Chapter 130

I’ve decided to change the plan──stay in this town a bit longer.
Once that was settled, Seria and I turned invisible, slipping out the inn’s window and heading for a nearby alley.
After confirming no one was watching, I made only Seria’s magic armor vanish──exposing her──and sent her toward Moonlight Pavilion.
I followed silently in my transparent state, watched her enter the inn, then immediately returned to my room.
I thought the inn staff would come to tell me Seria arrived, but… instead, someone else showed up.
”Huh? You’re saying Lord Gavrett summoned me?”
”Yes. And the call’s early──too early in the morning, almost.”
Seria matched the description I’d given, and since she saw me sneak into the inn through the window, she was let inside without issue.
On top of that, they told me it was a summons from Gavrett’s house, but it seems the inn staff weren’t given many details──just a rough time slot.
It’s probably serious──pulling me here might carry some heavy obligation, but… they’re likely paying the price rather than risking it for free.
If the Viscount just now learned about Ms. Alicia’s recovery, it was only moments ago──so this frantic pace can’t be just about the reward.
Maybe they’re trying to rope me into helping──or ordering──about the person who cursed Ms. Alicia.
But right now, I’m just a bodyguard for Iris in their eyes──completely unaware that Ms. Alicia was cursed.
So, if the Gavretts want to hide her curse, they can’t exactly explain all the details to outside eyes like mine.
Maybe once the matter’s resolved, they’ll try to brush it off, planning to deal with me afterward.
But… if that’s the case, I’ll just deal with it when the time comes.
Either way, tomorrow’s the day I head to Gavrett’s estate.
I made up my mind, had dinner with Seria in my room, prepared for tomorrow, then spent the night… just like that.

Morning the next day.
After breakfast was brought to my room and I tidied myself up, I headed out──no time for anything more than that.
It’s not yet time to visit the lord’s house, so I just killed time without getting too close, waiting until I left the inn.
When it was about time to leave, the inn’s woman informed us of a visitor arriving.
”A guest?”
”Yes. Someone from the Amiras merchant guild.”
They said the proper fee would go through the guild, but I haven’t heard anything about heading to Gavrett House together.
Suspicious of what they want, Seria waits in the room as I head to the inn’s entrance.
And there ── standing there ── was Ms. Marisa, who guided me here yesterday.
”Good morning~”
”Good morning. Is something the matter, Ms. Marisa?”
I ask her about the reason for her visit, and she greets me with her usual smile──she gives an answer that makes sense.
”Maybe it’s better if you’re seen less frequently coming and going from the Gavrett House. So, they asked me to make it look like we’re just conducting business, and deliver you there.”
Ah, I see.
Is the Viscount planning to keep my involvement in Ms. Alicia’s exorcism secret from the outside?
He probably sees me just as a guard, but from the villains’ side──I’m still a clear obstacle.
If they realize I interfered, they might hold a grudge.
If that’s the case, it feels like the Viscount’s just looking out for me ── a subtle gesture of caution.
Well, it’s actually convenient for us, so I’m not complaining.
I tell Ms. Marisa I understand, then head back to my room and have Seria vanish into transparency before we step out of the inn together.
In front of the inn stands a covered carriage, and Ms. Marisa, waiting nearby, gestures for me to follow her to the driver’s seat.
”Here, sit here.”
”Huh… Aren’t there any other members of the guild around?”
”Oh, today’s just about checking in… asking if there are any orders or requests.”
I ask if there are other guild members nearby, and when her answer convinces me, I sit next to her.

When we arrive at Gavrett House, Ms. Marisa, perhaps familiar enough, is easily led inside.
Turns out, she’s close with Ms. Elina ── just like Ms. Hilda.
Well, if the daughters are close, it’s not weird for the parents to be friendly too.
Listening to this at the front door, where I’ve been left waiting…
”Thank you for waiting. I’ll guide you to the Lord’s quarters.”
The female servant led me to the lord’s room.
We reached a set of heavy, double doors──but there’s no sign of what kind of room it is.
Still, guards stand watch, so it’s definitely a noble’s chamber.
Knock, knock.
”We’ve brought him.”
”Come in.”
As I thought, the woman who guided me knocks again, and from inside, Viscount Gavrett responds.
When she hears that, she opens the door.
The moment I step inside, it’s shut right behind me.
Slam.
