Volume 4 Chapter 46 Convergence and a New Spark
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
About an hour later, we were gathered in front of the forest.
There, several adventurers had already assembled for this investigation.
Each of them had well-worn armor and equipment, showing no signs of hesitation in their demeanor.
They must have both the trust and skill to be assigned this investigation by the Guild.
These were seasoned veterans, no doubt about it.
”What!? You!”
Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out.
One of the adventurers, a guy with a bad attitude, reacted when he saw us.
What’s this?
I was wondering when Lifia explained it to me.
”Master, this is the adventurer who approached us before we entered the forest the other day. The one you chased away.”
Ah, that happened, didn’t it?
The guy who tried to hit on Lifia and got a sword to the face from me before running off.
He was boasting about being a Silver Rank or something.
Even someone like that can be a part of the investigation team?
The Adventurers’ Guild seems pretty lenient.
”Wh-Why are you here…!”
The punk shouts.
”Why? Because I was asked to guide the investigation, that’s why.”
”Hah! You’re the guy who ran away because a big monster showed up, right? Dragon Zombie or something, that’s way too sketchy.”
”Ran away…?”
Kéa takes a step forward at his words.
”Milord was scared and ran away, and you’re talking big?”
She says it in a commanding tone.
The punk seems taken aback by her words.
”Ugh… Th-That’s!”
Under Kéa’s golden gaze, the punk takes a step back.
He tries to retort but his legs are clearly weakening.
”Let’s not cause any unnecessary trouble before we set off.”
At that moment, a guy who stands out speaks up.
He has short auburn hair and a heavily scarred, thick armor.
His gaze is as sharp as a wild beast’s.
He seems to be the leader of this investigation team.
”You’re the one who saw the Dragon Zombie, huh?”
”Yeah, nice to meet you.”
I reply, and the man glances over my shoulder at me.
”With that face, you really took on a Dragon Zombie?”
He says it with a mix of astonishment and interest.
Over there, you’ve got Lifia in her mini-skirt maid outfit, and Kéa in her bikini armor.
Just like always, they’re hanging back behind me.
They don’t exactly look like they could hold their own in a fight, you know?
Oh, and Yomi?
Left her at a Love Hotel.
At the scene, there’s a dead necromancer, Neguro, just lying there.
Seeing that might make it hard to keep your cool.
And if the other adventurers catch us looking shook, they might start to suspect something.
”I didn’t do anything. Just ran for my life. Desperately.”
”…Hmph, guess that’s fine.”
Seems like they’ve already got an inkling that we’re hiding something.
Maybe the guild leader’s been filling them in.
After all, we’re the ones controlling a whole flock of demon sardines.
It’s only natural they’d consider the possibility that we took down a dragon zombie.
No big deal, though.
The only thing we really need to keep under wraps is the ‘Love Hotel’ bit.
As for our fighting strength, it’s not a huge deal if it leaks a little.
Tifi’s demon sardines are already known.
In fact, it might be better if they know we’ve got some muscle.
Avoid any unnecessary trouble, you know?
Keep these punk adventurers from getting involved.

After that, a few more soldiers from the army joined us.
Guess they don’t want to leave everything up to the adventurers.
We led the investigation team deeper into the forest.
Our destination was the battlefield where we encountered the dragon zombie and the black robes.
We sprint through the dimly lit forest, where the sun doesn’t reach.
The journey went smoothly.
We did run into some monsters, but they weren’t a big problem.
We took the lead, quickly taking out any monsters that showed up.
Behind us, the adventurers of the investigation team moved skillfully, and our teamwork was solid.
”Guess they’re not just regular Bronze Rank, huh.”
”Tch, why do those guys…”
I could hear an adventurer muttering under his breath after watching our fight.
Mixed in, there was even a sound of someone clicking their tongue, looking amused.
No need to hear it to know who it was.
Before long, we reached the place in question.
There, the bodies of the black robes were lying there, still in their original state.
The traces of yesterday’s battle were still visible, and a faint, miasmic air lingered in the atmosphere.
It wasn’t as messed up as I thought.
No signs of wild beasts or monsters trashing the place.
Guess that dragon zombie’s presence scared off all the other critters around here.
”It really is a dragon zombie…”
”No way…”
Whispers of shock leaked out from everywhere.
Even the punks from earlier were just staring up with their mouths hanging open.
”Who the hell took this thing down?”
”Those Bronze Rank guys?”
”Nah, no way. Are you serious?”
The adventurers looked at each other, totally bewildered.
”But I saw the Silver Shadow Goddess with it!”
”So, *she* prepared the Command Bracelet and the flying monster horde?”
”Impossible…”
The leader yelled, “You lot! Stop jawing and get to work!”
The leader shouted, and the adventurers, though confused, started checking the bodies like pros.
While they did that, we kept watch.
Lifia used her Spirit Magic to sense things, and we stood ready to move.
Suddenly, one of the adventurers lifted the hood of a black robe and gasped.
Everyone around them was shocked.
They realized the person in the black robe was a Demon Race.
”Hey, these guys… they’re Demon Race!”
”So, this rebellion was the work of the Demon Race…”
They also noticed another body, a human, with different equipment.
”This one’s got black hair! A human!”
”Were they in cahoots with the Demon Race?”
”The equipment looks like a spellcaster…”
It was obvious they weren’t a warrior.
Anyone who knew their gear would recognize a necromancer.
And, most importantly, there’s the dragon zombie.
They should be thinking about the possibility of a necromancer.
What’s most striking is the black hair and black eyes, rare in this world.
This human is with the Demon Race.
They wouldn’t be able to figure out who it is here and now.
But once they bring the info back to the guild and report it to the royal castle, the information will be cross-referenced, and they’ll realize it sooner or later.
That the dead necromancer was one of the heroes.
