Rising Monk V3c109

Volume 3 Chapter 109 The Death Struggle In The Night Sky

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The head of a Wolfmen warrior flew off, and their body crumpled to the ground.

By then, Kian had vanished again in a mist, reappearing atop the white pavilion──outside the warriors’ encirclement.

A trick using the light of the flickering flames and shadows.

An ordinary warrior might easily lose sight of Kian.

However, the sharp-sensed Wolfmen warriors noticed Kian’s movement to the pavilion roof as if it were natural.

(Can’t get surrounded by multiple enemies on flat ground.)

Kian speared a Wolfmen’s chest with a crossbow, using the corpse as a shield against shots from the ground.

(Somehow, I must keep the fight as close to one-on-one as possible.)

Azrael’s Dance Swordsmanship doesn’t involve taking an enemy’s attack and countering to knock them down. The strategy is to evade and kill before being cut.

Due to this style, aside from the ‘impact’ form that wipes out multiple enemies at once, a wide space to move freely is necessary.

Kian pulled his sword from the corpse and kicked it away, quickly scanning the two new Wolfmen warriors who appeared on the pavilion.

One was readying a shortspear, aiming to thrust down from above.

The other was positioning their spear, targeting Kian’s ankle tendons from behind.

 (Mist Form──)

 ”Ack!”

But then, a flash of silver shot up from the ground, piercing Kian’s right shoulder as he turned into mist.

Why?──He was shocked, but seeing the magic language carved on the silver blade, he understood it must have nullified his form, even if he didn’t know how.

The spear dug deep into Kian’s shoulder as he stumbled, a sharp pain shot through his right ankle, completely throwing off his balance.

He fell from the pavilion to the ground, focusing on healing his ankle.

Gasping heavily, he looked at the spear buried near his heart.

The spear shaft was made of iron.

 The wound burned hot.

If it had pierced just a few more centimeters, it would have hit his heart.

His left arm hung limply, no longer useful.

’Kian, surrender! If you keep fighting like this──’

(Stay quiet. Not yet time to panic.)

He swung his falchion in his right hand, warning the nearby soldiers.

The enemy seemed cautious after seeing Kian’s skill earlier.

He dodged a soldier who jumped down from the tent with a spear.

Kept his stance low, crawling under the soldiers’ feet and slipping in close.

From there, he grabbed the magic “thread” wrapped around a support post sticking out from the tent roof.

He pulled it, launching himself into the sky.

The crossbowmen and magician, already expecting this move, aimed carefully and shot at where Kian would land.

Kian flipped his ‘Nightshade’ coat, bristling like a hedgehog, and endured the attack.

 He absorbed the magic attacks.

 (Wing Cain!)

His loyal familiar dove steeply downward.

They slipped through the web-like barrier, transforming into spindle-shaped bullets.

One of the 3 was shot down by a magician reacting super-fast.

When Kian extended his ‘thread’ higher into the sky to escape, the second hedgehog-shaped barrier burst apart, shielding him from crossbow bolts.

(The arrows are carved with complicated magic language. If pierced, they explode into a blast. Thank goodness this ‘Nightshade’ absorbs magic.)

The entire ‘Nightshade’ set is made from the skin of Remi Cain, an elder of the advanced-rank Bloodsucking Kind.

Even if the body dies, the cells remain alive ── resistant to fire and silver, and very tough.

As befits an escort protecting Count Cain’s beloved daughter, its performance far surpasses the older ‘Nightshade’.

It can even block some magic attacks.

He pulled out the spear stuck in his shoulder.

The falchion’s handle was in his mouth.

As the silver blade was freed in a sudden leap, Kian’s body rapidly healed.

The ‘Nightshade’ coat, having absorbed Kian’s blood, quickly repaired the torn parts.

Countless arrows snapped, falling down below him.

Kian jumped up, using the momentum to land on the invisible, mesh-like physical barrier above the camp.

Sarah had said it would bounce anyone who touched it, but the physical barrier seemed just like any other wall.

When Kian stood up from the barely 30-centimeter wide, transparent platform, the last Wing Cain was hit by a magic attack──electric shocks raining from every direction. It exploded into blackened bits and blasted away.

Either way, the moment they were ordered to drop to the ground, their fate was sealed.

The ‘Storm Herd’ magic soldiers never make control mistakes, and their firepower far surpassed that of any second-rate magician.

A mere Lower-rank Bloodsucking Kind wouldn’t escape back into the sky.

 Someone shouted, “Destroy the barrier!”

 ”You fool, stop it!”

The magician in luxurious armor──a Wolfman who seemed to be Barghest──shouted loudly.

”There’s still one more ally! If we take down the barrier, we can escape into the sky!”

Kian knelt and quickly used a ‘Wall’-type technique and healing magic to repair his wounds.

”Rebuild the barrier! The west and east watchtowers! Two of the 3 barriers have been broken! Hurry! Go, go, go! Crossbow soldiers, watch out for Wing Cain! We don’t know how many are left!”

 ”────”

Blood and sweat dripping down, Kian, who had been meditating on the transparent platform, suddenly opened his eyes wide.

The strong wind pushed against him, and he slowly raised the knees he had been kneeling on.

He stared up at the night sky and let out a long, shallow breath.

In front of Kian, a Wolfman in silver-glowing armor landed lightly on the transparent barrier.

”How long has it been since we fought a warrior monk, brother?”

 The voice was young.

He was likely one of the younger members in Barghest’s group, where most of the members were older.

 ”Since the skirmish with Shakerdoust.”

An enemy clad in a white fur light armor landed behind Kian.

His footgear glowed with orange magic script, leaving a blue light trail in the dark night sky like boots with wings soaring through the air.

 Both were armed with halberds.

Heavy weapons with axes at the spear tips.

They skillfully balanced on the narrow ledge, each raising their halberd into high and low positions.

 ”──My wounds have healed.”

 A third one.

Ten meters to Kian’s right side, another halberd warrior landed.

This warrior’s head was covered with a silver helmet.

A blue fur decoration extended from the helmet’s top, fluttering in the wind blowing above.

”They’re all master class. Watch out for their secret techniques.”

 ”Let’s go!” “Hehehehe”

 (There’s no escape.)

Kian clenched his teeth as he readied his falchion at his ear.

 (Can I take them down?)

 (I can do this.)

 ”────!!”

Kian was hearing an auditory hallucination.

His heartbeat slowed, and his mind started to calm.

’Glasses’ Kian touched his right cheek, then ‘glasses’less Kian brought his lips to his left ear.

He smiled wickedly and exhaled a breath.

 (We are the strongest.)

 (That’s right.)

 His fighting spirit surged.

Facing death, he felt the dark factor within awakening.
