Volume 3 Chapter 117-3 Jibril’s Shadow

Sarah stood up and rushed to Serena’s side. Serena clenched her jaw and nodded faintly. Feeling sympathetic to her condition—her body so cold she couldn’t speak properly—Kian briefly explained what had happened.
”Attacked by a Shin warrior monk?”
”Yes. They took a lot of my tail fur and blood, then left me in a cabin.”
”That’s why your tail looks so sparse now-nya.”
”How dare they…!”
Sarah pulled Serena closer to the fire, made Rean get up from his chair, and seated Serena there instead.
Rean stood without a word and sat on a rock a little away from the fire.
”I’ll give you a blood potion. It’ll sting a bit.”
”Hm. ──Nyaaaaaah!?”
Serena screamed as Sarah’s gorilla-like strength injected the potion roughly, making her fur stand on end. Nearby, Ninini watched with a pitying look, saying, “That looks painful-nya…”
”Now that everyone’s here, we should go help Vest.”
Rean, who had been drinking his potion in the dark, said this out of the blue.
Typical of him, but with Serena so weakened, leaving immediately seemed difficult.
”Everyone’s tired. Let’s set off at noon today.”
”Until then, I’ll hunt in the swamp. Reducing the number of Bloodsucking Kinds will make exploration smoother.”
”Mr. Rean, you’ll wait. Please don’t do anything reckless.”
”Ms. Sarah, you’ve seen my strength. I get tougher with every enemy I kill. I can ensure the path’s safety—it’s a win-win. Not letting me go to the swamp is foolish.”
”You!”
”S-stop fighting-nya…”
”Sorry, everyone. I’m fine, so go to the ancient temple. I’ll… just wait here because I’m a burden.”
”No. It’s too dangerous here.”
Kian spoke for the first time, having listened silently until then.
”Storm Herd might come for revenge anytime. Yelmar and the others’ movements are uncertain. The Shin warrior monk can easily follow our horse tracks. Staying here alone is definitely a bad idea.”
”I agree with Kian. Ms. Serena should come too. Wolfmen have a better sense of smell than cat-beastmen. It’ll be a tough march, but Ms. Serena, please endure it.”
”If my help is needed, I’ll gladly go with you. Thanks to Ms. Sarah’s shot, I feel a little better.”
”Are you really okay?”
Sarah looked worried as she peered in, but since Serena insisted she was fine, she seemed to agree to leave the camp immediately. Kian, too, felt the Shin warriors’ presence was unsettling, so starting their move quickly was best.
Ninini looked at Kian and spoke.
”Aren’t you going to look for the teleportation gate anymore-nya?”
”We searched for two days and found many fast-flowing Spiritual Veins, but no sign of the wedges that slow the flow. Barghest must have removed all the wedges. I don’t think we’ll find wedges or teleportation gates on the third day either.”
Sarah nodded at Kian’s answer.
”Even if we find a teleportation facility, we’d need to set wedges one by one. It’s better for everyone to cross the forest instead.”
”Hmm… Or, if Mr. Rean has recovered, maybe crossing the forest is best?”
Serena’s words excited Rean and Ninini.
”I won’t return to Izerland until I find Vest. If you want to go back, do it on your own.”
”Me too-nya. If I can help save Vest, I’ll go-nya.”
Rean looked at Kian and continued.
”If the reward decreases, I’ll pay the difference. I can’t do anything about reduced Guild points, but I’ll compensate with money as much as possible. If something happens to me and Ninini, you can’t withdraw it, so if you wish, I’ll write a power of attorney.”
”Lyr’s waiting on the other side, so ask Lyr to pay the difference-nya. ‘Lion’s Companion’ will cover it from their account-nya.”
”What should we do, Kian?”
”Do I need to ask you?”
”Yes, because you’re the leader of this party.”
Kian shrugged.
”If I say we’re returning through the Great Forest, Rean and the others will try to leave by force.”
Rean has recovered to the point of being unrecognizable from when he was helped. Holding him back and crossing the forest is impossible.
He’ll undoubtedly run off on his own to explore the ancient temple again today.
Kian looked around at everyone and spoke.
”Once the sun rises and the swamp temperature starts to rise, we’ll head to the ancient temple together. Until then, eat breakfast or take a nap to prepare. Is there anyone who objects?”
”No one-nya. Probably.”
”Serena, are you okay?”
”Mm. I am fine.”
”Then it’s decided. Sarah, can you remove the barrier?”
”Understood.”
”I’ll make the food. Ms. Ninini, can you help?”
”Of course-nya. I love chopping up ingredients-nya.”
”Then I’ll go hunting in the swamp.”
”That’s not allowed──” Sarah put her hands on her hips and got angry, but Kian nodded.
”Understood. But promise not to go deep into the swamp, not to go to the ancient temple on your own, and not to take a horse.”
He’s the type who won’t listen even if you say no. In that case, it’s safer to acknowledge it first and impose restrictions later.
Rean nodded and left the camp.
Sarah came close and said, “What a selfish person,” after his back disappeared from view.
”If you don’t like him, should I write ‘idiot’ on his backpack?”
”I’m not a kid, so I won’t do such things.”
”I’m glad you’ve become an adult. ──By the way, about the Shin people I met,”
Kian took out graphite from his pocket, picked up two suitable wooden pieces for firewood, and drew caricatures of the two Shin people.
He finished quickly in about five minutes because he had meal preparations.
”I don’t know the man. But I know the woman.”
”Who is she?”
When Kian asked, Sarah widened her eyes and said, “That’s not true, Kian.”
”Ms. Linca.”
”Linca? Linca, the girl from Jibril’s party?”
”Yes. She’s a girl with strong Shin blood.”
Sarah nodded.
Linca appeared in Sarah’s memory world too. She was Jibril’s favorite girl. But Jibril mainly liked Linca’s abilities, not her as a person.
Linca respected Jibril, who grew up with her. She had a slight love for him. Jibril used her feelings to his advantage sometimes. Linca knew she was being used but followed Jibril like a young bird following a mother bird.
When Kian was with Azrael, Jibril liked Sarah. So, Linca seemed to dislike Sarah. He thought Linca was talented, but he didn’t care much about her as a person.
”Then, is Jibril her master?”
”That’s probably right. But why did he send Ms. Linca to the northern edge? She’s not a low-ranked warrior monk sent just to collect Serena’s hair and blood.”
”Ah, so Linca really is strong.”
”Because of compatibility issues, Kian now can’t do anything.”
Sarah continued with a stern expression.
”Ms. Linca is one of the highest-ranking warrior monks known as ‘Remnant Shadow.’ I’ll skip the detailed explanation, but she can ignore all attacks and defenses to strike through.”
”What is that?”
”She is also a skilled Head Magician in poisons and insects. You should definitely avoid fighting her.”
