Volume 14 Chapter 48 Research District Drawing

*Kent’s Perspective
I was nearly attacked by a corpse with an enlarged head, but somehow managed to defeat it without being bitten. It seems the Fairy race left in this central control room have been fused by impostors, turning them into ‘another world monsters’ just like before.
”There are no survivors here. These capsule pods are like tombstones. Either they’re inside, dead and turned to skeletons, or they’ve been transformed into deformed creatures.”
Milly, who helped me up, observes the surrounding capsule pods and voices her thoughts. There are tens of thousands of pods in this central control room, but none seem to hold survivors. Though time flows differently here due to the alternate space, decades have likely passed, and the impostors (fake fairy) who invaded appear to have destroyed everything in their wake.
”Looks that way. I also judge there are no survivors.”
After being attacked by the monster in the capsule, I abandoned the time-consuming search for survivors. Instead, I prioritized heading to the central part of the control room to rescue Iska and seal this alternate space.
”Let’s gather everyone, search for Iska while moving toward the central area, and seal this place as soon as we find the sealing device. We can’t afford to ignore the risk of ending up like those in the capsules if we’re not careful. I don’t want such a result after paying such a huge sacrifice to get here.”
Embracing the loss of many lives it took to reach this central control room, I decided to stop the search and press forward.
”Understood. I’ll gather everyone.”
Milly activated the communication crystal at her waist to contact each search team.
”Kent here. Search is called off. Everyone, gather at the passage leading to the central area! We judge no survivors and will focus on rescuing Iska and finding the sealing device.”
Milly, speaking into the communication crystal, seemed acutely aware of the time. The Monster Hunters holding off the ‘another world monsters’ outside were exhausted from continuous battles, and casualties were mounting. I shared her concern—we couldn’t afford to waste time.
”Contact confirmed. Kent, let’s head to the central passage.”
As Milly, Lina, and Valentina began walking toward the central passage, I followed. Once we entered, members who’d been searching the Warehouse joined us one by one. With everyone gathered, we moved toward the central area.
After walking through the central passage for a while, several tattered partition doors came into view. The doors, shredded like paper, were tens of centimeters thick and should have required immense strength to break.
”Looks like Iska tore these apart. Even so, these doors are thick.”
”This seems to be the central section. There are significant words written on the doors. Be careful—anything could come out.”
Lina gripped her staff tightly and urged caution. Tension spread among us, including me.
”Do Lina or Valentina know what’s in the central section?”
In response, Valentina traced the characters on a stone plate she’d found during the search. An image emerged from the plate.
”This seems to be a Magic Tool recording an overview of this facility. Based on what I’ve deciphered, the central section appears to be a research area. I couldn’t decode what kind of research was conducted, though.”
The image displayed a panoramic view of the central control room, with a large research facility-like section visible at the back of the Warehouse area’s central passage.
”I see. There were no locking mechanisms in the Warehouse section, so both the sealing device and Iska might be in that research area. Alright, we’re short on time—let’s hurry.”
””””Yes.””””
I increased my pace toward the research area, moving forward without letting my guard down. After passing dozens of broken barrier doors, I reached an open space.
”Is this the final research area?”
Several large, shattered containers lay scattered like broken glass, alongside dull silver devices and instruments resembling the ‘another world monsters’ manufacturing facilities outside. However, the interior showed signs of fierce combat, and some functions appeared to have been stopped.
Inside the halted research area, only faint light from emergency magic tools illuminated the space, leaving it quite dark.
In the depths of the dimly lit interior, the faint figure of a person crouching could be seen.
