We raise both hands, waving them grandly towards the audience.
In response, words of gratitude come back to us from the fans.
’Best buddy, thanks for bringing us here! Someday when we’re all older, let’s reminisce about today. About this wonderful day we had!!’
Ah, that’s right!!
As we link arms and sway to the melody, the fans in the audience do the same.
It was a moment when the heat of the venue and our own heat became one.
”Hey, you guys haven’t heard about this surprise yet, have you?!”
I show a surprised smile, and Toa, Shintaro, and Tenga-senpai give each other a high-five.
They all have looks of accomplishment, but you weren’t the only ones who prepared a surprise, you know.
”Moja-san, can I ask you something?”
I call out to the stagehand.
The audience erupts in excitement again at the sight.
”Toa, you said you’d show me a cool me a moment ago, right?”
The volume of the fans’ voices from the audience rises an octave.
They’ve worked so hard, so I have to live up to their expectations.
I step to the center of the stage and sit down on the piano stool that rises up from below.
”This song is for my companions who’ve stuck with me, and for all our fans”
I play a nostalgic piano intro with an incredibly gentle touch.
’It’s only been a little over a year since we met everyone, but it feels like so much time has passed since that day. It’s like a delusion, we’ve been running through intense days together’
I’ve become a bit sentimental from everyone’s singing, so I put on a gentle smile to hide my tearful eyes.
’I really have something I want to tell everyone, but it’s a bit embarrassing, so I’ll tell you next time we meet instead. That way, I feel like these days will last forever’
Hey, Shintaro, it’s too early to be tearing up!’
Huh? Tenga-senpai’s already crying his eyes out!?
Senpai… that’s way too soon, don’t you think?
’I’ll always remember today’s view, today’s memories, this path we walked together, and the time we spent as 4. But just as everything has a beginning, it’s said that everything ends someday. There’s no such thing as eternity in this world. Someone once said that.’
My song echoes through the venue, enveloped in a roar of screams.
’Is that really true? I think an endless eternity wouldn’t be so bad. If someone gets tired of running, I’ll be there to pull them along. I’ll push them forward, and if that’s not enough, I’ll carry them on my back and keep going.’
As if the screams from earlier were a lie, the mood shifts to a thunderous cheer.
’It’s been a little over a year since we met, and I never imagined a future like this. So I won’t tell them yet. Because it’s too soon to be honest, right? After all, we’re starting over from here.’
I stand up from the piano bench, grab the mic, and walk over to Shintaro.
From here, it’s a little improvised. I change the lyrics I prepared and sing the earlier song back to the 3 of them.
’Shintaro. You’ve got guts. And don’t thank me if we’re friends. We’re best friends, aren’t we?’
After a high-five with Shintaro, I step away and approach Toa.
’Toa. You’re incredibly brave. I just opened the door for you. The one who stepped out was no one else but you.’
After a high-five with Toa, I move toward Tenga-senpai.
’Tenga-senpai. My always-cool senior. If possible, stay just the way you are. But I’ll remember being pushed off the bed for a while longer.’
I share a light hug with Tenga-senpai, who chuckles bitterly, then step toward the audience.
’We are family. That’s why this place is a home. Even when the sun sets and stars appear in the moonless night sky, hidden behind clouds, I will keep the lights shining in this house. So everyone, aim for this light, come home to us, your family. The road you walk on leads right back here.’
Fans who understood that the lyrics could be a declaration of eternal BERYL reacted in many ways.
Some cried, some shouted out loud, others froze in place.
But within a few seconds, everyone showed bright smiles again.
’It’s only been a little over a year since I met all of you. Yes, we’re still just beginning. So I won’t tell you the most important thing yet. I’ll share my gratitude next time we meet. If I do, it feels like this forever will last forever. So, let’s meet again. SEE YOU AGAIN!’
When I finished singing, big applause came from the audience, the staff in the wings, and even Toa, Shintaro, and Tenga-senpai.
”That was pretty intense.”
”It’s Aqua’s fault! Make the next song more upbeat!”
I smirk at Toa’s quick teasing.
Laughter escapes from the fans sitting in the audience.
”Alright, let’s finish with a bright song.”
”Yeah, that’s a good idea!!”
”Yep!”
Even with some surprises, this was our final song.
We decided to sing “Shikiori (Season by Season)” together with the fans, really ending on a high note.
I think live performances are great because they can adapt flexibly day by day.
”Everyone, you were amazing today!”
Backstage, we exchange high-fives with Ako-san.
Of course, the other staff members also praised each other for the success over these 3 days.
”Alright, everyone, let’s all come back to this house again next month!!”

On day one, I gave the closing speech; on day 2, Tenga-senpai did it, and for the final third day, Ako-san delivered the closing perfectly.
When I open my phone on the train home, I see the twin photos Kanon sent me and I smirk.
While looking at those photos, I take a short nap.
Thank you Nagano Prefecture, I’ll come back again!!
