him is afraid of people dying.”
Austronesia looks like she doesn’t believe what I said, she turns to her heavy Cavalry.
The Cavalry nod back like they agree what I said is true about Austronesia.
”Huh?! No way?! Really?”
Austronesia’s face loses color when she learns the truth about Kent.
This military violation almost caused many deaths, even if no one died this time, one wrong move and many could have been killed.
Realizing she disobeyed Kent’s order, her absolute boss and master, Austronesia’s teeth start chattering loudly.
She looks like she understands how reckless her action was.
”Ane… this time, Kent… won’t be told, right?”
Austronesia looks at me with eyes like she’s clinging to something.
If I report this to His Excellency Kent, Austronesia will definitely get some punishment.
But I can’t just lose a Cavalry commander when the layer is already thin, so I decided to hide it for now, at my own discretion.
”If Austronesia promises to stop acting on her own from now on, I won’t report this to His Excellency Kent.”
Austronesia grabs my hand and shows gratitude.
”Ah, thank you! I owe you. I won’t ignore your instructions anymore. Never again.”
When she thanked me with a face that looked like she might cry, I hesitated to scold her any harder.
Her honest nature might be what keeps the battle-hardened Cavalry in line and following orders.
”As long as you understand. Now, let’s do our best to treat the injured. Since there’s a female Paralyze Spider around, there should be a lot of eggs laid nearby. Let’s find them and send them as loot to His Excellency Kent. The eggs of the Paralyze Spider are said to be a powerful aphrodisiac and can sell for a good price to enthusiasts.”
”A, aphrodisiac! We must definitely send that to Kent!”
Austronesia quickly gave orders to her subordinates to search for the eggs.
I also instructed my subordinates to search for the eggs and treat the injured.
Thus, after her first battle with the Margrave South District army, Austronesia never disobeyed orders again.
Later, she would earn more military achievements and rise to the rank of General of the Margrave South District alongside me, but it would take a few more years for her to be called the goddess of the Cavalry.

Features: A large spider about 10 to 15 meters long.
Carnivorous, with venomous fangs that secrete paralysis poison.
Always, one female is surrounded by 5 to 10 males.
Only the males have venomous fangs; the females have an ovipositor instead.
They enter the breeding season from autumn to winter, and during this time, the females become aggressive, often eating the surrounding males for nutrients.
From winter to spring, the females lay a large number of eggs in the ground and die.
From spring to summer, the eggs hatch and start attacking people.
They can only be hunted from this point until winter.
By the way, the eggs are known as a delicacy, but the same goes for the monster, so be careful.
