*Arbalest’s Perspective
The Kingdom Liberation Front, formed by Chancellor Aldo, is set to disband after completing its mission to quell the rebel army.
Stefan Schuwelt, the former general of the Kingdom Retro Brigade, was extradited to the Eastern Garuda Principality as a war criminal due to a secret deal between Nokin and Chancellor Aldo.
Captured Stefan was beheaded by Nokin’s hand, and his head was to be displayed in the capital, Vildestia.
Using Stefan as a scapegoat, Chancellor Aldo further solidified a military alliance with Nokin through a mutual defense treaty, successfully reducing pressure from the east.
And so, the soldiers of the disbanded Kingdom Liberation Front were to be screened; those deemed useful would be integrated into the Kingdom’s army, while those who were not would return to civilian life.
”Seems like we’ve finally got a handle on this year’s budget… Not bad, considering my wallet’s nearly empty. Can’t laugh at Kent anymore, though, not when I’m living off Eclair’s savings.”
I’m currently in my office, jesting with Quenelra over the budget report.
To manage the army’s dire finances, I’ve poured my own Baron Haydon family fortune into it, nearly depleting my personal wealth.
Now, I’m living off the money Eclair has saved up.
I’ve returned my military salary due to financial strain, and without any territories, my income is almost 0.
Kent and Milly send a substantial sum every month, but officially, I can’t accept it, so I’ve been using it to improve the army’s finances.
”Hey, old man, turns into a househusband quick, doesn’t it? A guy shouldn’t be saying such things. You gotta be able to drink on your wife’s money with pride. Hahaha!”
Quenelra, holding the budget report, is laughing heartily.
But recently, it seems his wife, Elza, is pregnant.
After finishing work on time, he rushes home, presses his ear to Elza’s belly, and talks to the baby, acting like a complete doting fool.
His subordinates have been reporting this.
”…Heh, well, I’d say it’s a little better than some idiot who talks to a 3-month-old baby every single night, right?”
Quenelra, his face bright red, argues back when his child is mentioned.
”Damn it! The kid’s fine! I’m teaching him that I’m his father from the moment he’s in Elza’s belly, and I’m already planning to have him reading Western scripts by the time he’s one. He’s going to be a genius, no doubt. My kid, Elza’s kid, he’s destined for greatness. The goal? Kingdom Chancellor, Your Excellency!”
”…You sure are a softie… Well, whatever. If it’s Elza’s kid, he’ll turn out fine.”
”Shut up! If you’re jealous, then go get busy making babies with Eclair. You’re not too old for that, right?”
”…Well, Eclair’s been saying she wants kids, so I’ve been giving it my all every day…”
”The healer said it’s unlikely you’re infertile, right? Eclair was blushing and bragging to me about it.”
Just like Quenelra said, I thought the reason I couldn’t have kids with my ex-wife, Aclea, was because the rough sex we had made me infertile.
But after Eclair urged me to get checked, it turned out my seed was fine.
That very night, Eclair declared she was ready to start trying for a baby, and we’ve been at it every night since.
Eclair may look young, but she’s already in her mid-40s, so she’s definitely feeling the pressure with the biological clock ticking.
”…Mmm… Well, Eclair’s a great wife, so I want to give her at least one child.”
”Ugh, I don’t want to hear your old-man love stories.”
Quenelra covers his face with the report, flapping his hands dismissively.
*Knock knock*
*Click.*
Quenelra and I were chatting when the door to the office banged open.
Eclair stormed in.
She had some kind of letter in her hand… but her face had gone pale.
”S-something’s happened… The report Kent’s people brought──it’s bad. Really bad.”
”Hm? A report from Kent and his crew?”
I took the letter from Eclair’s trembling hands and started reading.
The more I read, the clearer it got──this was bad.
My back broke out in a cold sweat.
”This report… Is it for real?!”
