Volume 4 Chapter 7-2 Dungeon Above All Else
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Lifia, is there a staircase around here?”
”I’ll give it a look. Mooluum, Ex Vent.”
Magic wind burst from Lifia’s body, spreading out all around.
The soft breeze seemed to have a mind of its own, flowing gently.
The snow under our feet rippled, making tiny whirlpools.
After a moment, Lifia’s expression brightened.
”There it is, over there.”
We moved in the direction Lifia pointed.
But still, all we saw was a vast snowy plain.
”It’s under here. Air Palm.”
A chunk of air shot from Lifia’s palm, striking the ground at our feet with force.
With a poof, snow was blasted away, and white mist danced around us.
As the snow mist cleared, the hard ground beneath the scattered snow came into view.
And there it was, a staircase leading underground.
”Without magic, finding this would’ve been a real pain.”
”Yeah.”
We chuckled to ourselves.
Anyway, we’ve finally conquered the dungeon’s 4th Floor.
From here on out, it’s the 5th Floor.
Very few adventurers have reached this point, and there are almost no records left behind.
Even the Gold Rank party ‘Star of the Dawn’ only checked it out once and didn’t dive into serious exploration.
Going further back, even the hero who defeated the 4th Floor guardian a hundred years ago didn’t break through to the 5th Floor.
So, what lies ahead is truly uncharted territory.
”Stay alert as we move forward.”
”Yes.”
”Understood!”
In the crisp, clear air, we stepped onto the staircase leading underground.
* * *
We carefully descended the hard stone staircase.
The cool air pricked our skin, and only our footsteps echoed quietly.
As we continued down, the staircase suddenly turned back at a certain point, now extending upwards.
Usually, moving between dungeon floors means going deeper.
But now, there was a path leading up.
What’s going on?
Could it be that the dungeon turns back here?
I’d like to think that going up won’t just take us back to the original snowy mountain…
Thinking won’t help, so just keep going.
We started climbing the stairs.
After a while, I feel something weird under my feet.
Not hard stones, but gravel and tiny sand crunching beneath.
It’s sand.
Sand is scattered all over the stairs.
As we go up, more and more sand appears, until it covers the whole surface.
Then, light shines from in front.
The scene at the top of the stairs looks just like… the ocean floor.
Under my feet is a vast desert of sand, and around us, rocks and colorful corals dot the landscape.
Not just the scenery is strange.
Looking up, it’s like the surface of water is spread out above, with sunlight pouring in and waves of light flickering like ripples.
Far off, a school of small fish swims by.
You can also see the shadow of a big fish──makes it feel like you’re underwater.
We’re lost in the enchanting view.
It’s a dungeon deep underground, but it feels totally like an underwater world from the ocean floor.
Of course, we’re not really underwater.
We can breathe normally, no problem.
Light beams like pillars descend from the ceiling through the shimmering water surface, making it feel like we’re really at the ocean’s bottom.
The sand at our feet smells faintly of tide, adding to the otherworldly vibe.
”So this is dungeon 5th Floor, ‘Seafloor of Shadow Waves,’ huh?”
I mutter without thinking.
This is the deepest part of the dungeon where humanity has reached now.
No one knows what’s waiting beyond.
No one knows what monsters are lurking, what traps are waiting.
Right now, I’m at the forefront of adventurers.
The real adventure begins here.
Tension and excitement fill my chest.
