Volume 4 Chapter 7 Dungeon Above All Else

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

That day, we were still exploring the 4th Floor of the dungeon, the “Magic-Draining Snow Mountain.”

The heroes’ problems haven’t been solved yet.

They’re currently getting ready for dungeon diving.

They could probably handle the 2nd Floor without a hitch.

But it’s a whole different story starting from the 3rd Floor.

They’ve already tried challenging the 3rd Floor once, but they had a rough time due to lack of prep.

And yet, they seem determined to keep exploring.

Maybe they’ll do better if they prepare a bit more next time, but there are too many unknowns.

They’re lacking in so many ways.

In skill, in spirit, in everything.

It’s their own fault if they want to rush in and get themselves killed.

But their actions could cause trouble for others.

Tifi, the guild receptionist, is one of those people.

She’s been asked by the castle to keep an eye on these green heroes.

I’d like to at least take some worry off Tifi’s shoulders.

But there’s nothing we can do right now.

As we keep exploring, I silently pray that these heroes won’t cause too much trouble for those around them.

At the end of our long journey, we finally started to see the summit.

We’re almost done with the 4th Floor.

Lifia found it with her detection magic.

A space that looks like the Protector’s Hall, up on the summit.

 We climb the snowy mountain.

Lifia, the blonde, blue-eyed half-elf girl, is dressed in a cute mini-skirt Santa outfit.

Kéa, the red-haired knight with a ponytail, is in full-body tights with a Santa hat.

I’m just in your average Santa suit.

The 3 of us, dressed as Santas, make our way to the summit.

It might look like we’re in costume, but in this floor, this outfit is essential for staying warm.

We fight off waves of monsters as we head for the summit.

Over at the peak, an Ice Titan-like monster, the Avalanche Ogre, is targeting us.

From the snow under our feet, Frostscale monsters, covered in icy scales, attack.

We fight monsters using Lifia’s Spirit Magic, Kéa’s dual wielding, and my sword skills, one after the other.

Each one is a tough opponent, but we can handle them fine now.

Our teamwork is solid, and as long as we don’t let our guard down, no problem.

But the enemies aren’t just monsters.

The whole snowy mountain environment itself is the biggest threat to adventurers.

The freezing cold saps our strength, and the deep snow at our feet slows us down.

When a blizzard hits, it blocks our view and messes with our sense of direction.

These harsh conditions are actually used against us by the monsters, who cunningly attack.

Plus, the snow covering everything is also a problem.

This snow on this floor, called Magic-Draining Snow Mountain, absorbs magic and weakens its power.

So relying on magic makes exploring way harder.

Finding a good rest spot is another tough part.

On this snow mountain, it’s hard to find a proper place to relax even if you’re a good adventurer.

If you can’t adapt to these conditions, no matter how skilled you are, survival gets very tough.

But I’ve got the Love Hotel.

The cold, biting air is blocked by the Santa suit I bought at the Love Hotel.

The snow-covered ground is no problem thanks to my Santa boots.

The hot spring at the Love Hotel also helps a lot.

Warm water reduces the effect of the magic-draining snow.

I can still use Lifia’s Spirit Magic without issue, and both fighting and exploring become way more efficient.

When the blizzard gets fierce, I just hide inside the Love Hotel and rest.

The time might slow down a bit, but that’s okay.

Safety first, always keep moving cautiously.

 No need to rush.

We shouldn’t push forward recklessly and risk our lives.

Even if we’re surrounded by too many monsters, escaping into the Love Hotel works.

The dungeon monsters won’t wait for us to run into the Love Hotel door, even if we run right in front of them.

They look around confused, then eventually give up and scatter away.

Dungeon outside monsters seem dumber than the ones inside.

 It’s strange.

I don’t even know what a dungeon is, what a monster is, or anything really.

When I ask the people of this world, they just say, “That’s how it is.”

Both are things that shouldn’t exist on Earth.

Speaking of things that shouldn’t exist, magic and skills are the same.

Will these questions ever get answered?

Anyway, this skill is insanely useful.

Me with my Love Hotel, and the heroes without one.

That’s probably the biggest difference when exploring dungeons.

I won’t forget to be thankful for the Love Hotel.

Anyway, we’re using the Love Hotel to steadily, step by step, climb toward the summit.

Even in fierce battles with monsters and being attacked by snowstorms inside the dungeon, we’re slowly but surely moving forward.

The mountain peak ahead, that’s the goal of the 4th Floor.

There’s a stairs leading into the 5th Floor dungeon.

We’ve sliced through countless monsters, kept fighting, and finally reached the top of the snowy mountain.

The peak spreads out wide and flat.

It’s clearly different from the treacherous mountain ranges before, an unnaturally perfect space.

Like someone had carefully shaped it, the snow is thin and evenly spread, the wind sounds distant.

 It’s quiet.

Despite being attacked by countless monsters before, there’s not a trace of monsters here.

 It’s like another world.

This must be the Protector’s Hall.

Long ago, a mighty monster protected the stairs to the next floor right here.

About a hundred years back, a brave hero defeated that monster and cleared the way forward.

Since that battle, no monsters have appeared in this space, and it’s become safe.

We’re standing on a place marked by that history.

But no matter how much we look around, there’s no sign of the stairs leading to the next floor.

It should be here… but where?
