Volume 4 Chapter 6 The Exile Drama and the Scent of Lemon

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Star of the Dawn, you’re… fired!”

The hero’s words echoed through the Adventurers Guild hall.

Gaedaf, of course, and everyone around him widened their eyes, all confused.

The whole crowd went silent at the hero’s words.

Of course, I couldn’t understand them either.

 ”Huh?”

The only sound in the quiet was Gaedaf’s confused voice.

It’s no surprise he reacted that way.

 Fired?

Who’s got the power to do that?

They’re firing the Gold Rank adventurer party “Star of the Dawn”?

That out-of-nowhere statement made everything go dead quiet.

It was Gaedaf who broke that silence.

”Say fire all you want, but we were hired by the kingdom, not you guys.”

His words sounded gentle, like he was scolding a kid.

Yeah, “Star of the Dawn” was officially hired by the kingdom to help with the hero’s dungeon raid.

The heroes were supposed to train and gain strength under their protection.

And now they call it “fire,” what are they even thinking?

But the boy didn’t want to hear any of that reasoning.

He crossed his arms, tilted his chin up, and spoke like he was already the winner.

”I don’t care. We’re the ones fighting. If we say you’re in the way, then don’t complain.”

The surprise made some adventurers nearby start to chuckle or smirk.

 Are they serious?

”Star of the Dawn” getting in the way?

The heroes need their help, their knowledge, their experience to beat this dungeon.

And now they’re trying to throw that all away?

 Gaedaf shrugged lightly.

”So, you’re saying you don’t need any of our support?”

 ”Exactly!”

The boy puffed out his chest proudly.

”We’re the heroes. We’ll conquer this dungeon on our own, with our own strength!”

A ripple of murmurs spread in the guild.

It wasn’t admiration, but a mix of disbelief and sneers.

”…I see. I get it now.”

 Gaedaf sighed deeply.

 ”Do as you like.”

And then he chuckled through his nose, saying nothing more.

”So, can we just say our job for ‘Star of the Dawn’ is completed?”

Gaedaf turns his gaze to the guild staff.

 ”Uh, y-yes!”

The staff member nods quickly, and Gaedaf smiles in satisfaction.

He firmly claims that they completed the task, not failed it, showing they did nothing wrong.

Such a clever move for a seasoned adventurer; he’s sharp like that.

Meanwhile, the heroes were totally unfazed by this back-and-forth.

 ”Wait a minute.”

A soft yet clear voice rang out.

Looking for the source of the voice, I see a girl who spoke up.

Dressed in a magician’s robe with long black hair tied in pigtails.

She must be one of the heroes, but it’s a face I haven’t seen before.

At least, she wasn’t among the girls I met around town the other day.

 ”What?”

The leader boy frowned, clearly annoyed.

”We can’t figure out the Dungeon by ourselves, so we’re asking Mr. Gaedaf and the others to guide us. People got hurt, you know…”

 ”Hah.”

 The boy shrugs mockingly.

”Those guys messed with our judgment. The injuries happened ’cause they didn’t give us info on the third floor. We don’t need to listen to some old geezer. We’ll do things our way.”

 ”But still…”

”Shut up, ugly! If you’ve got complaints, you can go alone!”

 The sudden insult cuts deep.

The girl instinctively swallows her words.

 ”Yomi, you’re annoying.”

”If you’re useless, at least try to read the room.”

Other girls follow suit, tossing cold words at her.

 ”S-sorry…”

The girl called Yomi looks down and mutters a small apology.

Not one person agreed with her words.

Instead, the boys sneered, and the other girls shot her judging looks.

 ”Hmph.”

The leader boy snickers, then turns away, clearly uninterested.

He starts discussing future plans for their exploration with his teammates.

Watching their exchange, I quietly closed the door.

 ”Really, what are they thinking?”

 ”Seems reckless, doesn’t it?”

”I don’t get it at all!”

Back in the love hotel room, I let out another sigh.

Lifia and Kéa also sat down, looking a bit uneasy.

But for Gaedaf and the others, I bet they felt relieved to be free from a bothersome job.

Their expressions were actually pretty bright.

They seemed like they didn’t want to be involved from the start, but now that the job was done, they were definitely going to collect their reward.

 No damage to their reputation.

 How clever of them.

”Besides, it’s not a bad deal for me either.”

 ”Why’s that?”

Kéa tilted her head, looking curious.

”It’s simple. If the heroes don’t grow stronger, that’s even better for me.”

If their strength doesn’t increase, it just makes things easier for me.

I can keep doing what I like without worrying about the efficiency of our explorations.

In fact, I might end up facing a painful situation again soon.

At least they’ll be pretty far behind from catching up to us.

If they could just retire like this, it’d be even better.

”But that girl, Yomi, right? It’s a bit sad for her.”
