Volume 14 Chapter 16 Demon Continent Summit – Part I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
*Kent’s Perspective
The diplomatic envoys I sent out, they convinced the leaders of each country. The Demon Continent Summit is finally happening.
But, Yaalan is late.
Really late. The summit’s already delayed a week.
The Felward Fortress, they’re fighting off ‘another world monsters’.
The Margrave South District army, and the Monster Hunters, they’re losing people.
Injured, dead.
The reports say the production factories at the another world gate (Abyss Gate) are fixed.
They’re making way more now.
The Black Wing is doing everything they can to slow the enemy.
They’re bombing the factories day and night.
But now, there’s a lot of flying ‘another world monsters’ guarding the Abyss Gate.
Also, near the factories, new ‘another world monsters’ are showing up. They have weapons that shoot magic bullets. The Black Wing can’t get close anymore.
That’s what the reports say.
”Slow! So slow! What’s taking Yaalan so long! They said they’d come in their own carriage, not on a Dragonewt! What are they thinking?”
The other leaders, they agreed to come to the Demon Continent Summit.
They rode here on Dragonewts, the envoys’ dragons.
They got to the Capital City the next day.
But Yaalan, they said no.
They’re coming from Kranshtadt in a carriage.
Now, we can’t start the meeting.
We have to listen to the daily reports about Felward’s problems.
”Mr. Kent, calm down… This is a plan by Yaalan”
The original implies the summit was a long time in the making, and Kent is frustrated about the delay.
In the study room of the Margrave South District’s state mansion, a former palace on the outskirts of the Capital City, it was my mother-in-law who was pestering me as I paced around with Lila.
Since all the forces of the Margrave South District, excluding those maintaining public order, have been gathered at Felward Fortress and Nirei Stronghold, my Hunting Group members, excluding Dee and Flamil who returned from their mission, and Lina, Valentina, Talia, and Miriel, have also flown back to Felward Fortress to continue hunting ‘another world monsters’.
It was truly beginning to resemble an all-out war effort by the nation.
So, the military strength I currently hold in the Capital City, including bureaucrats, is only about 50 people.
”But don’t worry. We’ve managed to get a promise of priority in mineral resource trade agreements and the abolition of tariffs in the metal products sector from the Black Dragon Dukedom’s Nord: Dracul, gaining his tacit approval for our campaign against ‘another world monsters’.”
”It seems that country is currently divided into the Nord faction and the Ugno faction, that is, the bureaucrat faction and the military faction, and they are vying for power under the surface. As a Nord, he probably wants to prevent the war-hungry Ugno faction from gaining influence while securing his own interests.”
As the head of the intelligence agency, Crimson Star, the rapidly maturing Miriel was reporting calmly while wearing the same Margrave South District bureaucrat attire as my mother-in-law──a mini tight skirt and suit.
Although Miriel is a young slime, her adjustment ability, analysis ability, memory, and crisis response ability are highly developed, and she has grown rapidly to the point where even Sebastian, the Dorman family’s butler, and the veteran intelligence officer Georgia take notice.
…Milly, on the other hand, has poor aptitude for intelligence activities and has specialized in combat abilities.
Miriel, conversely, has an aptitude for intelligence activities, but her combat abilities are at an amateur level.
The phrase ‘the right person for the right job’ has profound meaning.
”Will Fabulanova say ‘yes’?”
”It’s almost decided, you know. The last bit… depends on how other countries act. Especially Yaalan. We might not move if they get involved…”
Mother-in-law thinks we’re 90% in on the Black Dragon Dukedom hunt.
But, she’s worried.
Yaalan could change everything.
”Yaalan, huh… The True Demon Kingdom will join, no matter what Yaalan does, right?”
”Yes. They have a deal through Arbalest and Aldo. Your/His Majesty Shifa has already agreed. Up to ten thousand troops. If Yaalan attacks, Arbalest will lead them. Your/His Majesty Shifa himself will probably come too.”
”Good… I’m grateful. I need to thank Father-in-law.”
The True Demon Kingdom army is ready.
But they can’t afford to send ten thousand soldiers.
We offered to pay for everything.
Aldo and Father-in-law Arbalest already knew.
”There’s trouble in the True Demon Kingdom. Sir Aldo is close to Yaalan, but Sir Arbalest hates them. They’re split into 2 groups. One wants to support the Kingdom. The other wants to be friendly with the South District border country. Both want to help Your/His Majesty Shifa and bring back the True Demon Kingdom’s power. But they can’t agree on who to trust. Should they rely on Margrave South District? Or should they go it alone? They aren’t fighting openly, but they’re at each other’s throats. Sir Aldo’s people and Sir Arbalest’s people are even causing trouble in Town/Street, it seems…”
Miriel quickly explained the situation in the True Demon Kingdom.
Aldo and Father-in-law Arbalest had a falling out over Yaalan’s actions when Gwain was defeated, and now the budget is making it worse.
So, the True Demon Kingdom isn’t united…
The True Demon Kingdom, striving to reclaim the continent’s dominion from Shifa’s grasp, is starting to crack from within, it seems.
A dark cloud looms, hinting at an ‘otherworldly monster’ extermination campaign on the horizon.
”Then what about Nokin? If they can fight without bearing the war costs, they’d join us, right?”
Nokin, a nation that calls itself a mercenary state, was supposed to handle the battle expenses.
They would move if offered the right incentives, or so the plan went.
But hope shattered as the report came from Mother-in-law.
”The Eastern Garuda Principality has fallen into dysfunction with Chancellor Alonsa’s resignation. The government isn’t stagnant, but there’s no one to make diplomatic judgments.”
”To add to Lady Lila’s words, it seems Chancellor Alonsa is mentally unstable, almost regressing to a childlike state. Lord Nokin can’t leave her side day and night. He’s currently suppressing a rebel army in the northeast with Lady Alonsa, while Lady Porcha and Lord Bartram are handling the government affairs. But essentially, there’s no one to make real administrative decisions. Lady Hendric seems to be harboring discontent.”
The report from Mother-in-law and Miriel left them aghast at the state of the Eastern Garuda Principality.
Sending Hendric there might have been a mistake…
”…Let’s pull Hendric back. It might be better to put some distance for now. If Alonsa recovers, we should set up another meeting.”
”Understood. I’ll inform Lady Hendric to return to her country.”
”If she doesn’t listen, we’ll have to put her to sleep with sleeping pills and send her back, even if we must.”
Concerning Hendric, there’s a chance she might not comply, so Miriel is given a wide range of options to ensure she returns, by any means necessary.
”I want Alonsa and Nokin to do their best. If possible, I’d like Hendric to fight alongside us… but if that’s no good, then I’ll have Lakia of the King’s Sword take care of it”
”Understood”
As Miriel raised her hand with a swish, the presence (maybe intelligence members) in the ceiling vanished.
Then, the door to the office was thrown open, and Valid, a Diplomat stationed in Capital City, dashed in.
”Sir Kent, Lord Yaalan has finally arrived. His Majesty Shifa requests that you hold the Demon Continent leaders’ meeting immediately”
”He’s here at last! Everyone, prepare at once!!”
I immediately dashed towards the carriage.
