Volume 3 Chapter 20 Encounter
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The forest is noisy this morning. Spirit clan’s leader, Fedelate, suddenly felt this way. Could it be that a demon has invaded?
The spirit clan has already been chased from the central continent to these borders by both demons and elves for nearly a thousand years. The battle situation is stagnant… rather, they have no reason to further push us, and if they try, we will fight back desperately. The enemy must also be prepared for considerable sacrifice. Perhaps there is even a bold soul who might consider the current border line as an established fact and maintain it as a national border. So, for now, if we don’t attack, there shouldn’t be any trouble-nano…
”Chief, I have to report. We captured a suspicious creature in the forest!”
A report came from a soldier of the Defense Force.
”Not an enemy or a suspicious person, but a suspicious creature? A new type of beast or something?”
”No. Its appearance is closest to an elf, but it has thin body hair, pale white skin with a reddish tint, high body temperature, and small ears. And we can communicate with it.”
”Hm. Not a beastfolk either. Consult the scholars once. Well, if it’s edible, I allow it to be used as food.”
”Yes!”
Some time later, as the sun climbed high, after Fedelate finished his lunch and was resting, the oldest member of the spirit clan came and told him about the creature from earlier.
”Tribal Chief, the creature we captured in the forest earlier is a ‘human.’”
”Human? I’ve heard of them. They’re said to teleport from another world, rarely appearing in the central continent. But in this remote area, I’ve never seen or heard of one… Did they wander in by mistake?”
”I’m not sure, but… They can’t speak verbally, but we can communicate telepathically. I’ve had a brief conversation, and their intelligence might be higher than some Beastfolk or demons. What should we do? Expel them or dispose of them? They’re rare around here, but I don’t think it’s worth keeping just one.”
”Hmm. If they’re harmless, expulsion will do… But I’m curious. Let me take a look.”
”Understood. I’ll prepare a safe viewing spot for you, Tribal Chief.”
Soon, Fedelate was informed and went to the backyard. A canopy, table, and chairs were set up, and Fedelate sat down. Shortly after, a soldier brought a human into the backyard.
Fedelate, curious to see what strange creature would appear, widened his eyes.
The human, wearing a chain around their neck and hands bound behind their back, was led by the soldier. They were n*ked, seemingly female, with striking long golden hair and eyes of almost transparent blue. Their body had no fur, and not just their arms and legs but also their chest and hips… their entire body was composed of beautiful, rounded curves. Their pale, reddish skin seemed to glow transparently in the sunlight.
”…Beautiful,” Fedelate blurted out. Even in the spirit clan, there are genders, but unlike Elves or demons, there are no sexual relationships. Marriage and even the concept of romance are vague. But this… what kind of emotion is this? Fedelate was confused by their own feelings.
”Bring them closer.” “Yes!” The soldier pulled the human to about ten meters in front of Fedelate.
”Bring it a little closer.”
”But chief, if you get too close, it might be dangerous.”
”I do not care. Bring it closer.”
Looking closely shows it resembles an elf except for small ears. Its skin looks healthy and smooth. When Fedelate looked at its face, it glared sharply. Fedelate, interested, tried to start a conversation.
[Don’t be so cautious. I won’t do anything if you don’t cause trouble. You’re a human, right? What’s your name? Why did you come here?]
Fedelate’s mental message receives responses spoken aloud, but those familiar with telepathy can read the thoughts directly.
”My name is Sofia. Even if you ask why I came, I realized I was in this world without warning. I don’t know how I got here or how to go back.”
[I see. I know humans sometimes wander into this world, but I don’t know the cause or the solution.]
”You said humans… but you are human too, right?”
[Oh, so it looks that way to you. Well, never mind.]
”? ? ? “
[So, Sofia, I don’t plan to have a long back-and-forth with you. State your wish. Will you be banished into the forest or dealt with as an Intruder?]
”Is there no option to survive? I can’t feel like I could live in the forest with just me.”
[Haha, you want to live? In that case, you’ll have to serve us as a slave. Is that acceptable?]
”…I don’t mind.”
Fedelate moved Sofia to a livestock shed and ordered soldiers to have her work as a slave.
Yet, somewhere in his heart, he felt a little relief.
He thought,
That beautiful creature can stay close.
But at that moment, Fedelate did not know
that meeting Sofia that day would lead to a future yearning for a gate to the human world.
And that was over 5 hundred years before Yuuta and Akari were transported to another world.
