Rising Monk V3c98

Volume 3 Chapter 98 Did I… Like Sarah…?

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 [Character Introduction]

 - Serena Silverwooloo… A Wolfgirl from the Beastmen tribe.

She has short silver hair and light blue eyes.

Her dog ears and fluffy tail are her charms.

 Her senses are razor-sharp.

She’s the daughter of Glen Silverwooloo, a member of the mercenary group ‘Storm Herd’.

She was left behind in the middle of the plains after her older brother was slaughtered by ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User’.

A few days later, she was abandoned by the group.

She started working as an Adventurer after that, and unfortunately, Kian took an interest in her.

He drained her magic through sleep-rape and other means.

Recently, after a fight with Kian, she got beaten up and r*ped again.

 They cut ties.

But after Kian apologized with “I’m sorry for r*ping you,” they made up.

Now, she travels with Kian’s party as a member.

 She’s great at housework.

She’s learning magic from the high elf magician, Aliona.

She has inverted nip**les and no underarm hair.

 She smells really nice.

After Kian shaved her pubic hair during the sleep-r*pe incident, she worries she might go bald in the future.

 - Ninini… A female Cat Beastman serving as a scout for the advanced-rank Adventurer party ‘Lion’s Companion.’

She has black hair and black eyes.

She’s helping Kian to assist her companions, Rean and Vestacia.

She speaks with a heavy accent.

 - Sarah Nakash… A Azraelian woman with black hair, black eyes, and tan skin.

 Her hair reaches her shoulders.

Right now, she’s wearing light warrior armor.

 She’s 27 years old.

She used to be a warrior monk, a bureaucrat, and the Head Magician of Azrael.

She was Kian’s childhood friend and fiancée, but she dumped him due to family pressure.

She’s incredibly proud because of her background, looks, and family name.

She’s a woman who can’t stand men, can’t clean, and has gorilla-like strength, making her completely undesirable.

She seems aware of it and puts on an act in front of others.

 And she has big boobs.

She used to hate vegetables, but she’s learned to endure them lately.

And did I mention? Big boobs.

 - Kian… The protagonist.

A Azraelian with black hair, black eyes, and tan skin.

 A d*ck.

”We gotta plan our route in. For that, we need a bird’s-eye view of the camp and the location where Rean is being held.”

In the corner of the village’s only tavern, at a table for 4.

Kian, Ninini, and Serena lean in close, discussing their next move.

 It’s around 7 o’clock.

Most villagers are off to work, leaving the tavern nearly empty except for Kian and his crew.

There are a few old men scattered around, already drinking since morning.

”Shouldn’t we negotiate with the Barghest to buy back the hostages?”

Serena suggests this, her face buried in food.

Her silver hair and dog ears make her stand out in the village.

To avoid drawing attention and causing trouble, she’s covered herself in a plain black robe.

”Isn’t Barghest that guy who was your old man’s right-hand man-nya?”

Ninini perks up her cat ears.

Despite not sleeping a wink last night, she doesn’t look sleepy at all.

Instead, her pupils are wide, she’s sweating buckets, and her body is twitching non-stop.

She’s clearly tense, and with her drug-like appearance, it’s about time she gets some rest.

 Serena nods.

”Yeah. Barghest is reasonable. He’s someone we can talk to.”

”How many Gold Coins do we need to buy Rean and Vestacia, huh? We can’t even borrow money here; no one trusts us brats-nya!”

”That’s why we negotiate. The Izerland Adventurer Guild will pay for it, they said.”

”Bah! Like the Guild Master is gonna pay up-nya! Adventurers gotta clean up their own messes, right-nya?”

”But, I think it’s reckless to infiltrate. ‘Storm Herd’ is a group of Wolfmen warriors like me. You don’t want to underestimate their senses. They’ll sniff us out, hear us, or detect our magic power easily.”

”──Both of you, calm down for a moment.”

Kian steps between the two, holding out his right hand.

He should have bathed and changed into new clothes – ‘Silver Ice’ stripped down to just the inner layer – but Ninini scrunches her face as if she smells something foul.

”Serena’s plan is a viable option. Considering the client is Guild Master Friedrich, we might be able to get a ransom paid, depending on the Guild’s decision.”

”Right? I think we should report to the Guild Master first. Let’s follow the client’s instructions.”

”But, but what if Vestacia gets sold to some perverted noble while we’re busy talking about negotiations, -nya?!”

”If we send an official document from the Guild, can’t we get the slave market to put a stop to it?”

”Pfft, like it’s any of your business-nya. It’s all about what ‘Storm Herd’ decides! I don’t know what you mean by ‘guest’ or ‘hair test,’ but it’s none of my concern-nya!”

 ”Barghest.”

”Whatever-nya! The ‘law-abiding’ spirit of that Mercenary group is about as trustworthy as bat poop-nya!”

”Ms. Ninini has a point. Negotiating means putting everything on the table. And if we do that, we risk the hostages getting caught in the crossfire. There are too many unknowns to guarantee Rean and the others’ safe return. Besides… once we report to Friedrich, we’ll be forced to abort this quest.”

”Mm. The Guild will take over the negotiations, so we’ve got no choice but to hand it off. But what’s the big deal, Kian?”

”Look at it this way: we’re dumping the worst part on the client and calling it quits. I couldn’t care less about my rep, but you guys might get labeled as quitters from all sides.”

”Reputation’s nothing to me-nya! What matters is… me. I’ve got to save them, no matter what-nya! And I’ll do it with my own 2 hands-nya!”

”Why are you so set on saving them yourself?”

Kian asked, puzzled, and Ninini bit her lip.

”I… left Rean and Vest behind and ran away, all to call for help-nya.”

 ”Yes. That’s what you said.”

”──I wasn’t running ’cause I was scared to die with them-nya. I was running to get help, I kept telling myself-nya. But that was a bigger lie than a bright red apple-nya. I… didn’t want to die-nya. I thought I could get away while they were busy with Rean and Vest. I was gonna sacrifice them and save myself. I abandoned friends I’ve shared everything with since we were kids, just to save my own skin-nya!”

 ”Ms. Ninini…”

”If I give up on them here, I will…”

 ──Be a real piece of trash-nya.

Ninini spat out the words, then bowed her head, staring at the patterns in the desk.

 Kian and Serena exchanged glances.

”Ms. Ninini, you seem exhausted. Please take a nap.”

”Kian’s right. Let’s wait for Ms. Sarah to get back before we decide anything. If she brings some juicy info, we might just magic up a third option that’s smarter than what we’ve got now.”

 ”Mm-nya…”

”Kian, you should grab some shut-eye too. You were up all night fighting, right?”

 ”Yeah, guess I should.”

Since gaining his vampire powers, Kian’s been living a sleepless life.

He still craved women more than sleep, but no way he’s catching any at dawn.

Serena’s right; a quick nap, then we slip out of the village at dusk.

(At the Wolfmen’s camp, there are 3 types of prey: prostitutes, Adventurers, and Wolfmen women. No way I can sneak into the depths of the camp for a Wolfmen woman, but snatching a returning female Adventurer for a quickie is a realistic plan.)

The trio wrapped up their talk and split up.

Serena stayed put at the tavern.

Kian and Ninini found a spot near the village for a nap──morning sleep, technically.

* * *

After an hour’s nap, Kian slipped on his ‘Silver Ice’ armor and focused on recovering his magic power.

Thanks to that, he’s good for a couple more fights in a row with his warrior monk skills.

If he only had a crappy iron sword, he’d have to wrap his warrior monk skill ‘impact’ around the blade to boost his attack power.

With the Windsong Blade, he’s got extra magic power floating around for weapon enhancement.

Strong gear really is the way to go.

Sarah returned to the village as the sky turned red and the crows began to caw.

She found Kian lounging in the middle of the northern meadow, drawing life force from the surrounding plants.

”Sarah, you’re back early. Welcome home.”

He stood up, smiling at Sarah, her Adventurer gear──and her──covered in mud.

Sarah’s eyebrows shot up in anger as she stormed up to Kian, dropping to all 4s right in front of him.

She glared at him, peering straight into his face.

”You really went on that quest, huh? Is that for real?”

”Did Serena tell you? Yeah, it’s true.”

”Why the hell did you go alone?! Ms. Ninini tried to stop you! You ignored her and just charged in? You fought off a horde of Bloodsucking Kind all night?!”

”Whoa, whoa, why are you so pissed, Sarah?”

”I’m pissed because you’re being reckless!”

Sarah shouted right in his face, then pulled back, her face still red with anger.

She sat down, fists clenched tightly in her lap.

”You’ve always done this! Why do you throw yourself into danger like that? No matter how many lives you have, it’s not enough if you keep this up!”

”I get what you’re saying, but I’m not the same as I was. Back then, it was just reckless. Now, there’s a solid plan behind my actions. I fought all night and came back in one piece.”

”Right! You even beat up the Knights of the Sun, didn’t you? Master Knight, the great hero!”

Seeing Sarah still seething, Kian couldn’t help but think of his loyal little familiar, Natra.

She always got this mad at him, too.

Rufna used to joke, “This is why the men can’t stand her,” and Natra would go off on him, turning all that anger on Rufna, leaving Kian to slip away.

 It was their usual routine.

But there was no reliable dark elf shaman here to help him out.

Without Rufna, he was on his own.

 ”Sorry.”
