Volume 13 Chapter 15 Prequel To The Black Dragon King’s Trial

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Rosvita’s Perspective

Lady Delprius took down the skeleton dragon guarding the ruins, and that’s how we found the way into the graveyard.

The entrance was hidden real slick, and the place we first thought was the door was a dead end.

But Ludmila found a tiny handle on the wall right next to it, and when she pulled, a hole opened up near the skeleton dragon’s spot, leading underground.

”Seems like this is the real entrance~ I bet the building above is just a decoy~ The big bad behind the skeletons is probably in here.”

Ludmila was peering into the new opening when Lady Delprius went and jumped in, taking the lead.

 ”I’ll go first.”

”Wait, Lady Delprius!! Don’t rush ahead!! Ahh! Wait for us!”

We scrambled after Lady Delprius, who’d already gone into the underground tomb.

The inside of the ruins was a tight space, filled with a musty smell and an unusual amount of mana floating around.

As we moved through the passage, a voice suddenly echoed in my head.

’My descendants, I shall give you a Trial. Face it with all your might. If you do, you shall awaken to new powers.’

A woman’s voice spoke to me, and when I looked around, I saw the other Dragonians looking my way too.

”Did everyone hear that voice just now?”

The Dragonian woman nearby nodded big and clear.

Seems like the voice was talking directly to all of us Dragonians here.

”Rosvita, I don’t have time for Trials. I don’t want any hassle, so I’ll take a shortcut.”

Lady Delprius starts sniffing the musty air in the corridor, then gently knocks on the left wall with her fist.

”There’s a hollow here. Mana’s leaking from the wall, you know.”

”L-Lady Delprius… what are you planning to do…”

Seeing her prepare to take a shortcut, I’m overtaken by a sense of dread and forget to stop her actions.

”What do you think? I’m doing this!”

Lady Delprius takes a fighting stance and launches a straight punch at the wall.

The impact causes the wall to crumble, revealing the adjacent passage perfectly.

”A, aaah… th, this is the sanctuary of the first Black Dragon King, Lord Bendavar… destroying the wall is punishable…”

 ”What noise was that?”

Ludmila, who was behind us, also hears the sound and runs over.

Then, she sees the hole Lady Delprius has made in the wall and is speechless.

”De, Delprius… what do you think you’re doing… this is a sanctuary for the Black Dragon Clan~”

At that moment, the voice echoed in my head again.

’What have you done! How much effort do you think it took to build this sanctuary! The young Black Dragon Clan these days, disregarding their ancestors…! Aaah! I’ll kill impudent descendants like you!’

The voice was also angry at Delprius’s actions and was turning hoarse.

”I don’t know about that. Making skeletons en masse is worse!”

Lady Delprius seems angry at the voice’s owner.

Certainly, this relic that creates skeletons is a nuisance to the nearby residents, but it’s also an important burial place for us Black Dragon Clan members.

”De, Lady Delprius… we should properly undergo the Trial… and not destroy it, pleeease!!!”

Ignoring my attempts to persuade her, Lady Delprius makes another hole in the wall and heads towards the next passage.

”Sniff, sniff, going this way makes the mana thicker. Next is this wall.”

Lady Delprius seemed to be breaking the wall, following the scent of mana.

 I watched her in a half-dazed state.

”Rosvita! This isn’t the time to be spaced out! We have to stop Delprius!”

 ”Ah, right!”

I snapped out of my daze at Ludmila’s words and rushed toward Lady Delprius.

But Lady Delprius slipped away and went through the next corridor.

’Ah! I told you to stop!! There’s a tricky trap I worked hard on down that corridor!! Go through the proper way!!’

It seemed even the ruins’ master never expected her descendant to smash through walls like this; the voice echoing in my head was filled with sorrow.

”Shut up, ancestor. Why must we go through the corridor politely? My father taught me to deal with troublesome things as quickly as possible. Breaking through the wall is the fastest solution.”

Lady Delprius seemed to be practicing the way of thinking her father, Clayd, taught her, and that was the principle behind her reckless behavior this time.

 …That damn combat idiot!!!

What kind of things did you teach Lady Delprius?!

If I find you next time, I’ll definitely kill you!!

Cursing Clayd in my heart, I chased after the rampaging Lady Delprius.

”Lady Delprius! Wait! Please stop the destruction of the graveyard!!!”

Ignoring my plea, she destroyed the next corridor.

Then, it connected to a wide space.

In that wide space, mana was overflowing, and there were heaps of human bones scattered around.

”This looks like a place to mass-produce skeletons.”

Lady Delprius stepped into the wide space, her face twisting at the thick mana, but she walked carelessly toward the center.

”Lady Delprius, please come back! I can’t tell what’s going on!”

Just as I tried to call out and stop her, the scattered human bones on the ground gathered together and transformed into a huge skeleton king.

’I’ll make you pay for desecrating my grave!! I’ll make you suffer worse than death!!’

The giant skeleton king holding a bone changed it into a long sword, and immediately swung it down towards Lady Delprius.

 ”That won’t hit me.”

She dodged the sword by jumping to the side, then amped up her fighting spirit and unleashed an [Air Bullet] at the skeleton king.

The [Air Bullet] that hit the skeleton king didn’t explode; it got absorbed by the black mist.

 ”Damn! It absorbed it!”

’You disrespectful descendant needs a harsh punishment! You better understand what you’ve done!’

The skeleton king swung his sword, unleashing a massive [Sword Flash] towards the bewildered Lady Delprius.

 ”Don’t just stand there!”

Ludmila pushed the stunned Delprius to the ground.

The [Sword Flash] barely scraped Ludmila’s armor.

As the skeleton king continued to attack, I stepped in and unleashed [Dragon Breath].

The [Dragon Breath] I unleashed was also absorbed by the black mist, just like Lady Delprius’s [Air Bullet].

”Ugh, what is that black mist!”

The skeleton king, unfazed by the [Dragon Breath], opened her mouth wide and laughed, her bones rattling.

’Seems like the ones left in the Dukedom without knowing [Black Dragon’s Protection] are really living in peace. Well, can’t be helped since the Dragonia left behind are all young… Then let me teach them Black Dragon’s techniques directly. But they’d better not die without learning it.’

The Skeleton King stopped her hearty laugh, gripped her sword, and started to gather a black mist on the blade.

I had a bad feeling, so I signaled to Ludmila to protect Lady Delprius, and I decided to shield them by transforming into a dragon.

”Lady Delprius, please step back! It seems we’ve made the one we shouldn’t anger… angry.”

”But, if we don’t destroy it here, the skeletons will swarm the town again.”

Lady Delprius tried to stand against the Skeleton King, but Ludmila held her back.

’You noisy bastards. Take this! [Dragon Slash]!!’

As the Skeleton King swung his sword down, the black mist gathered on the blade changed into the shape of a black dragon and flew straight at me.

I tried to counter with [Dragon Breath], but the black dragon just erased it on contact.

I couldn’t let Lady Delprius get caught in this, so I quickly used my body to stop the black dragon.

 ”Ahhhhh!!”

Even though my whole body should’ve been toughened by the Dragon Transformation, a tearing pain ran through me, and I blacked out.

* * *

 *Ludmila’s Perspective

Rosvita, who had transformed into a dragon, was lying unconscious on the ground after taking the black dragon from the Skeleton King.

Rosvita, who should’ve had immense combat power as the current Black Dragon Prince’s right-hand, was rendered combat-incapable by a single strike, despite being in Dragon Transformation.

I never thought that could happen.’

Did we just step into a place we shouldn’t have…?

Cold sweat trickled down my back from the Skeleton King’s terrifying strength.

”Delprius… just run away… We’ll hold her here. At this rate, everyone will become skeletons here.”

I urged Delprius to escape, but she didn’t show any signs of leaving, maybe worried about Rosvita.
