Volume 4 Chapter 37 Reunion and the Smiles of the Hometown

There’s been a sighting of the ‘Stampede’ in the ‘Shadow Forest’ to the west of the kingdom.
If we don’t act, there’s a chance the town of Saoriba──Tifi’s hometown──could be devastated.
We have to stop it at all costs.
The next morning, after breakfast, Kéa dashes out of the Love Hotel.
And then she’s off, racing towards the town of Saoriba.
”I’m coming!”
Kéa’s all fired up.
She was exhausted yesterday, on the verge of collapse.
But it seems the rest and last night’s ‘reward’ did the trick.
The ‘Love Hotel’ nutritional drink probably helped too.
After seeing Kéa off, Tifi heads to the Adventurers’ Guild for work.
To gather information.
As a guild staffer, Tifi can get the scoop faster and more accurately than the average person.
They’re all working hard.
I need to pull my weight too.
Off to Beckus’s workshop.
To check on the progress of the magic bullets with the two dwarves, Beckus and Nokiroul.
”Ah, Taro, the molds for the bullets are done. We’ve secured enough materials for a few dozen rounds. But processing magic metals is a pain. It takes time, but I guarantee the quality.”
”I’m counting on you.”
”Leave it to us!”
He pays them for extra drinks and leaves the workshop behind.
To stock up on other supplies that might come in handy.
Prepare as much as possible.
Then at noon, Tifi temporarily returns home.
”My request for a short-term transfer was approved. I’ll be working as a temporary staffer at the guild in Saoriba town, or the nearest town to the ‘Shadow Forest’.”
”That went through fast.”
Tifi’s a popular receptionist.
The guild wouldn’t want to send someone, especially a favorite, on a long journey to such a dangerous front line.
”The guild expects to need more staff on the ground. And since I’m from Saoriba, I managed to persuade them to let me go.”
I see.
They’re looking out for me.
”Also, we’re asking many adventurers to head west to deal with the Stampede. And, Mr. Taro, the guild has a request for you. To escort me on my journey.”
Got it.
We can reach the Love Hotel in an instant with its teleportation function.
And taking on the request there──that’s good evaluation for us.
Head to the guild, handle the paperwork.
Accept the Tifi escort request.

Just as the sun begins to dip, the door opens.
Kéa has returned.
”I’m back, everyone!”
She’s not collapsing like yesterday.
Despite the fatigue etched on her face, she walks with a steady, confident step.
”Kéa, welcome home. Glad you’re safe.”
When I speak, Kéa lifts her chin and smiles brightly.
”We’ve arrived in Saoriba town!”
That’s… unbelievable.
A week by carriage, 3 days by messenger hawk ── she’s traveled it in just 2.
Kéa really is incredible.
Tifi rushes over, throws her arms around Kéa, and hugs her tight.
”Thank you so much, Kéa-Kéa…”
”You did well ── you saved us. I owe you,”
I pat her head, and she flashes me a happy, shy smile.
Kéa looks a little embarrassed.
”So──how’s the town? Anything strange?”
I ask, and Kéa pauses to think before speaking.
”Nothing stands out… but it does feel like there are more adventurers around.”
I see.
Nothing major has gone down yet──no ripple effects reaching Saoriba.
Seems like they’re already preparing measures just in case.
This is the second time I’ve stepped into this town, after a few months.
Back then, we came here on a quest as adventurers.
”Let’s head straight to the church!”
Tifi speaks cheerfully.
Her family runs an orphanage attached to the church.
That’s where her parents are.
The priest who raised her, and other children who grew up there alongside her.
”With more people now, is it okay?”
We stayed at the church last time, but now there are more of us.
Kéa and Yomi have joined the team ── 2 more.
”It might get a little cramped, but it should be fine,”
Tifi answers with a bright smile.
That’s settled then.
After leaving the Love Hotel, we walk through Saoriba town toward the church.
The atmosphere in the town──definitely different from before.
A bit on edge, you could say.
Adventurers, of course, but soldiers stand out too.
Must be here for the Stanpeed threat.
Yet Tifi’s steps are light.
Returning to her hometown, her family home──she must be happy.
After walking a while, the church at the edge of town came into view.
Surrounding it were expansive fields, crops swaying in the twilight.
”It’s been about half a year, but it feels nostalgic, doesn’t it?”
Lifia seems a bit cheerful too.
”I’m looking forward to seeing Elder Sister’s hometown!”
”This is my first time seeing a regular person’s house in this world!”
Kéa laughs innocently.
Yomi seems intrigued.
For Yomi, life in this other world is still very fresh.
And to see the daily life of an ordinary citizen firsthand?
A first, no doubt.
”Sorry for dropping in like this all of a sudden.”
Unlike last time, there was no advance notice today.
A surprise visit.
”Don’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s fine. Now, let’s go inside.”
Tifi opens the door with a smile.
”Ah!”
”Big Sister Tifi!?”
”It’s Big Sister Tifi!”
”Sis!”
”What’s wrong?”
