Volume 14 Chapter 32 Disconnection

*Kent’s Perspective
The plan to invade the another world gate was launched, with Rootless Weed (Deracine), King’s Sword, and Silver Wolf leading the charge. They were steadily approaching the Abyss Gate, their destination, pushing back the weakened ‘another world monsters’ caused by Dee’s aerial bombardment.
The 3 Hunting Groups, rivals with the top rankings in the Southern Region monster hunts, were supported from behind by the top-tier support groups Black Bullet and Hand of Glory. Because of this, their march was very fast. The Margrave South District army was keeping up, but the less experienced True Demon Kingdom forces and Black Dragon Dukedom troops had fallen slightly behind.
…The gap in skill is showing… Even though my father-in-law commands, their limited real combat experience in the Kingdom army is understandable… Still, I have a bad feeling about this distance. We should slow down a little…
I sensed a dangerous thought crossing my mind as I realized the distance from General Shifa was growing. But if we slowed now, we’d give the enemy time to prepare defenses. I hesitated to pull the reins on the front group.
”General, if we split off the rearguard and go support the Monster Hunters ourselves, we’ll be crushed before reaching the Abyss Gate.”
Garvey, who’d been marching alongside and observing the battle, suggested providing support to the Monster Hunters. Milly and the Crimson Bride were already assisting, and it was time to commit the army to further increase the offensive speed.
”Alright! The Margrave South District army, we attack the Abyss Gate together! Ane’s Cavalry will flank the enemy. Charlotte and Garvey, lead your troops and support the Monster Hunters individually. Kondrad, secure the communication line with His Majesty Shifa. I’ll be on the front lines too!”
”Understood! I’ll send out the messengers immediately. You lot, it’s work time! Let’s make some serious money!”
””””OOOOH!””””
The Red Valkyrie and Astral Valkyrie members were also sent to the front lines, and they decided to use all available forces to destroy the ‘another world monsters’ near the Abyss Gate. The enemy’s defensive line, barely holding, crumbled with the army’s involvement, and the stagnant front line advanced rapidly, revealing the bizarre sight of the Abyss Gate in the distance.
”So, we’ve finally reached our destination.”
Due to the increased invasion speed through the aggressive offensive, the ‘another world monsters’ were caught off guard and were being defeated one after another, but the army had also suffered a considerable number of casualties to get here.
”Sir Kent, we’ve received a message from the Monster Hunters in the vanguard: ‘Enemy mechanical creature factory discovered.’ Some of the Monster Hunters are already moving to destroy it.”
”I see. Send another message to thoroughly destroy the factory, and order the army to assist if they need more firepower.”
”Yes, sir!”
As the first messenger sprinted away, another approached from behind, his face pale with urgency.
”Sir Kent! It’s terrible! The communication line with Rearguard and His Majesty Shifa has been severed by ‘another world monsters’!”
”What?! Where did these enemies come from? We’ve taken out all but the smallest groups during our advance!”
”Yes, sir. But it seems they were hiding underground. As we marched forward, they emerged from beneath the earth and targeted the isolated Rearguard. Sir Kondrad noticed when he saw the army’s flag in disarray.”
”What?! They were underground?! How many enemies are there?”
”Medium-sized, five thousand… No large ones have been spotted.”
Kent’s mind reeled at the report. The Rearguard consisted only of the less-trained Kingdom and Black Dragon Dukedom forces—numerous but unlikely to hold off five thousand medium-sized monsters.
”We need to send reinforcements immediately!”
As Kent prepared to issue the order, the messenger officer bellowed loudly.
”Sir Kent! General Shifa’s signal arrow instructed us to ‘advance.’ Sending reinforcements now would halt our offensive and go against His Majesty’s will! Besides, Sir Arbalest is with them—they won’t fall so easily. Our priority should be capturing the enemy’s stronghold!”
The messenger, a familiar face who served as Vice-Captain under Kondrad, was usually mild-mannered. His uncharacteristic shout drove home the gravity of the situation.
”…Are you sure about the signal arrow?”
”Yes, both Sir Kondrad and I confirmed it. It was unmistakably the advance instruction.”
”Understood. Dismissed.”
I forced the messenger Officer to back down and turned my gaze to the rear where the Shifa army is suspected to be, now that some distance has opened up. Already, quite a gap has formed, and their figures are out of sight, but I decided to send my gratitude for Shifa’s decision.
