Fake-Survivor 132

Chapter 132

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

So, I got hired by the Gavrett family as Iris’s bodyguard, and they set up a room for me right next to hers.

I wanted to keep Seria’s existence a secret, but since I’m known as her escort at places like the “Amiras Merchant Guild” and the “Moonlight Pavilion,” I thought it’d be easy for our enemies to find out about her if they did a little digging.

So, I decided to have her live next door to me.

I figured, if we’re gonna do this, it’d be better for her to be employed as a regular servant at the Gavrett house.

That way, she’d be less likely to be targeted by our enemies.

Well, we don’t know how long we’ll be staying at the Gavrett house, and keeping her invisible all the time would cause issues with magical costs and, you know, bathroom breaks.

Actually, there was this one time when Iris and Ms. Elina were with me, and I completely ignored Seria’s signal for the bathroom.

So, I thought it’d be easier on my mind to just make her invisible when necessary.

And that’s the proposal I went with.

As for me, I didn’t mind sharing a room, but… Ms. Elina was against it.

”Come on… we all need our alone time sometimes, right?♡”

 Smack!

From an angle where the Viscount couldn’t see, Ms. Elina gives me a wink that sounds like a sound effect.

What she’s saying seems to respect our private time, but the way she’s acting makes me think it’s just a front.

Is she… planning to “thank” me again?

I don’t think it’ll become a regular thing, but I hope she at least keeps it under wraps.

Well, if I say no, she should take the hint.

I guess I’ll just have to refuse.

 Can I really say no?

When I think about how she’s gotten used to me… oh well, might as well come up with an excuse.

And when I introduced Seria to the Viscount, I made sure to push the idea that she’s just a helper, but also kind of like an adventurer companion.

I insisted that I’m just an ordinary person too.

The Viscount didn’t really push it, but I guess now that Seria’s here, he figures nobody’s gonna mess with Iris.

So, my “I definitely didn’t lay a finger on Iris” wasn’t totally believed.

Not that I can blame them, but, y’know.

I mean, to be fair… I *have* maybe sorta laid a few fingers here and there.

 What can I say.

That’s how Seria and I ended up moving into House Gavrett.

Of course, stuff got weird right from day one.

* * *

”You think you can really guard Lady Irisiera? Fine! I’ll be the judge of that, punk!”

I was just bringing my stuff inside when this guy started picking a fight.

One of the household’s hired soldiers──a big dude called Roga, apparently.

Supposedly, we’re the same age… but standing next to him, I look like a twig.

Put simply: the guy looks tough.

Way tougher than me, at least.

So, of course he’s not thrilled I’m suddenly Iris’s bodyguard.

But hey, shouldn’t you, like, not second-guess your employer’s decisions when that employer is the Viscount?

 That seems bad, right?

I called him on it, and──yep, here’s what he shot back.

”If it’s for Milady’s safety, I gotta do it! Even the Viscount will understand!”

 ”You sure about that…?”

 ”Absolutely!”

He wasn’t budging, just doubled down and demanded I show what I’m made of.

 Great.

”So let’s go! Fight me! You beat me, and I’ll admit you’re worthy to guard our lady!”

 ”Sigh…”

Officially, I’m supposed to be working for House Gavrett as a reward for escorting Iris safely here──that’s the story, anyway.

No way I can just say, “Well, peace out, I’m going home!” right now.

Thing is… I’ve never actually gotten in a serious fight with another person before.

If I use my Magic Armor and screw up, I might end up killing the guy.

 That’d suck.

I mean, sure, I’ve gotten pretty good at controlling my strength with women, but… yeah.

 Never can be too careful.

So I decided to set my own terms for this little “duel.”

”Alright, then──I won’t fight back. If you can land a hit on me, you win. Fair?”

”The hell?! How’re we supposed to know how strong you are if you just stand there?!”

”I was hired ’cause they saw my skills as a bodyguard. So, if they wanna know how good I am at protecting someone, this is it, right?”

”But… against someone who isn’t fighting back, that’s…”

 ”I won’t attack, but I’ll still resist. And… I don’t plan on losing.”

 ”Ho… Alright. Fine by me.”

Roga took my words as a challenge, like “you can’t even scratch me,” and agreed to change the terms of the fight.

And so, we moved to the soldiers’ training grounds to have our little match.

* * *

The training grounds were full of soldiers, obviously.

Roga talked to a guy who looked like a drill instructor.

 ”A match? You’re ignoring Viscount’s orders?”

”I don’t know all the details, but something’s been going on with the Gavrett family for months, right? So, you should be careful about letting outsiders in.”

Roga got the expected questions, but even though he didn’t know about Ms. Alicia, he seemed to sense something was up.

So that’s why they’re wary of me, huh?

The drill instructor seemed to agree with Roga, but he still couldn’t give the okay without the Viscount’s permission.

So, he went to get it.

Then, he came back… and for some reason, he brought the whole Gavrett family with him.

Iris is chill ’cause she knows how strong I am, but Ms. Elina and Ms. Alicia are super interested.

Ms. Alicia especially has this look like she’s expecting something good.

The Viscount’s giving me a hard stare, like he’s gonna see my skills for himself.

”Viscount wants to see this match too, so the permission is granted.”

The drill instructor, who brought the Viscount and others, explained the situation while the other soldiers were all respectful.

Well, I guess the Viscount wants to see my skills since he’s hiring me… but even the ladies are here, too?
