*Nokin’s Perspective
”Alonsa, I knew you were up to something since we arrived. You were preparing to dam the river from the start, huh? And you even have a huge stock of oil…”
Even before the counter-offensive was approved by headquarters, Alonsa had been visiting this place with some soldiers. It seems she started preparing for the operation back then.
”Of course. The moment I saw those ‘another world monster’ here, I knew we couldn’t win without using the terrain to deal with them efficiently. So, I searched and searched… and found this place. I thought it was perfect to be the ‘another world monster’s’ graveyard. Heh heh heh.”
Alonsa’s expression was ice-cold, like when she was called a Killing Strategist. It was a far cry from the childish regression she suffered after her argument with Hendric. Thinking back, my indecisive attitude towards Hendric must have put a lot of mental strain on Alonsa. She went back to her old self after Hendric returned to Margrave South District.
”As expected of my strategist.”
I put my arm around Alonsa’s shoulders, watching the rapid progress of the work to set up positions on the mountains to the left and right.
I love this woman. She’s the brilliant woman who raised me to be a king after I lost my memories and became a cruel man. She’s also my greatest comrade, who fought alongside me. My wife, who loves war and loves to fight. I love my ideal wife more than anything.
Alonsa leaned against me, her voice a whisper in my ear.
”Nokin and I will make history. This battle will be a great victory, one that will be told for generations.”
”With Alonsa and me, those ‘another world monster’ are nothing.”
”That’s right. With Nokin and me, we definitely will.”
Alonsa smiled at me, a dazzling smile I hadn’t seen in ages. I’d only seen her frowning since the Beast King martial arts tournament… I was mesmerized.
”Ugh! Sir Nokin and Lady Alonsa, please keep it down! You can’t set a good example for your subordinates. We’re still in the middle of a war council!”
As I stared at Alonsa, Repulus, sitting beside me, gave me a look, silently urging me to get the council moving.
”Sir Nokin and Lady Alonsa are all lovey-dovey… Ode wants a wife too.”
Geronimo, also at the council, had recently started wanting a wife. He was planning to have a few arranged meetings with daughters of the Garuda Clan nobles, thanks to Head Maid Terry. I’d already given him the position of Captain of the Royal Guard. Marrying into a good family would secure Geronimo’s position. After we win this battle, he’d officially join the nobles.
”Geronimo, I’ll find you a wife when we get back. If you settle down, you’ll put pressure on Repulus and Garo, who are enjoying being single. Terry is working hard on it, so fight hard in this war!!”
”As expected of Sir Nokin!! Ode will do his best!! I’ll get a wife!!”
”Sir Nokin… I’m a man who has dedicated himself to martial arts. A wife now, of all times…”
Garo, also at the council, waved his hand, looking embarrassed. He’s been single for a long time, a true warrior. But I’d heard through Terry that he was close to a young female Soldier in the Royal Guard. I’d already told Terry to arrange a wedding, using my royal authority, when they returned.
”Garo, you do your best too. I’ve prepared a reward for you.”
Just thinking about Garo’s face when he returns to the capital made me grin. Getting my subordinates wives was a “Controlling subordinates” technique I’d learned from Kent. But when it came to actually doing it, I found it incredibly fun to imagine how flustered they would be.
Kent… So you’re the one leading these strange, fun ideas? It’s so enjoyable, I might get addicted.
”Mm! Instead of talking about marriage or whatever, let’s focus on the battle plan first. We’re already building fortifications on the two high mountains──Lady Alonsa gave those instructions. They should be done today. On the left, Lord Garo, and on the right, me──our plan is to station 2 thousand soldiers each. The main camp will be near the dam that’s holding back the water, guarded by Lady Alonsa’s 2 thousand soldiers. Sir Nokin and Geronimo will lead 4 thousand troops to lure the enemy──does that sound good?”
Repulus’s nervousness is almost making him lose focus. A loud voice starts issuing the battle formation.
”Yeah, that setup is fine──just like Lady Alonsa suggested. Repulus, don’t get so worked up.”
”But… the enemy is so powerful… Even with Lady Alonsa’s plan, we can’t be sure we’ll win.”
”Listen, I won’t lose to some bugs or machine things──I’ll cut them down with this sword.”
