Volume 4 Chapter 55-2 Black Hair and the Motel
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Apparently, the horse was bought by a young noble because of its beautiful looks…
And then, when it couldn’t run anymore, it was sold off to a ranch.
So now it can’t be used for regular riding, and it seems it gets casually rented out to new customers.
”That’s a horrible story!”
”Yeah…”
It’s been used and thrown away… I can’t help but feel sorry for him.
I don’t know if the horse understands our words, but it looks kinda sad. Its eyes, hidden behind long lashes, are downcast, and its ears are drooping.
”Don’t worry, Anval. I’m sure Milord will fix you up.”
”I don’t know if I can live up to that expectation…”
Who knows if my motel functions will even work on a living horse?
Even if they don’t, I could at least use a potion or something.
As I pet the horse, it squints its eyes like it’s enjoying it.
”So, your name’s Anval?”
”I just named him!”
Can I really just name a horse I borrowed?
Well, the horse doesn’t seem to mind. Whatever, I guess.
Anyway, this is an experiment.
I open the menu, and I’m shocked. It’s different from before.
’Feeding, watering, brushing, hoof care, stall cleaning, Healthy management’… and more.
Wow, I can take care of a horse too? This is what a ‘Love Hotel’ does, huh?
I tap the ‘Brushing’ button.
A small door opens with a “clack!” sound in the stable wall.
A metal arm with joints extends from it, holding a big brush at the end.
”Whoa!?”
”W-what is this?”
Ignoring our shock, the arm skillfully bends and moves toward the black horse. It starts brushing gently from the neck, to the back, the waist, and the tail──smoothly, like it’s alive.
The horse doesn’t seem annoyed at all. In fact, it squints its eyes, enjoying it, and snorts happily.
”What a skillful hand!”
Kéa watches, impressed by the arm’s brushing technique.
When the task is done, the arm stops completely, retracts back into the wall, and the door closes as if nothing ever happened.
The black horse, done with its work, looked like a completely different creature.
Just a moment ago, it was caked with dirt and sand, its coat tangled with dust. But now, its body gleamed, its black fur shining like silk.
”…You were this beautiful?”
The words slipped out before I could stop them, and the horse twitched its ears in response.
I reached out, brushing my fingers over its neck. The warmth and softness of its coat pressed against my skin.
The horse squinted its eyes, letting out a low, rumbling sound as it snorted softly.
Next, I tapped on ‘Healthy Management.’
The diagnosis results popped up, and one line caught my eye.
’Severe tendon damage in right front leg. Unable to run.’
I couldn’t help but gasp.
Severe tendon damage… if it isn’t treated, this horse will never run at full speed again.
To think it’s been enduring all this… with such a serious injury.
But there was no treatment option on the screen. There were options for ‘Healthy,’ but nothing that directly dealt with treatment.
It seemed clear──this meant I needed to use a potion.
”Lifia, pass me a potion. A high-grade one.”
”Yes, right away.”
Lifia quickly went to the fridge, returned with a potion in hand.
I tapped the ‘Watering’ button. The bucket appeared, and I poured the potion into it. The liquid mixed with the water, shimmering faintly.
”Drink it, please!”
At Kéa’s urging, the horse stepped forward, drinking the mixture quietly.
Its body began to glow softly.
Around the injured leg, a faint ring of light sparkled, then gradually faded.
When I checked the diagnosis again, the injury that had been there before was gone, replaced with the word ‘Healthy.’ I let out a relieved sigh.
The horse stood still for a moment.
Then, it looked down at its leg and began to step lightly.
It seemed to notice the change, moving as if to confirm. It looked… pleased.
”Is it healed?!”
”Yeah, now it can run again.”
At my words, Kéa clenched her hands tightly in front of her chest, a bright smile spreading across her face.
The horse, too, made a joyful noise, then slowly walked toward me. Each step was proud and strong, the weakness it had before completely gone.
Her face was calm, confident.
And she leaned her nose close to my chest, sniffing… as if saying thanks.
The horse looked at Kéa for a moment, then scratched the ground with its front hoof.
What’s that?
”Oh, you want to run right now?”
Kéa’s face lit up quickly, and she smoothly hopped onto the horse.
Sitting tall and straight on the saddle, she looked proud──almost regal.
”Milord, I’ll just go for a quick run with Anval!”
”Ah, y-yeah.”
I opened the shutter──
”Yup!!”
Kéa shouted cheerfully.
The black horse stomped its front legs hard, then pushed off powerfully.
With a bouncing start, it kicked the air and burst forward.
The sleek black body sliced through the wind, tail flicking shiny and black. Its mane gleamed in the sun, bright and red, blowing behind it.
Alone and horse, they ran happily, disappearing into the distance in an instant.
”Honestly, she does whatever she wants…”
Lifia muttered softly, sounding both exasperated and kindly.
Anyway, I think I mostly understand how the ‘motel’ functions now.
Not just carriages, but horses too──didn’t expect that. It probably works for all kinds of vehicles and ways to move.
But we don’t need horses. I can’t imagine a scene we’d use them in.
Well, Kéa and Anval look happy, so I guess it’s fine.
Soon, I’ll figure out how to use the ‘motel’ myself.
