Volume 4 Chapter 59-2 The Fairy Sailor

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I tried turning the helm, changing the direction of the wind, observing the hull. Continuing the trial and error.

 That’s when it was.

 ”What are you doing?”

The door to the captain’s cabin opened, and Yomi poked her head out.

Apparently, she had been reading books inside all this time, clutching a thick tome in her arms.

”I was looking into how to sail the ship.”

As I answered, Yomi blinked as if she suddenly remembered something.

”Hm? Well, maybe this could be useful then.”

She said, showing me a book.

The cover was inscribed with ancient script, completely unreadable to me.

”Hmph, summoning a Brownie, is it?”

Rozmiaque peered in from behind, muttering softly. It seems he could read it.

 ”Brownie?”

”Mainly, it’s a general term for fairies that help with work and chores.”

 He answered my question.

”Yeah. This book seems to have the summoning ritual for a Sailor Brownie written in it.”

Yomi added cheerfully. She seems to have already grasped the content of the book.

Still, a Sailor, huh? It’s magic specifically for operating a ship.

”But a summoning ritual. Is it different from the hero summoning of our time?”

Yomi shook her head with a wry smile as I voiced my sudden doubt.

”They just sound similar. Hero summoning brings a real person from another world. In contrast, fairy summoning creates magical life.”

 ”I see.”

As long as it’s not about abducting fairies from some fairyland, I can rest easy.

It’s reassuring that we’re not forcing someone to come and using them.

 Then another concern arises.

The previous owner of the ship, the Skeleton Captain, must have used this book to summon his crew.

”So, were the skeletons on this ship Brownies?”

When we first stepped onto this ship, skeleton pirates were running amok inside.

They don’t exactly fit the image of ‘fairies that help with chores.’ Using those eerie bones as minions?

”Normally fairies, but if the summoner is undead, the appearance of what comes out might mutate.”

 Rozmiaque added.

So, since the magician was a skeleton, the fairy they summoned ended up a skeleton too.

”Then, using Yomi should be fine, right?”

When I said that, Yomi puffed up her chest and laughed.

 ”Yeah, leave it to me!”

She opened the book with determination and began to chant the spell.

As she raised her hand, a faint light appeared before her, forming a magic circle with geometric patterns and ancient script.

A dazzling light illuminated the surroundings.

As the light gradually subsided, a single figure stood there.

About 50 centimeters tall, with a round body, 3 heads high, wearing a white sailor cap and a sailor suit.

It looked like it had popped out of a children’s picture book, an adorable little figure.

 ”Is this Brownie?”

As I muttered, the little sailor stood up straight, placed its short arms on its head, and offered a cute salute-like gesture.

The movement was clumsy, but it seemed to show wholehearted loyalty, which was endearing.

Seeing this, Tifi next to me broke into a grin.

 ”So cute.”

 ”Yeah, looks like a success.”

Yomi showed a smile as well.

”Alright, Brownie. Can you handle the sailing?”

When I called out to it, the sailor-suited Brownie looked around, then tilted its little head in confusion.

It started to flap its hands, as if trying to communicate something. It seems it can’t speak.

 ”…Yeah… yeah… that’s right… I understand.”

Lifia seems to be able to communicate with the fairy, probably through Spirit Magic.

”To move this ship, we need at least 5, preferably around ten companions.”

Well, that makes sense. A tiny fairy smaller than a human couldn’t move this big ship by itself. It’s impressive that 5 can do it.

”Then Yomi, I’m counting on you. The mana…”

 ”No problem!”

Yomi, full of confidence, began to chant another spell. She’s a hero too, and seems to have plenty of mana.

A magic circle appeared at her feet, larger than before.

The faint light illuminated the space again, and one by one, columns of light emerged from the center, revealing 9 more Brownies in turn.

Each of them had slight differences in their hat shapes or clothing colors, but they all wore sailor uniforms, their small bodies bouncing energetically as they stood up. Then, they lined up and, in perfect unison, snapped a salute.

 ”Wow, they’re so reliable.”

I couldn’t help but murmur, and the Brownies’ faces lit up instantly. They jumped up and down, waving their hands excitedly. Every tiny movement was adorably charming, and I couldn’t help but smile.

 ”Hehe, they’re such good kids.”

 ”Yeah, so cute…”

Lifia and Tifi’s faces also naturally broke into smiles.

 We’d gained such adorable companions.

With them, we’d surely be able to move the ship. And dungeon exploration would become much easier.

I wondered what kind of role this new force would play.

My heart was filled with anticipation.

 Fairy A: “Move the ship?”

Fairy B: “We’ll demand sweets as payment!”
