Rising Monk V3c83-2

Volume 3 Chapter 83 Joint Battle (Fake)

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Emerging from the thinning dust was a vampire resembling the black gorilla-like creature from the ‘Labyrinth of Roses’ battle.

It might have been a different individual, but it looked identical.

(Red eyes, sharp fangs, a heavily muscled upper body, and thick, sturdy fur. Without a doubt, it was the same creature that the Leanan sídhe had suddenly transformed into. Certainly, the one calling itself ‘Burgkain.’)

”Natra, get Her Excellency to safety.”

”Princess, this way. Lady Lucretia, the gate is no good. If there are still enemies, they’ll pinpoint our location. Guards, form a shield wall and retreat slowly! Everyone, fall back slowly! We must protect the nobles in the salon!”

”Hey, you’re not giving orders here!”

(Good. If Natra’s in charge, the Izerland leaders should be safe for now.)

As the nobles behind him began to scramble away in a panic, Kian drew his Windsong Blade from its sheath on his back.

What a familiar feeling. He thought.

The grip felt like an old friend in his palm.

The magic sword, resurrected and enhanced by Guy’s hand, drew in a gentle breeze from the cavernous holes, producing a clear, layered melody.

 ”────”

The monster standing before him ground the bones in its fingers and extended its black claws.

The talons stretched to about a meter long, hardened, and slowly curved.

A hit from those could easily rip out his heart.

 ”……”

Kian shifted to the left with his magic sword at the ready.

In contrast, Renaud also assumed a lower stance with his hammer, pushing his dragon-scale shield forward and circling to the right.

Come to think of it, despite thinking him simple-minded, Renaud actually fought in a very reasonable manner.

Unlike Kian, Renaud was on guard against the gorilla-like monster──Burgkain──since it was their first encounter.

Knowing that it was a type of vampire, Kian was even more cautious than Renaud.

The vampire had many powerful traits and abilities, launching attacks that were deadly at first sight.

Since they didn’t know the enemy’s intelligence or special abilities, rushing in recklessly was the act of a fool.

Kian aside, the monster and Renaud’s attacks could cause disastrous destruction all around the salon.

The monster seemed to be smart too, sensing their strength and staying wary.

To avoid being pinned down by Kian and Renaud, they were slowly backpedaling along the path of the old Oswald estate’s garden.

Despite its beastly appearance, it moved like it had learned how to fight somewhere.

(But it was being way too cautious for something that charged in. What’s its aim? ──Oh, that’s what.)

It’d break through in a leap.

On the vampire’s black, bristly hair, there was, upon closer inspection, not just blood but also dark sludge stuck to it.

The mix of a beastly odor, blood, and the smell of honey liquor made it hard to tell, but a sewage stench was definitely wafting.

(It was ambushed while it slept in its hiding place.)

The attackers were probably Eleonora’s knights.

Or maybe they had just carelessly wandered into the monster’s territory while investigating.

The monster had been driven from its den, fleeing north while spilling blood to escape Eleonora’s wicked blades.

Hunting is fine, but this was just too thoughtless.

The monster might have been stronger than expected, making it hard to lead it away, but it was still a clumsy display.

”Don’t go forward! Stay back and keep your crossbows ready!”

 Renaud barked.

He said this to the guard team that had returned to the rear.

It seemed they had managed to get the nobles down stairs.

It might be best to wait a few more seconds before starting the fight just to be safe.

 ”────”

The black monster’s red eyes narrowed suddenly.

There was a chance of hypnotic attack, so they quickly looked away, but the vampire’s next move was something completely unexpected.

 ”────────────!!”

 It was a groan.

The black monster suddenly raised its clawed hands to the sky and opened its big mouth wide.

A bright red tongue spilled out, and a low-frequency wave that human ears couldn’t catch rippled out from the observation deck area, echoing across a wide range.

As Kian and Renaud took warning stances, a swarm of bats attracted by the low hum gathered in the sky over the fortress like a rain cloud.

They squeaked loudly and noisy, crossing the dusk sky in a MASSIVE streak.

 The swarm was directed──

Kian could do the same, but if enemies used it, it’d be dangerous.

Given their positioning, he could break the Izerland fortress with a single strike of Windsong Blade, but it will kill all the Servants inside.

They want to avoid a complete destruction, so the best plan is to take control of the bats with Magic Eye.

Just as he was thinking this, loud metallic sounds and screams echoed from downstairs.

 (Owl’s zombie soldiers)

Renaud glances toward the flower bed next to the salon with Kian.

Three shadow figures have just jumped over the beautiful banister, which Oswald painted gold as a hobby, and landed on the observation deck.

 A medium-height, chubby spear soldier.

 A huge shield-bearing warrior.

And finally, a rear guard magician.

All their armor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since they were trapped ── a little dirty but still functioning fine.

The weapons and shields looked like they were taken from the guard troops.

The 3 zombie soldiers stomp through the flower bed recklessly, rushing toward the black vampire.

And for some weird reason, they shielded the vampire on their backs and turned their weapons toward Kian and Renaud.

 ”Oi, tiger kid!”

 ”Huh, what the hell!?”

”Did all the nobodies run from the square!?”

”Yeah! We let ’em all escape!”

 ”Alrighty. Kukukuk…”

Renaud sneered with his mouth pulled up to his ears, showing his fangs.

His skin cracked and turned into red scales.

He looked like he’d grow even bigger, but instead of turning beast-like, he kept his human shape and just covered himself in dragon scales.

The big man’s deep voice boomed as he pointed.

”Hey! I’ll take down that tough-looking guy over there! You play with those 3!”

”No way, I’m fighting the vampire.”

”Like hell! That’s my prey! I’ll rip it apart, burn it, and crush it to bits! GROOOOOOOOOOOOONNNN!!”

 (He’s so loud, this guy.)

Kian gave a sharp pull and his Windsong Blade sang out as he began to walk slowly towards the enemy.

”Understood. But please try not to overly damage the body. We need to confirm what it is with the witches.”

”Don’t order me around! I do what I want, kill how I want! If you’re gonna get in the way of my fun, I’ll kill you too!”

Renaud, transformed into a dragonewt, spun his hammer like a twig and stepped forward beside Kian, his inhuman strength evident.

He bellowed and struck his shield twice with the hammer.

Kian faced the trio of undead Owls.

Renaud took on the black vampire──a creature similar to ‘Burgkain’.

”Guards, don’t move until you’re told! Watch my fight!”

Ignoring the barking Renaud, Kian shifted from his natural gait to a sudden burst of speed, aiming for the magician in front of the vampire.

He intended to fell the magician with the first strike and turn the tide of battle──

 ”Yah…!”

Swift as the wind, Kian slid in front of the magician, his magic sword slicing through the air behind his ear.

The young warrior monk’s deep red, glowing eyes traced twin lines of red afterimages.

 (Yes, that’s it──!)
