Volume 3 Chapter 96 The Swamp Adventure I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Dodging the charge of the lead creature to the right, Kian used the momentum to slice off the head of the second one.
The third lunged with a scythe, but Kian evaded it with a leap, his vision upside-down as he twisted and took the third’s head off in passing.
Just one left.
Upon landing, Kian crouched with all 6 legs on the swampy ground, glowering down at Sword-Cain, ready for the creature’s next move.
If he attacked, it would retreat and dodge.
If he did nothing, it seemed ready to spring and entangle him like a coiled spring.
But Kian was different from any of the victims Sword-Cain had claimed before.
(Secret Technique)
Kian’s body sank down, the muscles in his enlarged, vampiric legs creaking and groaning with the transformation.
Pursuit of the Shadow──.
Launching forward in a straight line, Kian was behind Sword-Cain in a blink, his blade sheathed as he tore up the ground.
A flash of silver split the darkness, cutting through the monster’s back.
”────…”
It couldn’t even scream.
It died without understanding why.
Sword-Cain was cut diagonally from right armpit to left shoulder.
The creature’s upper half, oozing layers of sticky fluid, began to slide down, its left scythe and leg twitching nervelessly before collapsing into the mud.
As Kian dripped with blood, the Windsong Blade let out a joyous laugh.
The red eyes watching from between the trees scattered in all directions.
”Four down.”
’Nicely done. But there’s still room for growth.’
”All there is, is room for growth. Compared to Oswald’s ‘Pursuit of the Shadow,’ my initial speed is drastically lacking.”
’But your effective range is a bit longer.’
”Oswald’s is short and fast.”
’Change the subject.’
”No. I don’t know anything about his… combat abilities, and I don’t want to for the rest of my life.”
The last time he met him, there was something unsettling mixed in the gaze he received from that man.
He’s looking forward to a rematch with Kian.
Kian had a gnawing feeling that if he lost, he’d be violated──a thought that made his skin crawl.
He had to keep getting stronger if he wanted to stay safe and sound.
”The charm didn’t work. Did you mess up the activation?”
Kian flipped over the remains of Sword Cain with his foot while asking ‘glasses.’
’glasses’ immediately denied it.
’No, the charm activated just fine.’
”Then why didn’t it work?”
’Look at Sword Cain’s abdomen.’
Obediently, Kian kicked the remains, turning the abdomen upward.
The belly was layered with armor, a mix of rodent brown and a hint of blue.
At the lower part of the abdomen, something distinctly alien was embedded.
”What is this? A parasite? No, I’ve never seen a parasite like this.”
Kian extended his right hand, sheathed in ‘Silver Ice.’
He felt a squirm as he pierced the belly.
Without hesitation, he dug in and pulled it out.
It was something resembling a massive rose thorn, a deep reddish-purple.
Unlike a typical rose thorn, its base was swollen and bulbous.
”This… it looks familiar. I fought for it as the winning prize in an underground arena on Lord Guy’s request.”
’Isn’t it the seed of the Thorn Demon?’
”Is a Demon near!?”
Kian’s back muscles bristled as he shot to his feet.
Scanning his surroundings, he only saw the usual Cain spawn and black shadows writhing in the misty milkiness.
’Not here. If a Demon recovered, that damn hag would sense it and teleport over.’
”Ms. Aliona isn’t a hag. She looks like she’s in her late twenties, at least.”
’Her actual age is…’
”Ms. Aliona is a goddess. Her real age is irrelevant.”
’It’s her heart that’s the hag. I can’t talk about people, but her hobbies and such… they seem awfully similar to mine, and it’s annoying. Could this be some kind of intra-species hatred?’
”Ms. Aliona is a goddess, and you’re a loli hag. Your attributes are completely different, aren’t they?”
’Who’s a hag!’
”I like you even if you are a hag, Talia.”
’How many times do I have to say it──don’t call me that! Ugh, seriously! Just hurry up and find a victim already. There’s nothing out here but fog and darkness──I’m bored out of my mind!’
”Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Princess.”
Her flustered ‘glasses’ look? Shockingly cute.
Honestly, the girl behind those ‘glasses’ was way cuter than anyone would expect.
He even found himself wishing those long, pale legs would just step right down on his d*ck.
’Y-you pervert!’
”Really, you’ve been like this since day one. You see my d*ck and scream like it’s a horror show──you seriously can’t handle anything even a little risqué, huh?”
’Stop calling me a late-blooming virgin!’
”Hey, I never said that much…but──hold up, found a victim.”
Kian slogged through the sodden marsh, boots squelching.
That’s when he spotted a corpse sprawled beneath the roots of a skinny, dead tree──like it was trying to hide one last time.
Big guy.
White helmet, bare chest, legs sheathed in steel armor.
White fur, a filthy tail poking out at the hip.
Looked like a Beastman──a male, from the build.
”Wolfman, huh? Damn, this is rough. Body’s already pretty far gone…but thanks to the cold, wet swamp air, at least it’s still intact.”
Kian crouched beside the body.
His gaze landed on bite marks carved into the corpse’s torso.
Eight sharp fang marks—four on the neck’s carotid artery, four on the pectoralis major. The corpse was pale and drained of blood, yet the armor bore no traces of it.
Kian noticed the flesh around the wounds was oddly scraped. Scoured by something hard.
’It licked up the spilled blood.’
”A vampire. But neither Sword Cain nor Shield Cain.”
