”It’s from Kent and his group. They wouldn’t send a letter full of lies.”
”What’s this, both of you? Am I some kind of outlaw?”
Quenelra, who seemed out of sorts and unwilling to join the conversation, received the letter from Kent.
As Quenelra read on, his face paled, and his hands began to tremble violently.
”…Old man… This is… serious…”
”It’s a letter from Kent, who’s close to the scene. There’s no mistake.”
The letter said that the Abyss Gate to another world had been opened, and ‘another world monsters’ were pouring in like a mountain.
The details were omitted, but it seemed that the large-scale barrier set up by Arsella Dorman had been destroyed, and the area around the Abyss Gate had merged with another world.
…If those ‘another world monsters’ start popping up everywhere, they could mate with monsters and create a swarm of Beast Monsters…
Beast Monsters grow stronger as they mature, making them harder to defeat.
If they breed in large numbers, it won’t just be a problem for the Margrave South District──it could spell disaster for the entire Demon Continent.
”Hurry, we must report this to His Majesty Shifa… I suspect Chancellor Aldo has already received a similar letter from Kent.”
Just as he began to write the urgent report, another officer burst into the office.
”Commander Arbalest!! It’s an emergency!! We’ve received a report from General Julius Parson, stationed at the border area, that an unusual group of refugees is pouring in from the True Demon Dukedom!”
An officer burst in and shoved a report at me──straight from Julius.
Julius, a promising young noble now guarding the border thanks to our army’s reshuffle, was sticking to his duty.
He kept watch along the line with the True Demon Dukedom, carefully protecting refugees and sending them to our own reconstruction villages.
His report said some refugees didn’t match any known Demon Continent race.
Weird.
Odd features you never see around here.
They talked funny, heavy accent, but we could understand them.
When questioned, they claimed they were from the eastern continent──residents of the Abraham Empire.
Said they’d joined an imperial excavation and colonization mission.
”WHAT?! Eastern continent refugees?! Are you kidding me?! Yaalan’s trying to start another god-demon war?! With the massive border wards Arsella Dorman suffered to build all gone, dragging in those eastern countries will just──don’t they get it? It’ll be just like the first and second god-demon wars, all blood and chaos!”
”Boss… This is seriously bad. We’ve got nothing──no troops, no money──to fight both the ‘otherworld monsters’ and Yaalan at once.”
”No matter what we pick… The kingdom could go under. One wrong choice, and we’re finished.”
The room went heavy and cold──felt like the walls were closing in.
My brain was on fire trying to come up with answers, but every path looked impossible.
Nothing I could call a real plan.
”…My head’s not up to this. We’ll bring in His Majesty Shifa and Chancellor Aldo right away. Eclair, I’m heading to the palace. Get everything ready for me.”
”Ah──yes, got it. I’m on it!”
Eclair bolted from the office to prep the carriage.
”Quenelra──I need numbers. How many soldiers can we gather? How much supply do we have? Find out. Fast.”
”R-right. I’m on it. Leave it to me.”
Quenelra ran off towards his workplace at the Treasury Department.
And so, with 2 letters delivered to the Capital City, a massive shockwave ran through the Kingdom, and everyone was scrambling to handle the fallout.
