Volume 3 Chapter 90 Surprise Attack Strategy (Abandoned) II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Heh heh heh”
”I’ll kill you.”
He can feel his own eyes behind the ‘glasses’ glowing red with phosphorescence.
His lips, stained a deep red, part to reveal jagged fangs, and the fingers clutching the Windsong Blade end in sharp claws, stretching taut.
He can sense the vampire within him stirring with excitement.
The urge to rip into the man before him, to tear his guts out after splitting him open with his fangs, fills his mind with violent impulses.
”Now, this is where the real fun begins…”
”As you wish.”
He aims the tip of the Windsong Blade at the man.
Kian roughly wipes the blood from his mouth with his shoulder.
* * *
Short-range teleportation.
Halberd techniques using a war mace.
And the shooting of ice spears with telekinesis, earth magic, and heat manipulation magic.
These 3 patterns seem to be the main combat methods of the lich magician.
His handling of the war mace is a faithful execution of the Mercenary King’s halberd technique.
His form is perfect, his attacks precise and heavy.
He’s a masterful user, to say the least.
(And somehow, he can see my attacks coming.)
”Guh!”
”Agh!”
He swings the Windsong Blade upwards from the lower left.
The white light of the war mace spins, knocking the blade aside.
Kian lifts his right heel, and as the sword is deflected overhead, he whirls it around and strikes again, aiming for the man’s ankle with a powerful stomp of his right foot.
The man’s foot leaps back, his body spinning as he jumps into the air.
”Ah…!”
The magic sword, meant to take his head, slices through the air instead.
He pulls the hilt to his left side, readying for a thrust.
He steps in with his left foot and stab.
He steps further with his right foot, thrusting the blade in again.
With his third step in with the left foot, he fakes the stab, pulling the sword’s hilt to the side of his ear, and slows down just enough to take his head.
He does all of this in the span of a second.
”…!”
The lich man gnashes his teeth through the triple strike, but as the final decapitating slash comes, he decides he can’t guard his neck and escapes with a short-range teleportation.
(Futile. There’s no escaping me in my ‘glasses’ state…!)
He chases the magician appearing on the bridge connecting the east and west corridors on the second floor with his red eyes.
Kian crushes the rocky spears jutting from the ground while, at the same time, using the storm created by Windsong Blade to blow away the ice spears raining down from the sky.
”Whoa!”
In response to the lich’s roar, a blazing bookshelf floats up and comes crashing down toward Kian.
He slices it in half and kicks off the ground.
”…!!”
He knocks it down.
Caught off guard by Kian, who charged in through the burning bookshelf, the magician falls onto the first floor, having taken a hit from the war mace.
He slams the back of his head but quickly bounces back up using his body’s spring.
As a result, Kian, who lunges from the bridge like a raptor, barely misses piercing his chest.
Clicking his tongue, he aims to tear the man apart, striking up through the rocky floor in desperation.
”Ugh…”
”What’s wrong? Weren’t you here to kill me?”
He dodged his secret technique, but this man’s speed isn’t that threatening.
Even though he possesses short-range teleportation and incredible brute strength, he falls short in pure speed, responsiveness, attack power, range, defense ability, and recovery ability.
Essentially, as a warrior, his skills overwhelmingly surpass his.
The reason he almost got pushed back from the start is due to his strange movements, as if he could see into the future.
If he continues to unleash unavoidable strikes with overwhelming attack power and range, the opponent would easily find themselves on the defensive.
(Is this all he’s got?)
As the seed cracks, he looks up at the man who escapes calmly to the third-floor corridor using teleportation.
The lich twists his withered lips in annoyance and slams the stone tip in anger.
”……!! Gwaaaah!”
(I understands his thoughts now. Next, he’s planning to teleport and ambush.)
Just as he predicted, the lich appears behind him while swinging his mace back.
Kian bends down, still facing away, and switches his grip on the Windsong Blade to an underhand hold.
The blade sticks to his forearm, with the point jutting out from his elbow.
Kian braced his sword-wielding right hand on the ground and kicked upward with his left foot into the wide-open abdomen of the lich.
The staggering magician bounced his body up and slammed into him back-first.
Then──twisting his body, he plunged the tip of his Windsong Blade, held backward, deep into the gap under the right armpit of the lich’s armor.
The magic sword did more than just gouge a vital point.
It froze the inside in an instant, then shattered it to pieces with a shockwave blast.
A dull thud echoed as frostbitten flesh and blood smoke exploded violently out of the lich’s chest armor.
Complete destruction.
Any human would’ve died instantly.
The upper body had basically blown off like a bomb had gone off.
But this was the lich, king of the undead.
The man barely held his head up on the scraps of flesh left on his left shoulder.
He looked like a weathered statue, crumbling and bizarre.
”Ugh…! Uuuuuuuaaaaaah!”
The man shoved him away with supernatural brute force.
It was a sudden surge of desperate power.
Kian was thrown into a blaze of flaming rubble, and the Windsong Blade clattered to the floor.
”Tch.”
”Cough, uh──ah…”
Crawling free of the burning heat, he grabbed the Windsong Blade.
Meanwhile, the lich staggered backward, clutching his shattered, barely standing body, clearly fatally wounded this time.
”Ugh, ugh…”
His red eyes burned with rage.
Locked on Kian, who was getting up, his gaze practically killed with hatred.
Then, using multiple short-range teleports, the lich shifted toward an air vent on the third floor.
If he followed that vent, he could slip out through some cave in the mountain and escape──
”You running away?”
”Just… pulling back for now. Next time… I’ll take you down. Cough… I’ll prepare like a proper magician.”
”Think I’ll let you?”
Kian sneered, baring his teeth.
Sure, he could turn to mist, but the enemy was a master of short-range teleportation.
If the lich kept teleporting short distances and escaped beyond Spiritual Vein’s range, he could open a teleport gate and slip away to safety.
(I have crush his heart. No matter how exceptional he is as a creature, can he keep teleporting without a single mistake?)
Any hesitation, any loss of balance, and He’ll catch up.
And once he’s within range of ‘Pursuit of the Shadow’s’ attack, it’s over for sure.
He can’t dodge my Secret Technique now.
Kian is mustering a massive amount of magic power within his body while plotting out his jumps.
”If you want to chase me, I don’t mind… but then your beloved Head Magician will die.”
”What did you say?”
The lich raised the corners of his mouth.
