Rising Monk V3c84-4

Volume 3 Chapter 84 Joint Battle (Moment)

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”────. Christy, it’s me.”

 ”Lady Christina.”

 Natra’s clear voice cut in.

Natra looked up at Christy with black eyes.

”I might be butting in, but if there are those who are harsh, there are also those who need to be gentle. I learned that from Mom. No matter how great a ruler, they can’t scold and comfort at the same time. If they can’t, the vassals have to share the work.”

 ”Ah…”

 Kian turned to Maribel.

”The monster’s dead body is a shocking sight, so maybe women with weak hearts shouldn’t look. Christy, you should stop.”

 ”Yeah. ──Manon, I’m going! Just…I’ll follow! I don’t know if I can do it.”

 ”Please. Thank you, Christy.”

”It’s okay! Leave it to me!”

Christy slapped her big boobs and started running up the stairs to the salon.

She seemed to be going around the windbreak and going out the back door, trying to get to the front gate first to wait for Eleonora.

Maribel glanced at the black-haired Witch, then changed her voice as if she’d forgotten about her.

”Guard! Over here with the cart! Cover it with cloth before you bring it in!”

”Hmph, you seem to have cut the meat nicely? Huh?”

Renaud, who hadn’t changed his expression until then, looked at Kian and twisted his lips.

 ”Thanks to Lord Renaud’s help.”

”Don’t get me wrong. I just wanted to smash your brains in, taking advantage of the chaos. I didn’t want to cooperate with you at all.”

”Lord Renaud, did you try to harm my lord again?”

”I, always, hate this guy so much I want to kill him!”

 Renaud bared his teeth.

”I would never forget being robbed of that magic sword. I loved to steal, but being stolen from? That was the worst! Princess Maribel, the danger has passed. I’ll take my leave now. I can’t stand to look at Master Knight’s face for even a second.”

 ”Understood. Thank you for today.”

 ”Hmph. ──Hey, Kian,”

Renaud called out, peering down at him.

”Go ahead and lay a hand on my daughter. I’ll make you regret ever being born!”

”Don’t worry. That was just a joke.”

”Not a joke you should laugh at. I will kill you. Definitely. ──I’ll be going now,”

Renaud said with a sneer, then quickly left the square.

Kian went to meet the cart that was being brought over and, along with the guard, pulled it all the way to Maribel’s location.

 Lucretia covered her mouth.

”Ugh, what a stench. It’s thousands of times worse than my family’s cowshed…”

”Guard, please line up around us. Try to keep us out of sight.”

After confirming that the guard had formed a meat wall, Kian took a large gray cloth from Lucretia.

He spread it on the stone floor and then lowered the hairy, mangled corpse of the monster from the cart.

The monster’s flesh was still warm, almost as if the blood inside its muscles was still flowing.

When the sheet covering the body was removed, everyone but Natra winced, but thankfully no one vomited.

The monster was over 3 meters tall, and except for its hands and chest, it was covered in thick beast fur.

Kian’s blade had entered the monster’s right waist and passed through to its left side, completely severing the left arm.

The arm had rolled away, so Natra picked it up and brought it over.

”What… what kind of monster is this?”

Maribel asked, covering her mouth with a handkerchief.

”Burgkain. He’s a vampire said to be destroyed. About 3 months ago, I fought him in the ‘Labyrinth of Roses’. But it seems like this vampire is a fake. During the fight, he didn’t show the ability called Restoration Curse, which rewind and fix body damage.”

”Restoration Curse? It’s different from normal healing, right?”

”No, it’s different. Damage to nerves or bones usually can’t be healed. If you cut off a finger, only the stub swells into a round lump. But Restoration Curse rewinds and restores all damage as if time is turned back. It’s a supernatural──like a curse of time, a special ability.’

’Wall experts are said to fix missing parts, but they can’t bring back a corpse whose brain’s been crushed. But Restoration Curse can do even that. Kian was once torn to pieces by Natra and then resurrected.

’You should learn it quickly too. It’s convenient. The problem is, it makes death feel far away, so you get reckless, but that’s all about your mindset.’

 ”Sir Kian.”

Before he knew it, Natra was crouching right beside him.

She was staring closely at the monster’s left arm she had just picked up.

To be precise, she was looking at the back of his hand.

”This monster’s hand, the skin over the fist’s bones is swelling up.”

”What? ──It’s true. The skin got thicker and turned into a kind of octopus.”

 ”So what if it does?”

One of the guards peered in, raising a suspicious voice.

Kian didn’t know what this octopus thing was either, so he stayed silent. Natra narrowed her eyes and kept talking.

 ”It’s a spit-tastic octopus.”

 ”A spit-tastic octopus?”

”Yeah. After eating something, when you want to make your stomach spit out the contents, you stick your fingers in like this. The teeth hit the back of your hand, and the skin gets hard and turns into an octopus.”

”Why spit out what they ate… that’s such a waste.”

The guard frowned, but then Maribel shook her head and said “No.”

”Nobles often do this. Especially in these borderlands where eating is one of the few pleasures, they say some eat to taste many delicious things, then throw up. There are also those who do it simply because they don’t want to gain weight, or because the act of throwing up itself is just too pleasurable to stop.”

”Oh, now that you mention it, there were kids like that at the Royal Capital’s Academy too.”

 Lucretia raised her hand shyly.

”At first, I was shocked, but at the Academy, you get to enjoy so many delicious delicacies that corsets become tight. In one of the seminars, it seemed like about a quarter of the girls were throwing up in the bathroom after meals.”

”Even a terrifying creature like this cares about her waist size…”

 Kian nodded.

”This monster isn’t just a pure monster. It used to be another intelligent being that transformed. In other words──”

Just as Kian was about to say this vampire was once a noble, he noticed some strange debris stuck on the creature’s furry shoulder.

It was hard to see but a deep blue color and elongated.

It covered the entire shoulder down to the elbow, marked with intricate patterns.

(Is this trash?──No, it’s different. This is)

 ’A tattoo.’

 ’Glasses’ said this thoughtfully.

’Do human nobles really get tattoos like this?’

(Probably not. A tattoo this big is something done by mercenaries or pirates──those kinds of outcasts. Otherwise, it’s used as an obvious marker for criminals. Looking at how worn the throwing-up marks are, it seems they were throwing up regularly until recently──)

”──Your Excellency. This one was likely a former mercenary or a pirate. It’s not easy to see, but there’s a tattoo. Most likely a mercenary. The throwing-up marks suggest they were doing it frequently before battles.”

”Why throw up before a fight?”

”If you get your stomach cut open, the contents mix with your insides, and healing won’t work. If your stomach is empty, there might be a chance for help if a healer is nearby.”

 ”I-I see… so that’s how it is.”

”Plum, after this, please cooperate with the Sunlightland Knight group to investigate this monster’s lair. We might find something that supports our theories.”

 ”Yes”

”Sir Kian, let’s try cutting open this person’s belly”

Natra said, pulling out a dissection knife from her waist.

Kian hesitated to nod, but suddenly he felt Rufna’s magic power coming from the back gate and looked up.

He had sent a letter earlier.

From the faint magic power he sensed, he understood that Sarah and Serena had come along with Rufna too.

 ”Sir Kian?”

”Yeah. Your Excellency, is it okay to do the dissection here?”

”Wait a moment. It will smell horrible, so let’s move everyone somewhere else. Then we can start.”

 ”Got it.”

”Also, contact the Adventurer Guild. Friedrich came today too, so it’s perfect~.”

 Maribel looked over at Lucretia.

”Could you teleport and bring them here? It’s faster than sending a bird.”
