Volume 3 Chapter 83 Joint Battle (Fake)

They walked under a white stone arch, heading towards the salon where Maribel and others were talking.
The lookout used for the salon is next to the old Oswald mansion main building.
Past the arch, there’s a square where soldiers are waiting, and at the very back, a white stone staircase leads to the salon.
Right now, it’s dusk.
The observation deck is lit by the setting sun.
Meanwhile, the square below the stairs is shaded and dim.
Because of the bonfire, the air smells smoky, and the faint blood scent that was there earlier is gone.
But the threat must be getting close now.
It’s better to quickly guide the people in the salon somewhere safe.
”Master Kian. Are you going to join the salon?”
One of the guards who knows them steps closer.
Behind him, several guards are sneaking around to the back of the main building on Liam’s orders.
They surely noticed Owl’s undead soldiers rampaging underground.
They’re probably going to check out what’s going on.
”Plum, tell everyone in the salon to come down from the lookout now. Danger is near.”
”Danger…? Oh, you mean the soldiers of Lord Owl in the basement, right? Things suddenly got noisy… one of our guys is going to check it out now. The cage is sturdy, so I think it’s probably fine.”
”No, it’s something else. The one attacking adventurers in the fortress is coming. That’s why Owl’s undead are all restless.”
”Huh? The thing attacking adventurers──are you talking about that monster? But, that monster only goes after adventurers playing outside at midnight, right?”
”That’s just your guess. Monsters aren’t polite enough to follow a schedule. Just tell your boss to make everyone in the salon step down.”
”Well, I can’t just say that easily──”
”What’s going on?”
Guards standing near the bonfire start gathering, looking uneasy.
The guard glances back and forth at Kian and Plum, frowning.
”Anything wrong, Master Kian?”
”Sir Kian.”
Natra’s voice.
Everyone’s gaze turns to the girl.
Natra looked up at the salon with a serious glare.
”They’re getting close. They’re killing a lot of people and coming this way.”
”Sorry, but I’m coming through.”
”Ahh,” “K-Kian, Lord Kian? What’s going on all of a sudden…?”
He shoved past the guard and pressed on.
He crossed the square laid with square stone tiles and stepped up to the stairs.
The firewood set at the front of the stairs burst into a blast, sending white smoke and ash swirling toward him.
Natra slipped past Kian and began to sprint up the stairs, taking 2 steps at a time.
Kian chased after her.
Guards clattered behind them, following closely.
”Lord Kian, this is troublesome! You need to request permission from Her Excellency!”
”We’re close to the end of the meeting so there’s no line, but you have to follow the rules or it’ll be a problem!”
Ignoring all the criticism, they burst onto the observation deck, where a sparse group of participants stared at Kian and Natra in wide-eyed shock.
Of course, Maribel and Lucretia stood right in the center.
”K-Kian!? What’s happened?”
”Your Excellency, please evacuate the participants from the square below immediately. This place is dangerous!”
”Huh…?”
”Lord Kian, what’s going on all of a sudden?”
Lucretia narrowed her eyes.
The noble participants started to murmur and stir in the back.
Some of the noble ladies were hiding their faces with feather fans while casting oddly dreamy looks at Kian.
At the same time, the male nobles were glaring at Kian and Natra with evident frowns.
A low voice even whispered, “Barbarians.”
But it wasn’t the time to get hung up on their reactions.
”Ms. Lucretia, and guards, hurry and take Your Excellency to the north building! This is going to be a battlefield! Everyone else needs to scatter quickly! That monster is coming this way!”
”Monster!? What do you mean, what’s going on?”
Someone with bad instincts yelled from beyond the setting sun.
Kian didn’t answer, shoving past the guard patrol and walking quickly to Maribel.
But Lucretia and Gao shot warning looks at Kian, stepping in between.
Gao’s gaze was straight-up murderous.
”Lord Kian, stop! Please, stop!”
”You! Showing your true colors now, huh!”
”……”
Loyalty is great and all, but right now, both of them were in the way.
An instant idea of shoving them aside violently flashed, but rough methods weren’t good either.
Kian slipped through the side of Maribel and others, using his back to shield those in the salon, heading toward the short garden that connected to the main building.
(There are screams, and the clang of armor rubbing. Is Eleonora’s Knights fighting? From the strong smell of blood, a good number of dead people seem to have fallen.)
He squints at the fierce orange sunlight shining through the huge fortress wall of the castle.
The silhouette of the old Oswald mansion’s main building is glowing like shadow art in the sunset.
Nearby, a deep low voice rumbles out.
”Unfortunately, that man’s words are correct. ──Everyone, get away from here. A beast with the stench of blood is coming this way.”
”Lord Renaud.”
”……”
Renaud was glaring at the main building, just like Kian.
He roughly snatched the dragon scale shield and mithril hammer offered by his knight subordinate.
The dragon lord’s beard trembled as he raised his voice.
”Anyone who values their life, run! The guard patrols too! But for those brave enough to fight for the princess, draw your crossbows! Don’t use spears! When that thing shows up, surround it, and shoot everything at my signal! Got it? Never get close! If you don’t want to turn into meat, do exactly as I say!”
”What even is happening?”
As Lucretia pushed up her glasses’ bridge──
”────!!”
”…!!..!!”
”It’s coming! Everyone back!!”
A tiny black dot floated in the sunset glow.
In the blink of an eye, it swelled to the size of a fist, its human-like silhouette rising to the surface.
Then, in a single leap, Kian and Renaud both darted backward.
The shadow in the sky, which had been rapidly closing in on them, slammed into the stone platform where they had been standing just moments before with a thunderous boom.
”────!”
The hard ground trembled up and down.
Renaud felt bits of shattered stone scrape past his temple.
Behind them, Natra had swiftly drawn her magic sword, driving its point into the ground.
The stone platform split open, and countless shadow-like thorns shot into the air, shielding the salon’s participants from the rain of debris.
He hadn’t known the magic sword could do that, but thanks to her quick thinking, no one was hurt.
Kian slowly rose to his feet next to Renaud, who was readying his hammer.
”────”
In front of them, through the orange-tinted dust, a colossal figure slowly rose to its full height.
Taller and broader than Renaud, the monster’s shadow was massive.
A low, wild growl echoed briefly through the air.
(What the hell is that…?)
He focuses his eyes.
