Volume 14 Chapter 34 The Fighting General Arbalest – Part II

With a careless blow to Eclair’s solar plexus using the hilt of my sword, she gasped, then fainted, leaning against me. I then passed the unconscious Eclair to His Majesty, who had arrived on horseback.
”Your Majesty… From now on, I depart on my final journey. I leave Eclair in your care, you hear?”
”Wait! What are you thinking? The enemy is a Beast Monster! You can’t possibly win alone, Arbalest!”
”Your Majesty… Don’t underestimate this old man, you hear? I was once called the Battle General Arbalest. I can handle a Beast Monster with ease! Now, you must escape quickly!”
I shoved Eclair toward His Majesty, then struck the horse’s rear with my sword sheath, sending it into a gallop as His Majesty rode away.
”Arbalest!!!”
His Majesty, holding Eclair on the fleeing horse, looked back. Tears seemed to glisten in their eyes.
His Majesty… I leave the rest to you. I only pray I don’t get beaten to death by Eclair when she wakes up.
After seeing His Majesty and Eclair off, Julius and Quenelra rode up on their horses as well. I showed the two loyal retainers the treasure I had been hiding, then removed all of my nearly ruined Armor.
”O-Old man! Are you insane?! That’s the new magic bomb’s explosive from the Sky Troops! And you even brought the detonator! You’ve lost your mind!”
Quenelra’s face turned pale after seeing the contents. Wrapped around my stomach was the explosive container used in the new magic bombs Kent made, and I had successfully swiped the detonator using my former Lord authority.
”Aah, if this thing blows up now, it’ll be a disaster… Huh! That’s why I gave the evacuation order! Is General Arbalest trying to die or what!?”
”If not, we can’t stop him. We can’t leave a Beast Monster behind Kent.”
The two of them, faces pale, kept glancing at the explosive device wrapped around their bellies. Of course, I can’t let them die, so I’ve decided to leave the aftermath to them and have them survive.
”Quenelra, Julius. Take care of Your Majesty, the country, and Eclair. This is my last selfish request. You’re my subordinates, so just do as I say!”
”Old man… I’m sorry. I can’t die in your place… Even if you say I’m heartless, I want to live and go back to my wife. So, thanks. When my wife has a son, I’ll name him after you. That’s my farewell gift to you. Alright, see ya, old man.”
”Ah! Lord Quenelra! G-General Arbalest… I-I’m sorry!”
”Don’t mind me. You two just live well.”
After the farewell and entrusting the aftermath to the two of them, they ran off at full speed, scolding the nearby soldiers, leaving this area without looking back. I, who saw them off, grabbed a soldier who had been left behind, and decided to face the Beast Monster, which was devouring soldiers, with a sword in hand.
GRAAAH.
The giant ape opened its bloodstained mouth wide and charged toward me, knocking down soldiers at an unbelievable speed. I gathered all my remaining strength to unleash a Sword Flash, but the giant ape was covered in thick fur, and it seemed like the attack didn’t do any damage even when it hit its body.
As expected, a Beast Monster. I must be thankful that my final enemy in life is humanity’s greatest enemy, the Beast Monster.
Suddenly, the fighting instinct deep inside me was ignited, and I felt a sense of joy from encountering such a strong opponent, a smile unconsciously spreading across my face.
”Hey, monkey. Come at me. I’ll show you the greatness of humanity!”
Raising his hand above, he flicked his fingers, taunting the great ape. In response, the beast seemed to be angry, as it began to charge a beam of light in its mouth. Just as the mouth flashed brightly, a surge of heat rushed past me, and my left side’s 4 arms were cleanly vaporized. It happened in an instant, and the wound was cauterized, so the pain wasn’t as overwhelming as you’d expect.
”Damn it! That monkey took my arms… Fucking ape!”
Gripping the last remaining beloved sword in my right hand, the great ape in front of me had already picked up another lagging soldier and started to crunch down on them. This beast truly sees humans as mere prey.
After finishing off the soldier, the great ape spat out the remaining metal armor from its mouth, then leaped towards me with a mighty bound.
GORAAAAHHHH!
Provoking me further, it let out a resonating roar right in front of me. As I swung my sword at the approaching face, it was deflected by the tough fur and hide, sending the sword flying from my grasp. The beast watched this and then sneered, lifting its lips in a grin.
”Hmph! My bare hands are more than enough for you, monkey!”
I lunged at it with my remaining 4 right arms, but the force was far from enough to damage the great ape; instead, it ended up capturing my hands.
”Guh… I underestimated it…”
Seemingly intent on using me as a toy, the beast didn’t immediately try to bite but instead grabbed one of the arms growing from my back and started to yank it out with brute force.
”Gaaaaaah! This fucking monkey aaaah!!”
The pain from having my arm pulled out made me feel faint, but I calculated that as long as this ape was toying with me, it would buy enough time for His/Her Majesty and the soldiers to escape to safety. The ape, who had yanked out my arm, opened its mouth wide as if laughing and smirked. But this beast won’t be laughing for long.
Having resolved myself to face death, I fill my body with a magical power I seldom use, then I clench the detonator tube in my teeth. Meanwhile, he enjoys his superiority by pulling out my arms one by one, playing with me. After he’s had his fun, he seems to have grown bored, and opens his mouth wide, ready to chomp down on me.
”Eclair… live well…”
In my dazed consciousness, I bite down on the tube before the giant ape can get to me. The white mist-like substance leaking from the tube reacts to my magic, transforming into pure magical energy in a chain reaction. When that energy reaches the explosives wrapped around my body, my consciousness cuts off.
