Volume 3 Chapter 109 The Death Struggle In The Night Sky

 (We are the strongest.)

(You are me. Let’s fight together.)

”Yeah, that’s right. Let’s fight together. I’m not alone.”

 ”Hey, what’s that mumbling about?”

 ”This one’s crazy.”

Kian felt his mind go numb.

 The hard-earned training never lies.

He cleared his mind, becoming just a puppet to Azrael’s secret techniques.

Dark ‘Nightshade’ wings flutter like a cloak of wind, and his eyes turn blood-red.

Kian opened his mouth and exhaled a white breath with a sigh…

Sharp vampire-like fangs spilled from his lips.

* * *

The 3 figures disappeared all at once.

The harbinger warriors from 3 directions jumped onto see-through platforms, nearly simultaneously.

A quick horizontal slash from the front.

 An identical strike from behind.

The side harbards swung a big axe overhead, aiming to crush Kian’s head.

The two in front and back swung their axes to stop Kian from escaping, working perfectly together.

The wind was too strong for Mist Form to be useful.

Even if he could, cutting through fog with Tear’s weapon would be deadly.

Kian leapt at the moment, grabbing the harbard with his left hand.

He kept his left arm limp, as if he couldn’t use it at all.

Though the blood had stopped, bones were surely cracked and useless──except, thanks to Sarah’s magic power, Kian had already fully recovered with super regeneration like a vampire.

Kian felt his crushed left bones and torn flesh in complete numbness, then thrust his falchion from behind the helmeted man’s blind spot into his neck.

The man tilted his head to dodge, so Kian pulled his falchion back and aimed for his neck again.

The man who had dropped his harbard deftly sidestepped and leapt away.

The falling harbard was caught by the fur-clad man behind him, who kneeled slightly to aim for Kian’s thigh, rushing in to stab. Kian spread his legs to dodge that attack, then swung his falchion again at the armored man’s neck. If the armor guy blocked with his gauntlet, Kian would use the sword’s contact point as a fulcrum and leap into the air.

The armored man with silver armor was the slowest, reacting most tardily.

The hardest one is the man in the silver armor.

That one, I’ll mark as the last.

He swung his sword side to side, knocking away the spear of the fur-clad man charging in from behind.

The man in the helmet clicked his tongue, then jumped onto the shifting net-like barrier, leaping in a triangle to circle back around Kian’s side.

 ”UOH!”

The fur-clad man swung his halberd.

His movements were far too skilled for a weapon that heavy.

The axe he’d just deflected came back at him immediately. If he tried to dodge, the curved part of the axe would trap his sword and try to disarm him. He was unbelievably good.

The footing wasn’t visible to Kian, who wore glasses, but his steps had no hesitation, no mistakes.

The silver-armored man, behind the fur-clad one, vanished.

 He jumped.

There was no time to follow his movements.

Kian avoided the fur-clad man’s halberd by leaning back, then changed his stance mid-leap and parried the helmeted man’s halberd with his sword from the side.

 What an idiot──

It felt like the fur-clad man laughed.

The helmeted man twisted his wrist, locking the axe and shaft of his halberd together with a sharp snap. He yanked the halberd, sending Kian’s falchion flying from his hand.

 ”──────!?”

 ”Huh──”

From behind, the silver-armored man delivered a deadly blow.

A thrust aimed for his back.

Kian quickly shifted his body, tucking the halberd into his side to block.

Then──he swung his right arm, using the falchion that had been knocked away to slice through the helmeted man’s neck from behind.

 ”Huh──?” “Brother!”

The falchion, which had been knocked away, was tangled in invisible “threads” created by the warrior monk’s technique. When the helmeted man saw Kian unarmed, he had aimed for the finishing blow. Kian had exploited that brief opening.

The body of the helmeted man flew sideways, falling.

Kian felt the halberd, still tucked under his arm, pull, and his artery under the armpit was deeply gouged. But “Nightshade” stuck to him during the leap, regenerating as it absorbed blood from the torn wound. The blood stopped flowing, and Kian attacked the fur-clad man, controlling the “threads” as he struck.

 ”Huh… wha…?!”

The fur-clad man deftly danced in the air, twice knocking away Kian’s punch with his falchion, then striking Kian’s jaw with the handle of his halberd – the iron rod between his hands.

 Bone shattered, blood sprayed.

A sharp pain made Kian stagger, his balance crumbling.

 ”Aghhh!”

The silver-armored man behind him deeply gouged Kian’s side.

Before he could be cut down, Kian dropped on his own.

He used ‘threads’ to move to a distant point.

While swinging like a pendulum, the fur-clad man and the silver-armored man cast their magic.

One sent a gust of wind, the other unleashed purple lightning.

They were not just skilled halberd warriors, but also seemed to be exceptional magicians.

But their magic attacks didn’t penetrate Kian.

Kian opened his mouth wide and inhaled both attacks.

 ”────!?” “Damn you…!”

 The two men leaped.

Splitting apart, they tried to sandwich Kian again on the narrow walkway.

 (Not happening.)

Kian jumped towards the fur-clad man, reclaiming his falchion and striking at the man.

But the man, having foreseen this move with Future Sight, aimed for Kian’s landing and knocked him away.

As Kian retreated, a merciless triplet thrust, powered by the Tear Tackle, bore down on him.

 ”Guh…”

His sword was deflected, and a sideward swing of the stone knocked the side of his head.

The man struck Kian’s jaw again with the handle between his hands, then, while Kian was reeling, unleashed a deadly blow.

 (‘Threads’────!)

 ”You can’t outsmart me, idiot!”

Blades of wind emerged from both sides of the man, slicing through the ‘threads’ made of magic power.

Kian’s eyes distorted as he watched his falchion fall to the ground.

There was no time to draw his spare long sword.

Twisting to protect his head, his left shoulder was hacked and torn again, this time from chest to waist in a straight line. Several organs suffered critical damage, his vision darkening.

 But Kian’s spirit was unyielding.

Greedy for victory, he kept moving his body until the very last moment, until his heart stopped and his life ended.

 A halberd pierced his back.

Kian roared and, with a desperate grip, seized the halberd piercing his front and the one sticking out of his back. The vampire’s strength blazed like fire. Spitting up blood, Kian hoisted both weapons, along with the warriors they belonged to.

 ”Guh!” “You… you beast…!”

In a split-second decision, Kian let go of the halberds and took to the air.

The two warriors drew their falchions and lunged at Kian.

The fur-clad sword was faster, so he dodged that one, rolling away to avoid the silver-armored blade.

With no foothold, he fell, managing to grab onto an unseen passageway just in time.

The barrier wall seemed to have an edge as sharp as a blade.

The mesh-like barrier was like a sword with each passageway as a blade.

Kian skillfully twisted his body to dodge the counterattacks, then appeared behind the fur-clad man.

 ”GAAAAHHHH!”

He was no longer anything but a monster.
